When it comes to Petty, I'll put it this way:

I now completely understand why they started the season with McCown

I can't find the original post but Ken O'Brien was one of the best draft picks in the history of this franchise. Almost every team in the league passed on Dan Marino so criticizing our front office for getting a QB who made multiple pro bowls late in the first round is ridiculous.

Yeah, but the weak arm means he really wasn't a very good QB...not fqb anyway. I liked him a lot, but he wasn't going to win a SB unless he was on a stacked team.

Frankly I just think that the crux of the problem is clueless ownership and FO. Ownership hires poor-to-mediocre GMs and hire poor-to-mediocre HCs who don't know what they're doing. It really gets back to that fact - the Steelers, Pats, Packers, Broncos, Cowboys - they don't always win but they're usually in the mix. Why is that? Smart ownership.

Would you really take O'Brien over Marino?

Not everyone here - I feel it's more on the coaching staff - the plays today especially, were designed not to take any chances but it backfired anyway because it cause Petty to make predictable throws to tight coverage. It's screwy to think what the reason is except that they didn't want him succeed?

One thing about O'Brien, he had the bad habit of holding the ball waaayy too long which led him to be the most sacked QB in the NFL.
But, he took a beating and always came off the ground like a stepped on banana peel to throw another pass. He was a tough dude.

I was looking at Petty's stats from last year and in his two best games including the Miami game where he got injured he did much better on the short routes. In one game Powell had a few catches and Forte had some in the other game.

Perhaps with our OL issues they were too busy blocking to get open this week.
    Smoky McPot?

How many Superbowls did he win?

I don't think that his habit of holding the ball and Wesley Walker outrunning everyone to get open in the end zone were coincidental. Joe Walton was also a believer in the deep ball.

Last I checked there were 21 other guys on the team that have some impact on that stat. But how many did Kenny win?

Kenny won just as many Superbowls as Danny.

If it hadn't been for all of the injuries I think he would have given Parcells a run for his money in the 1986 Superbowl.

    Horror show out there today.

The best part of the game was watching Petty’s mechanics directly juxtaposed with Brees, an absolute technician.

    Josh Rosen please.

Hahah they ruined Petty. Petty sucks, but yeah let's blame that on his lack of reps.

How do we get Josh Rosen when Cleveland has a lock on the first overall pick?

Even if Cleveland screws the pick up the Giants are waiting to take Rosen at # 2.

Also. Stop smiling when you make an abhorrent throw to a wide open player.

Not sure Cleveland is locked on Rosen.

    Giants are high on Darnold.

Very unlikely the Jets get Rosen but draft stock can drastically fluctuate between now and the draft. Who’s to say Rosen doesn’t fall?

So your answer to your statement that petty wasn't bad in today's game is because he was missing low, and not high?

I don't know about Petty. I bet a smart offensive coach could make him a solid starting QB.
