So you didn't bother watching the games?
McCown was above average by every measure and wasn't the main issue with this team.
We are rebuilding as you said, and have a ton of roster holes to address as well as finding a long term QB.

Now we will be retaining the same coaches and systems to continue building this offseason.
If they don't improve upon this season, there could still be firings after next year.

Sure, but let's be honest. Macc just gutted the entire team. Everyone thought that the Jets were intentionally tanking this year. Somehow Bowles got 5 wins out of the group. As crazy as it is to say, if McCown wasn't the QB, this team would have probably won 1 or 2 games max with Petty/Hack. Step one of a rebuild is to clean house. Macc did that. Bowles got 5 wins out of a crap team. Sure, it would have been better to get a top 3 pick, but it is what it is. Macc now has his chance to actually rebuild. Bowles gets a shot to make the playoffs with a team that will hopefully be much stronger next year.

I don't think even Belicheat would have gotten more than 6 or so wins out of this Jets roster.

And that’s why they should both be fired.

That’s a massive assumption. It’s gonna be the same story of giving us “the best chance to win.”

It’s a broken record that hasn’t done shit for us. McCown will never take this team to the playoffs.

This team is gonna be focused on getting better inch by inch. Rather than making power moves like the Rams.

We could never pull a turn around like that. Wanna know why? Cause this team is fucking stupid. Too afraid to take offensive playmakers early.

Starting McCown next year and bringing these goons back screams mediocracy.

Buckle up everyone. 7-9 or 8-8 here we come. Hey, at least we are getting better.

Hope everyone is ready to play the AFC South and the NFC North next year with McCown at the helm.

Great. And any hope of Christopher Johnson being someone who could come in and give this franchise what it needs, which would be competent ownership, has now been dashed. Can't wait to see us punt late in the fourth quarter next year instead of actually trying to win the game.

I'm fine with Mac's extension, but Bowles' extension is just a terrible move by ownership. So the players play hard for him. Any coach worth half his worth can get his players to do that. A higher standard should be applied to the HC of an NFL team, a job of which there are only 32.

Agreed Kurt. Can let the brainless followers such as 101 blow this team as much as humanly and praise their shitty 3 year record and mediocre draft picks. This isn’t even a commitment to mediocrity but far worse. These wo clowns have 0 business getting a 4th year. You don’t reward a losing record, 10-22 in the past 2 years, and no playoffs in 3 years. That’s what exactly what this extension does. Any one know the guy who flew the Idzik plane? He better get his plane warmed up...

In other words, 2018 is make or break time. It's shit or get off the pot time. Mac and Toilet you must perform the following to avoid being shitcanned:

Mac - find a franchise QB. You've got one more chance. You must also build the fucking OL. The offense must start to show signs of life. If the future is not looking bright for the NYJ at the end of 2018, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!

Toilet - you're a complete clusterfuck. We're really only keeping you around because we may want to hire Morton as your replacement.

Playoffs in 2018 or you both get shitcanned.

I do give ownership credit here for extending them until 2020 as opposed to the one year gold watch they gave to Rex. At the very least McCagnan has some time to continue with the rebuild as oppposed to the short term fix to save his job.

This move also tells me that Bowles and McCagnan are 100% tied to each other. Woody obviously learned from his Rex & Idzik mistake.

Unfortuanately, if I was a betting man the Jets will be cleaning house sometime in 2018 or 2019.

I think he can keep the plane grounded. There's only a small group of butt hurt Jets fans that don't realize this was the correct move. I don't think they can get enough money together to piss it away on a banner.

Say hello to another year of Josh McCown as your QB. And trust me, he won't play anywhere near as well as he did in 2017. This has Fitz 2016 written all over it.

You just don't get it do you? McCown over-performed this season and it led to wins that only cost the Jets a shot a future FQB. I couldn't care less how well he played this season. He WAS the issue because he should not have been on the field at all! The Jets should have been picking 2nd this year and we would all be salivating over Rosen as future QB. Instead, we got to watch an old man have a career season and lead the team to 5 meaningless wins. Joy of joys! What a season! The team that was supposed to stink didn't stink as bad as expected!!! Wow! McCown has not played for 8 teams because he is good or even average. He had a career year at 38 at the worst possible time for Jets fans. If you can't see that, I don't know what to say.

