I was wrong about Mo, thinking that he would get over his injuries and resume his solid 2015 pro bowl year. That never materialized - it could be the leg injury he suffered the end of that year, because he has never been the same since. Co-incidence? When dealing with injuries who's to make an accurate judgement on those afflicted? But that is no excuse for missing team meetings. What a disaster for the Jets to deal with. They have no recourse but to set him loose and find a replacement.
Need to make a point about another player, former Jet, Marvin Jones. Before the hip injury, he was without a doubt one of the best MLB's out of college and a can't-miss pro-bowler. His first year with the Jets, he was just an awesome player that had so much potential. But, after the injury, there was much missing in his aggressiveness and speed. He become just a 'good' player, not a great one. In a game where legs are so important to a player, if they get hurt in that area, it's just like when a horse breaks its leg, sad to say.
Rex didn't Discipline players so it wasn't much of an issue then, publicly. Bowles should have been much stricter from day 1. I think part of the veteran purge was to regain control of the locker room. Bowles and Mac discussed the issue with Mo before extending him, (obviously was not enough). Issues in 2012 , besides the sneaking out after bed checks, the reckless driving arrest where he hit a truck on the garden State pky, flipping his vehicle. Was it 11 or 12 when he was ejected for fighting in preseason game vs Giants? Then 2014 again ejected vs the Packers for taking swings at packer players. His play dropped after getting paid. It's not uncommon, he also had injuries. Could be the main reason, a contributing factor. I don't know and neither does anyone else besides Mo. The fact remains, he is being well paid to do a job, a job he is not doing well. And he can't even make the effort to show up to work on time. Who's fault is that?
He would sign for vet minimum , essentially we would be paying him to go play for a contender and a shot at a Superbowl ring. Why reward him for not living up to his contractual obligations?
Being cut in the middle of a season is not rewarding. It will hurt his stock going forward. And again, it’s being petty. Get rid of the problem as soon as you can. What he does afterwards has no bearing on the team
Two games remaining is not the middle of the season. He won't be picked up until Monday or Tuesday, again, maybe I am being petty but I'd personally sit him the remainder of the season and cut him in January. Then there's no risk of injury and being on the hook for the rest of his guaranteed salary , and it sends a message to the rest of the team. Personally, I wouldn't want to send him to a contender this season. In my opinion, it's rewarding him for his behavior. Where he goes next year is a different story. This year he is still under the Jets control.
I'd sign him to an extension. Probably 3-4 years. THEN trade him to Cleveland. [When you want to fuck someone, you must do it hard.]
such a shame - gone from my favourite player still on the Jets to my least favourite - will be glad to see the back of him in the offseason
So one of the commentators mentioned today that Wilkerson had called in prior that he was going to be late to the meeting due to his shoulder? Not just turning up late without warning. Haven't seen that part anywhere so not sure if it was just them making shit up.
No pass rush with Mo Wilkerson, no pass rush without. It's almost as if he hasn't been playing at all for the last 2 seasons
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...hammad-wilkerson-will-play-again-this-season/ Didn't see this before, but sounds like it was tardiness again that led to his benching. Jeez it's hard to fathom when stuff like this happens, but if this guy put forth an effort he could be an NFL great, a local and Jets legend and make a whole lot more money. Instead he can't even show up on time for meeting. This guy must have some real issues. Anyway, since he is not part of the future and there's that odd clause for his salary becoming guaranteed for injury (or something like that), he needs to be shut him down the next two games. Seems like Xavier Cooper had a decent game (by PFF metrics, at least, he was a top performer yesterday). I'm much more interested in watching him play. Playing Mo again would be pointless and reckless.
Oddly enough I don't even remember hearing about the Wilkerson accident. Thanks for letting me know, although making a mistake on the road doesn't really seem like red flag for a bad attitude or discipline problem. People make mistakes and he wasn't actually arrested for that. I remember the Packers ejection, but not the Giants one for some reason. Yeah that would qualify, I suppose.
Interesting. I thought they mentioned that it was something to do with his child. It seems a little harsh to bench somebody over that when they did call ahead of time, but I guess Bowles was down to his last straw with the tardiness and there were probably other issues not made public.
Surprised this was mostly overlooked in the narrative. It mostly sounded like he just rocked up late, no warning, which definitely justified being benched. Giving prior notice though, murkies the water and seems like a statement for the sake of a statement.
meh, if you are consistently late with no excuse and get reprimanded for it, no one is buying it when you call in with an excuse the next week. he used up all his good will
He's apparently been late so many times, or just flat out missed meetings, that he doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt, even when he has a legitimate excuse to be late. Mac can't cut this guy quick enough.
