I want a head coach who gets respect because he's good. He works hard with all the players. My GM sees talent in all rounds, including the first. The staff better game plan and adjust on the fly, not needing to wait until the half. Yes a legit FQB and young players trying to exceed.

Another thing that I believe to be important is having a unified direction. Look at how the Yankees just rebuilt in record time. They went all in in developing their prospects. While we did a lot of that this season because Mac cut a lot aging veterans, you have Bowles doing the exact opposite. Yes McCown was decent and Petty sucks, but we weren't going into the playoffs anyway. Outside of the QB situation, I didn't see enough of McGuire, Stewart, and Hansen as I would have liked. I believe the GM should have the ultimate power unless the coach is a demonstrated winner.

To be fair, very few teams rival Seattle in the thug department and they are successful.

I'd add the ownership plays a huge part of this. The elite franchises have durable owners that are committed to a long view. Even the newer (relatively) owners have a longer view of their team's success. While I don't know the secrets of good ownership, it does appear to be important to sustaining success.

I think the secret of good ownership is simple. It's either an owner who has been around the game a long time and is very knowledgeable, or it's an owner who realizes his limitations, and just as he does in his other businesses, he goes out and hires the best man he can find to run that business, he does the same with his football team. He finds an experienced, smart, quality man to run the team, then steps back out of the way and doesn't involve himself in decisions unless or until it becomes clear that the man he has hired is not the right man for the job. A good owner isn't cheap. He provided the resources necessary for the team to flourish.

So, did we ever figure out who the ghetto rat thugs are? I'd like to be well informed on this score.

Maybe we need some thugs to win some games. Sure doesn't look like these choirboys are getting it done. You got McCown acting like a pussy and crying cause his season was over. Heck he's had plenty of those season ending early. The GM needs to find talent in every round also and UDFA and regular free agency. If they bring McCown back like they are bringing Bowles back and Macc your season might as well be flushed.

NE has drafted like shit over the past 5-6 years. they live off belichick and brady. their roster isn't even any good. they have a good o-line, brady, and gronk. they are so desperate for WR help they traded their 1st for cooks and signed britt after cleveland cut him mid season. Their Defense is poor as well. It's all belichick and brady. once they are gone that franchise is going to fold

How about we start with the easiest things and work our way down the list? How about we start with a GM that can identify talent BEFORE round 2? Darron Lee says hello, the incompetent twerp doing his best impression of Ike Turner.

NE has drafted like shit almost every year BB has been there. He seems to be pretty good evaluating TEs and ILBs, and decent at OL. Beyond that, NE has excelled at getting the most out of JAGs.

    Recipe for no titles
    - Mediocre Mac Drafts
    - Todd Toilet Bowles Coachin
    - Owner keeps hiring first year defensive minded head coaches. They're cheaper.
    - Keep drafting defense in round one with no franchise qb.
    - Owner now seems more concerned with politics than team.

One 15 yard penalty, a possible ejection by a little known role player, a fine to said role player levied by NFL brass, and WHAMMO, no more dynasty. The refs won't be able to help the NE Cheatriots any more unless it's obvious.
Let's go JETS, blitz Brady even if he is standing on the sideline holding his helmet!

New York Post: Saturday morning edition...... JETS sign Bobby Boucher
    For the Patriots season final!
Momma said Tom Brady is tha Debil!!!

    - Screw the pooch with every 2nd round pick
    - Pick a project QB several rounds earlier than the rest of the NFL had him projected
    - Make "on time" for meetings flexible, "if" they decide to attend
    - stick to your game plan even when down by 24 points
    - Punt late in the game when down by 1 score and little chance of getting the ball back
    - mis-manage timeouts and let at least 30 seconds go by before deciding to call a timeout
    - hire a HC with a smirk that stays the same whether up 20 or down 20
    - start a scrub journeyman QB over developing a young QB every game until he gets hurt
    - start do nothing vets over hungry young players
    - etc etc etc