I'm tired of these Groundhog Day seasons. Don't you see a pattern here? Fitz plays way above his level in 2015 so the Jets pass on the future, don't play any young QBs and Fitz predictably shits the bed in 2016. The Jets then dump vets left and right and set themselves up to stink and pick from one of the best QB drafts in memory. Except Bowles didn't get the memo and Mac has no control over Bowles and Woody is too busy paling around with the Toddler in Chief and securing his UK Ambassador job to care. So we get a season of McCown and a bunch of kids and McCown, who lost something like 22 of 23 coming into this season lights it up and - bang - the Jets lose out on a top draft pick. And its back on the hamster wheel.

Rosen, Darnold, Allen and Mayfield will all go before the Jets pick. Cousins will sign with a contender. The Jets will pass on Jackson because Mac will fall in love with BPA - probably a DB or DL. Jackson will go in the mid to late first round. The Jets will draft a QB in round 3 or 4 who will be Petty/Hack redux and sign McCown. McCown will assuredly suck next season and the Jets will go 2-14 and there will be no FQB in the draft - just like 1996 and 97. And around and around it goes. Enjoy!

Would you prefer Bowles didn't play the QB that gives us the best chance to win?
This fan base likes to complain for the sake of complaining sometimes.

If you want better QB play you have to bring in a better QB. I would love to see Cousins brought in. Even with him tho, we have major holes to fill in order for this team to take strides forward. Rebuilding doesn't happen overnight.

  15. I’m sorry you feel that way.

Unfortunately I’ll be here this time next year when we’re having very similar conversations on this board bc absolutely nothing has changed.

Afterall Jets fandom is a sickness of the soul.

    Happy holidays!

If the Jets resign McCown for next season to do anything but sit on the bench it'll be a catastrophe. Cousins, Luck (if Indy wants to trade him), drafted QB, or maybe by some slim chance that he suddenly becomes a stud, Hack. No one else should be starting QB for the Jets next season.

First jet team with consecutive losing seasons since 1994-1996. Still no qb or pass rusher in 3 years. Offensive line has deteriorated and cover guys are awful. 20-29 in 3 years and no playoffs. But we r going forward after going backward for 2 years. Coach can’t manage a game any better in year 3 then he did in game 1. Horrific special teams and never score on defense and ton of penalties. Games all about developing a qb but we have an hc that has zero interest in doing so. I expected this but it does not make it any easier. So frigging depressing

This move should shock no one ----> This is the move the Jets would make ,it is the easy move, the safe move . The can try and say the team is moving in the right direction but sorry folks I do not see it.Do you really expect Chris Johnson to put out a statement saying we are moving in the wrong direction ? I know this is a bad coach and inevitably he gets fired , all this move does is put off the inevitable. Let me put it this way I think Bowels has a much better chance to be fired than win a Super Bowl . Mac lost me a while ago , I think he is in over his head as well , just look at his drafts , his 2nd 3rd and 4th rd picks thats all you need to know . Put that together and try and sell me that this talent evaluator is going to find our FQB and I say good luck with that. The NYG just hired a football guy to be GM and hire a coach and evaluate talent, kinda the way its supposed to go at least in my eyes anyways. The Giants were a train wreck this year and sadly they are way closer to another Super Bowl right now than we are. I will be happy to come back and eat crow and if anyone wants to stick it to me when Bowles n Mac win a Super Bowl and repost this post feel free ! Make no mistake I will say I told you so and repost this in a year or so when MAC n Bowels and there extensions are shit canned a few years too late,,,,,,,go ahead coach and GM, use those draft picks and all that cap money and build a winning team I double dog dare you ! You give guys extensions when they have earned extensions ! All I can say is Thank God I gave up my season tickets after the first year in the new place.

There is too much whining here to address in one post.

Some people seem to think rebuilding requires losing and then one day you just start winning. It doesn't work like that.
Being a terrible team (which you hoped for) was not the way forward.
Playing a bad option at QB because they are younger was not the way forward.
Firing everyone for over achieving was also not the way forward.
Sorry the team disappointed you on all counts.

You’re sadly mistaken if you feel there is only a “small group”. You’ll see how small this group really is when you see an obvious nose dive in attendance next year....
