The defense played really well. The Saints offense is hard to stop, and after some adjustments the Jets D made key stops. I was sure their 2 RB would be unstoppable. Just a bad match-up for the Jets defense but they hung in there til the end. The offense was pretty bad. They don't let Petty loose ever. The coaching staff have no confidence in him. He did not do enough to give them any either, unfortunately. Still showed flashes though, like he has since Day 1. Just not consistent enough to be a starting QB. Overall, a decent performance by the Jets, who covered the spread!
I called the fishing trip in the match day thread tbf it wasn't the biggest price on sports book but a winners a winner. It was a bit of everything yesterday, a game we could and should have won, bad play calling and that isn't making excuses for Petty it is the truth. Runs up the gut aplenty. But ultimately Petty showed us he really isn't an NFL QB unfortunately. As for them 4 Anderson drops if he was meant to catch them with his ankles then you could say they were drops, can't even believe somebody is trying to shift the blame onto him lol BowleS awful again, punting when a bit of balls was required, it is amazing to think we were still in the game with 2mins left.
Worth a watch for the 12 men on the field penalties, O-line had a good game - really? depends how u feel about defenders not being blocked....
Watching Bryce Petty play QB was like watching someone masturbate with a cheese grater. It was AWFUL.....
Defense played well and forced a ton of turnovers but Darron lee got roasted all game long and the game plan offensively was extremely conservative. A side of me feels like the coaches are morons for being so conservative and the other side of me understands given what I saw out of petty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The offense was out of sync all day with Petty back there. Game seems to move a bit too fast for him as he is late He clunks the easy throws because things are moving too fast for him. The offense had some real chances with better timing
It was so bad that if McCown was QBing that game the Jets just might’ve beaten the Saints by 2 TDs. I was hopeful maybe Petty could be a bridge Qb/backup but he doesn’t look to be worth a roster spot next year. He’s going to have to look a lot better next two weeks, I hope the Jets have an extremely short leash with him next week. We’ve heard all year how unfairly the Jets have treaded Petty but he should be thanking his lucky stars that Hack is behind him or he might have been out of NFL chances.
I must say Darron Lee was exceptionally BAD in this game. That was the Saints game plan in fact? Right from the opening kickoff, they went after Darron Lee and continued throughout the game. He was caught out of position on many occasions and he got stiff armed by a RB no less on that big play the Saints had to open the game. Drafting him really was a big mistake. He's just not a very good player at all.............
I was thinking the same thing stop running every kickoff to the 15, kid has no speed or elusiveness, a perfect Jet
Stepped in right where he left last year..... a few nice throws to make you think "well maybe....." mixed between all the mistimed, inaccurate low fastballs. pissed I didnt go fishing too
You know there’s a reason why Kamara likely will win ROTY? Kid can’t be covered by LB’s even as fast as Lee is, he’s not and no one is covering that dude in space. He averages like 7 yards on the ground and 10 receiving. He’s been doing this all year no matter who is at LB. As for Petty , look I feel like they had a limited playbook selection for him so obviously he needs the reps and game time. Most the time it was a run on first down. Obvious pass situations became obvious and they ran a few short hitch/curl routes which really didn’t garner much help in the pass game. That gameplan wouldn’t have been for McCown because he knows the PB inside and out. What troubled me the most was he was very inaccurate on some of the short throws. He bounced a few, he threw some a bit off target to where Robby had to show great hands to scoop it close to off the turf, even his on the mark throws were behind the receiver or too low. He had two awful throws near the end zone where he zipped a pass to Robby I believe that he simply couldn’t catch due to it being behind and waaay too fast on a speed (Robby in motion) screen. (Saints ran a variation of this to perfection earlier in the game). Next play Robby was one on one with Lattimore and he there was miscommunication. Either Robby was suppose to run a modified fade and get inside (which that rarely happens on that type of play there) or his back shoulder fade was off the mark by about 3 yards and it way off the mark. His deep ball though was great. He dropped a perfect ball into the hands of McGuire who btw he looked off the safety and placed that pass perfectly between the LB and safety. He also threw a nice pass to Hansen who made a nice play over the safety. Obviously you can’t just say, “Hey Petty, just look deep”...that’s not how football works. I felt like the gameplan could have been better on first down to get into more manageable 2nd and 3rd down situations.
Thanks for all the feedback guys! I'll watch later today but so far from what I've read here and in the media, looks like Petty isn't ready for primetime just yet if ever. Perhaps he needs to spend more time practicing with the starters. Perhaps some time in Canada wouldn't hurt either. Too bad the Arena league folded. As it is, call it "strike one" for Petty's future with the Jets. Kid's first start was on the road against one the giants of the NFL Qb fraternity so I'm sure there was just a bit of nervousness along with knowing what these last 3 games mean for him. Can he be fixed? With time and proper coaching I'm sure he could but that's the problem isn't it. Can Bates fix Petty? Are the Jets even willing to try to fix him after 2.5years of neglecting him? Knowing Petty's strength is the long ball, why all the dinks? Finally, if they had started Petty from day one, perhaps Petty would be further down the road OR the Jets would be in prime position for a top 5 pick. They could have tanked the season without actually tanking the season under the guise of developing Petty. They know what Petty's limitations are. They know what needs to be fixed in Petty's game in order for the kid to become serviceable. Even Bowles didn't crush the kid's effort although I have a feeling a lot of that was for media consumption. If Morton's system depends on dinking and dunking, Petty is NOT that QB and should be released and/or traded. They should also keep that in mind at the upcoming combine next spring. Instead of looking for a QB that has a cannon and can make all the throws, perhaps they should look for the Qb that can make all the SHORT throws mixed in with the occasional 20yd out or laser over the middle. Damn, I haven't even watched the game yet!!! Shit!!!
On a day where Buster Skrine looked like the best player on the field (for either team)....I'd rather have been fishing. The defense really did look good. Every team in the league has trouble with Kamara and Ingram, that's why the Saint's are the #1 offense in the league. All the more impressive because Williams was out for much of the game. People complain about the play calling not allowing Petty to throw long. Okay, but sticking with short passes is why the offensive line looked only a little below average. How many passes were swatted at the line? Petty was getting hit right after the release on the short passes.
You posted this 22 minutes ago, so it should be getting better about now, depending on how you treat your DVR commercials.
That's what the FF button is for. I'm in the 3rd qtr. Not seeing anything too aggregious from Petty. A lot of misses, a lot of pressure on the kid too. Very conservative game plan too. So far Petty is looking just like a rookie making his first start of the year. The team on whole still looks pretty disorganized. Too many dumb penalties and Bowles is still saving his TO's like lottery tickets.
Still not seeing this God awful Qb play from Petty. It ain't great, but its hardly the worst Qb play ever either. Very predicatable playcalling and they're keeping Petty's throws all short. That's not helping.
