The CS, specifically Bowles, has done more than enough to earn walking papers. There's no need to add Petty and Hack's mechanics and accuracy problems to that. If you need to find someone to blame for this 2, you should be going after Mac.
Sorry Petty fans, but I don't buy the coaching staff excuse. Petty was just as bleh last year with a completely different offensive coaching staff, in a completely different offense. Actually, if anything, he was a tad bit better last year.
Also, anyone who is bringing up Hack is just lost. It was beyond obvious to all of us PSU people that the dude was terrible in college and was going to be a terrible pro.
So you keep saying, frankly I don't agree with you, a professional coach should have had him at least competent after 3 seasons or released, you must think that somebody at the Jets thought they were competent as they were happy to sign an injury prone starter and have these two young QB's as understudies, a serious misjudgement it would seem. Another thing I really don't like are these "measurables" the Nazi's were big into this kind of thing, I really do feel for the smaller athlete in your country as they never get much of a chance do they, what you can't do a 20ft broad jump GTFO, oh you can run fast, great WR material, you can't catch, no problem we can train that into you, a horrible system. Yes I am 5ft 6" so what of it.
There is only you that seems to have difficulty in believing that we may have struggled in the coaching department, it has nothing to do with giving Bowles his papers specifically or the two QB's we have but more to do with the fucking worry that the same inept fucking QB coaches will still be fucking here to coach our new fucking youthful future fucking FQB, does this thought not fill you with utter dread ? It does for me and I know it does for @Cman60 As for going after Mac, they may well have been a couple of bad selections but just how do you know that properly coached they could have been something different ? That has been the point of mine and others points all along, there has been no improvement for Petty and in fact currently looking like a huge regression in from the summer and that isn't on Mac but on the bloody QB Coach. Can I be any more fucking clear now ? Jesus H Christ
from another Jet site.."This team ruined Petty by making him play last year when he wasn’t ready. The Jets needed to sit Petty for 20 years and let him develop." LOL
It doesn't. I like the Morton and Bates combo. As long as we draft a QB that fits our system I think they will do fine. Remember they inherited Petty and Hack who are terrible fits for the WCO. The one guy that fit the O had a career year under them. Also I don't think I'm the only one that doesn't blame the CS for Petty not being able to hit the ocean even if he was in a boat. Petty NEVER had a shot at being an effective starter; he simply lacks the necessary skill set. Furthermore at his age and draft position there's no way he would have gotten the amount of meaningful snaps needed to work on all the areas he needed to improve on. Hack on the other hand given the opportunity and right scheme may still have a chance as he is still young enough. I can't say Petty regressed since I didn't think he was any good the years prior. You and the rest of the Petty apologists have to realize that he is in the first year of a scheme he is terribly unsuited to run. Gailey's O was a lot closer to what he ran in Baylor than Morton WCO. Maybe that's why he looks like he had a "huge" regression in your eyes.
I'm not sure why this debate is still going on anyway. We all know Petty doesn't fit this system and we all know Petty is gone as soon as Macc can make it happen. Hack is right behind him. Like K'OB said, the real concern should be the next young QB Macc drags in here to be "groomed". Personally, I don't trust Macc to either draft the right QB or develop that talent to a suitable NFL level. Bates hasn't shown shit so far except that he can stay in the shadows which I guess is what a QB coach should do. Too bad he has Zero to show for his stay here so far. Lets not even bring up Patullo. He was totally worthless. Macc should just keep on renting Vet Qb's on the FA market instead of ruining whatever chance some kid has of having a NFL career. Let other teams do the hard work of actually developing a young QB. This FO/CS is only 3 years in and they're continuing in the fine old Jet tradition of ruining young Qb talent. The next Young QB this CS develops will be the first. May God have mercy on the next Qb that get drafted by the Jets. He's gonna need divine intervention on a major scale just to survive his rookie contract.
IMO it's more likely that Mac would draft the wrong prospect for the current scheme than it is likely Morton and Bates would screw up the development of the right prospect.
What odds are you willing to give? I'd go 60/40 Macc drafts the wrong guy. 50/50 Morton and Bates could successfuly develop the right prospect.
I'd go as high as 70/30 Mac drafts another strong armed inaccurate QB with poor footwork and the same odds that Morton/Bates develops the right prospect. I remember back in 2005 season thinking that whoever our QB coach was deserved a raise and the team MVP award. Bates had to coach 4 different starting QBs that year and had Brooks Bollinger look like he belonged on the NFL. Given the talent I think Morton has done one of the best jobs by a Jets OC in 2 decades. So needless to say I have a lot more faith in them then I do Mac.
Again you seemed to have missed the point, you have made your reply all about Petty and ah fuck it, what is the point if you are not reading the posts properly ?
Here is my 2 cents.. First off, I feel bad for Bryce ..a shot at the NFL a dream come true and it's not working out. His family and Agent should get him away from the Jets imo...let him try to use his 4th round skills with the best personal Coach to get to a level of a Second Rounder.. Result: Nice backup career in NFL ...great pay...Petty is also smart and has a college degree just in case That said...the kid arrived here as A FOURTH ROUNDER...i.e. Not that great ...how can you possibly make a silk purse outa a sows ear??? Not happening So his failure is a COMBINATION of inherently low average QB skills and poor coaching by the Jets Time to move on..
I am not at all that negative..I see raw talent in this years QB class..and lots of opportunity...plus a hundred if you see someone on this present CS who is a capable coach No one knew how Watson would fare till he was drafted which was taking a chance ...point is you need to just get a talented kid drafted...THEN worry about the CS...they can be hired and fired to get the most out of your prospect Faith in Mac?? IMO the choices he has out there are not bad at all....it won't be that hard a decision/ just the wheeling and dealing... TBH there is NO perfect QB out there and debate all you like Mac has to hit it outa the Park and grab one for us
Right what is it with some folk on here that keep on wittering on about draft position being the big deal for everything, Petty is done but it isn't because he was a fourth rounder. How much would you pay for Cousins in FA ? = a 4th rounder, oh right. How about Wilson or Foles, same draft third rounders, that still makes then automatically shit because not round 1 material right ? Am I doing this right, am I on the same page as you now ? http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?type=position Take a look at some of those first and 2nd round QBs, wow.
Oh look what's back! Totally blame Bowles for Petty not being able to complete a 3 yard pass to Kearse on a crucial down. That offense in Baylor made Mac look like a fool for selecting him.
Not disagreeing necessarily no one is atomatically anything in my book till they take the field ...we have seen 3 years of meh from Petty..it is what it is Like Greensleeves posted..there is 67 per cent better chance of success with first rounders ...doesn't mean there is a chance you cannot get the next Wilson come the third round in 2018...it's just lower statistically and historically So who do you think is going to be an NFL superstar from round 3 2018?
No one likes him ..so I guess I am intrigued ahahah I wish I had the Football smarts and intuition like an Andy Reid ...people were filibustering over Mahomes and next thing you know poof he's a smart guys property
