I love McCown and want him back next year! You can have Batman and Robin. Give me McCown. He's a FA and there will be teams bidding for him. He'll get Fitz money. Guys fantastic and tough. Love him! Now he just has to get us into the POs at 9-7, win 3 on the road, then smash whoever in the SB so my $100 Belagio ticket turns into $12,500. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I admit I was calling him McClown when he got here, but he has proved me the clown. Played good football and without injury. Good leader, and intelligent. The 38 year old age scares me, but he has earned a shot next year.
One of the few true leaders on this team and a savant of the game .Went off on Morton and Bowles on the sideline yesterday after about 12 straight running plays.. don't know if anyone else caught that lol. Would love to have him back as a coach some day or as a back-up next year, but to rely on him as a starter again is a dangerous move to say the least
Yes he is a FA, don't expect jets to sign him though, I'm sure he will either re sign with Vikings or have many quality teams to choose from.
I think we all learned something from the Fitz debacle... that being said, this guy is better than Fitz ever was from a passing perspective. He can drop the ball in and all of a sudden we're connecting fairly consistently on deep throws. Other than that... he is getting long in the tooth but I think we can squeak another year out of him while we wait for either a rookie or FA to step in.
These comments are pretty similar to the Fitz comments of 2015 as we were heading in to week 17 to win or go home. McCown is a really good back up QB, but as we've already seen play out this season, he makes critical mistakes in bad spots. I appreciate what he's done for the team and if they want to bring him back as a backup or a coach next season then I'm fine with it, but I'm tired of trotting out old journeymen QB's and relying on them to take us to the playoffs. Maccagnan will address QB in the offseason IMO because he knows that you can't keep on doing this and get away with it forever.
Unless someone can study McCown's past seasons, tell me why he sucked then and doesn't now, and convince me the change is sustainable, I want no part of him in 2018 unless he's mentoring a first rounder.
Most of the franchise QBs come in the top 10, or are diamonds in the rough (late rounds) that have a specific knock on them even though they were studs in college and often captains of their team for multiple years (Brady too slow, Dak took too many hits, Wilson too short, Cousins is a game manager). Obviously there are some exceptions. IMO, don't waste a pick in the first 3 rounds on a QB unless its a sure-fire hit in the top 10.
Getting a QB in late rounds depends on accurate scouting of minor colleges and less publicized QB's. I'm not sure our scouting group can unearth one, but I hope for some positive results.
They can bring him back for continuity's sake, but if they don't find an actual answer at that spot it will end badly for all parties involved. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
