It’s better than staying with a GM who keeps you at 4-6 wins. Better to admit a mistake than try to pretend it doesn’t exist.

Hey JB. I am torn regarding Mac. On one side I am not impressed with his performance on the other hand I don't trust Jets enough to find a better GM. I am willing to keep him but allow him to pick his own HC.

Why in the world would I ever want to sell you on Mac? Now, I'm not of the opinion that he should be fired, but I am far from being an apologist. Right now, I'm on the fence with him. Before the 2017 draft I had hoped he'd get fired. However, now he's doing a better job. The 2017 draft is by far and away the best draft Mac has had. Every one of his draft choices up until last spring, except for Williams and recently Jenkins, are hot garbage. I mean its no wonder the Jets are worse than they ever were under Tanny?

I just think he had a good 2017 draft and I'm crossing my fingers that'll continue.

The Jets are still paying for the mistakes of Tannenbaum and Idzik.

Mac has done a respectable job so far in terms of resetting the mistakes but he has to define his legacy with a QB.

    The time is now.

To be fair, mccagnan traded a 5th and 7th round pick for two guys in Fitzpatrick and Marshall who went on tears in 2015 so that should count forth when looking back at the 2015 draft.

I cant decide on MM as well

Dont forget the big winner in him coming to the Jets is MM:

He no longer is a "rookie GM" now he can point out on his resume all the best deals Anderson ASJ etc he did for us and spin it to some other team that he can be another C Casserly after he is gone from here

That said hes got a last chance to prove his worth to me in fixing up the offense this offseason with a draft QB some OL ...stay away from FA if he can..

otherwise yes agree overall the team is a bit worse off now

He hasn’t accomplished a single thing in three years. Tried to win for the first two and didn’t; tried to lose in the third and screwed it up too. Net result: we are exactly where we were before he started just with different players.

I understand. But if he was given a choice regarding tanking this year, what do you think he would have done? I am sure he would play the young guys(tank) and pick his QB with his new HC. The hierarchy in Jets is the problem. Until we let our GM's pick their coaches, I find it unfair to put all the blame on GM and dump them every 2-3 years.

Listen you can't just keep cycling thru these GM's and staff's...there will NEVER be continuity here and it's ridiculous to keep going through these 2-3 year stints where you basically have to overhaul your ENTIRE operation based upon that GM's ideals.

So Big Mike has to stay, his drafts seemed to have gotten better as the year wears on. 2015 draft Leonard Williams of course but that was it. Basically a failure due to not contributing to the roster besides Big Cat. (Gotta give him props for Robby Anderson) 2016 draft, I still like Lee, Jenkins and Shell are key contributors. Lac Edwards is decent, and jury still out on Burris but he will be back next year. Hack, who freaking knows.

This draft Adams and Maye will be studs to me. Hansen I feel maybe better then Stewart but both will be contributors for the Jets. McGuire has shown he's apart of the RB stable. Donahue the staff was high on before he got hurt. Leggett is an unknown as well as Jones (basically redshirt) and Clark.

Beachum was a good signing, he's been solid on the line.
    Wes Johnson= yuck
TE Tomlinson= very good blocking TE
McLendon= solid vet, been good in the middle
Cooper= still young but may have some promise, high motor
    Pennel= solid depth guy
Claiborne= not much of a playmaker but solid cover corner, I'd bring him back
Ealy= started off strong, not sure what to make of him, prolly bring him back but not as much money.

I've seen some good depth signings and guys who can be apart of the team for years to come. He really needs the 2017 draft to be great and he HAS to find a QB this next draft. It has to be priority, and to improve that OLine and get a pass rusher!

    2017 Draft
    Jamal Adams, S, Rd 1, (6)
    Marcus Maye, S, Rd 2, (39)
ArDarius Stewart, WR, Rd 3, (79)
Chad Hansen, WR, Rd 4, (141)
Elijah McGuire, RB, Rd 6, (188)

    JURY OUT- Stewart, Hansen, Donahue

    2016 Draft
Darron Lee, OLB, Rd 1, (20)
Jordan Jenkins, OLB, Rd 3, (83)
    Brandon Shell, T, Rd 5, (158)
    Lac Edwards, P, Rd 7, (235)

    JURY OUT- Hack, Burris

    2015 Draft
Leonard Williams, DE, Rd 1, (6)
    WR Robby Anderson UDFA

Right. Better to have continuity, even if it’s consistently bad, than trying to actually find competent leaders that will make you good.

Is there a championship for continuity that I’m not aware of?

Not one impact player. That Macc is one talented guy. To have 3 drafts and not one star picked. The Jets have had back to back GM do this . Tell me again why he should keep his job?

At some point you have to call it like you see it. His drafts have been awful and they have been drafting top 15 everytime. So stop with the oh his drafts are good and you have to give him time. That is typical of jets fans. Sorry but the NFL is a performance driven league and if your coach and GM aren't up to the task then they should get canned. This is not a training facility where they might get it right in 10 years. People are paying great money on tickets, parking, merchandize, Direct TV and the Jets are a crappy product right now and Macc and Bowels are responsible. Try and be crappy at your job for 3 years and see what happens.

You say he has done a good job overall but he hasn't gotten a competent QB on the roster. He has handed out enormous contracts with horrible results. His drafts are a solid grade of D. So I'm not seeing what kind of massive curve you are grading him on

What kind of litmus test are you using for that analogy. Idzik was just as bad and he was gone in 2.

To be fair, I think Marcus Maye should be on the list he gets credit for. I get the impression Mac was scouting him long and hard prior to the draft? Sometimes I think he might just be a tad better player than Adams dare I say. He makes more flashy plays.

Maybe, maybe not. But Idzik really wasn't a scout type GM he was more of an admin bean counter. So their might be some validity to that and so was Tannenbaum. He was an accountant and Mangini told him who to take. So now we have a professional scout in Macc who stinks at his job. When will the Jets ever get it right and get a solid football staff that knows all the ins and outs of running a football team.
