There is only so much a coaching staff can do. The onus is on the prospect to develop too.

These two haven't done enough to warrant playing and frankly IDGAF.

I'm excited to move on at this point.

It doesn't even matter anymore..Petty and Hack clearly aren't the future so it's gonna be McCown and who ever we draft this year going forward...those are just the fact.

  3. Why any Jet Fan would be happy about this News is beyond me.And that’s where Bowles loses me.

This is definitive “Jets purgatory”.We lose too many games to be relevant but win just enough to screw us out of real change.Meanwhile the Head coach thinks everything is a rose garden as he is thrilled to annoint a 38 year old at QB & that he keeps his job.

    I’ve lost hope

Cutting both Petty and Hack makes zero sense. They'll probably re-sign McCown. They aren't gonna draft 2 QBs.

Of course Bowles is dumb. Some of us have known that all along. Since he didn't have to answer to anyone unless McCown had totally flopped, Bowles never had any intentions of playing Petty or Hack.

That doesn't matter. We know that McCowns isn't the future. He isn't going to turn into Kurt Warner and lead the Jets to the playoffs several years and a SB victory. One year doesn't mean anything. It's the big picture, the long term that's important. The Jets need to find and develop their own FQB.

Maybe we'll get lucky this offseason and several women will come forward and accuse Bowles of rape and/or harrassment and then Woody would fire him for that.

It is a totally stupid move, but that's typical of Bowles. If nothing else, since the Jets don't see Petty in their future, and several teams expressed interest in Petty this past offseason, the Jets ought to play him for the last 2-3 games, give him a game plan where he can play well, to solidify his trade value, and then trade him in the offseason and at least get something for him. But the effing Jets are just too stupid.

There's always some legendary whisperer coach that would be pressing magic buttons with players that our coach is too stupid to see, but fans can see tho. I wonder if this works with all the other players that couldn't cut it on all the other teams?

Bowles is in the business of winning games and since he hasn't deserved an extension, he's gonna end up playing the QB that gives him the best chance to win. He has no reason to start Hack or Petty and next year who knows if that changes if McCown is removed as a starter.

Personally, Macc and Bowles cannot continue getting away with starting old joruneymen QB's and expect to keep their jobs. This is a 3rd year without a playoff appearance and quite frankly the only reason they're coming back is because the bar was low.

I disagree. This team isn't going to the playoffs, so why play McCown? Why not give the kids a chance and see what they can do? Supposedly, several teams expressed interest in trading for Petty last offseason. Why not give him a solid week or two of practice and a good game plan, and then let him play? He certainly has to play better than last year, and it could improve his trade value. Since the Jets don't think he is the answer, why not try to get something for him rather than just releasing him? Sitting him diminishes his trade value.

So long as there is a mathematical chance that we can make the playoffs, I have no problem seeing McCown start as he clearly gives us the best chance to win today.

Once we get eliminated, I'm fine seeing Petty/Hack, but it sounds like the CS, FO, and players may have seen enough from those two (last season, preseason, practice) to know that they are not a long term answer at the position. I don't support intentional tanking and believe it would do more harm than good to the long term well being of the franchise.

Don't include Mac in that. That's solely Bowles' decision. Mac cannot order him to play Petty or Hack.

If we had an owner with one iota of intelligence, he'd order Bowles to play Petty and Hack, but we don't.

Well no it is Macc's fault too because he drafted Hack and despite them trying to give him the starting position he failed miserably and McCown was named starter. Petty was never considered for starter in the offseason because I truly believe his audition ended last season. It's very obvious the Jets don't think Hack or Petty are any good. Had Macc drafted a legitimate quarterback, McCown would be on the bench and the prospect of having him come back for 2018 wouldn't exist. Maccagnan has to be blamed for not getting a QB so far, and will fall on the sword next season if the Jets don't select a QB, the QB sucks or doesn't play, we don't make the playoffs, the record is awful, or the team quits.

Dumb get the natives restless article.
Bowles has been preaching this all year long but now it’s a headline.
Beat reporters playing to the easy crowd to get clicks is all this is. Usual suspect are always more than happy to oblige them

People blaming Bowles solely for and QB decision is as dumb as Giants fans blaming Mcadoo for benching Eli.

I couldn't disagree more. You have zero evidence that Mac thinks that neither Petty nor Hack are the answer. Mac has no control over what Bowles does. You don't know that McCown would be on the bench. Some players need to play in order to develop fully. I think your rationale on this issue is lacking.

No, you're the ignorant and dumb one. Mac has no control over Bowles. They're peers. Mac is not Bowles' boss. Bowles, and solely Bowles decides who plays and who doesn't. Mac can and does give Bowles his input, but the final decision is Bowles. That has been made clear in the media several times by direct quotes from Mac. For all we know, Mac could have said that Petty should have started this year, but Bowles ignored it.

If Mac had decided last year that Petty had failed his chance and wasn't the answer going forward, he would have traded Petty as several teams expressed interest in him. Even getting a low or mid-round pick would be better than releasing him and getting nothing. You and other posters here make too many assumptions without any facts or evidence to support your assumptions.

Kurt. Purgatory was created as a temporary place, hell is eternal. May be Todd feels we are in purgatory, but it feels closer to Jet's hell to the rest of us. LOL.

The incredible stupid part is that these guys are so blinded by hate and vitriol that they can't see Bolwes is a gentleman, a class act, and probably an excellent mentor for these men playing for the team that these ugly fucktards are rooting for. That they think they know more about football is fucking pathetic. Look how easily they're manipulated by the media too, Holy Shite
