Is the Jets continuing to start Josh McCown worse than the Buttfumble?

    great post

and to the people saying what difference does it make. the answer is a huge one. we are watching a team compete every game. we have an offense that puts up points and makes big plays and is fun to watch. it's making most fans not miserable. it also helps the team as far as selling tickets and revenue. if every team with no chance benched all their vets to "see young players" the NFL would be boring as fuck to watch and suffer as a whole. it also sends a bad message to the other players on the team that the coach no longer cares about winning. Every player and every coach wants to win every game. they are professional competitors. you play the guy that gives you the best chance to win on that day 100% of the time except maybe the final week if the game doesn't matter or if your lucky enough to rest players for the playoffs. you don't do it with 5 weeks left

Not really, Once the season starts the only time they see the back-ups is running scout team. The they see them everyday in practice BS is exactly that BS.

Robby is Petty's favorite target and and McCown has missed him plenty or has not had the arm to get the ball there so he checks down. I am not saying Petty would better than McCown but Robby certainty would with Petty under center.

I must be missing this great QB play because our breakdowns in the second half of games can almost all be attributed to McCown.

considering anderson just set his career high in yards and has 5 TDs in the past 4 games and is on pace for a 1000 yard season, i highly doubt petty would improve those numbers. petty has a bigger arm, but overthrew robbie a lot last yeah cause he lacks accuracy and he also lacks patience and vision to find him. the 54 yard TD last week was a thing of beauty. If you think petty comes out of that play with anything less then an INT or sack your crazy

Sorry but a coach knows what he sees.

It was probably more luck that McCown didn't also come away with a sack, it isn't like he is immune to being sacked is it ?

But I don't want to slag him off for a nice get out and TD pass.

I wasn't happy that McCown would be our best option at QB for the season, but considering everything he has played awesome considering his line and weapons. If we had him playing this way in 09-10, we may have played in a Super Bowl.
He has played very well surprisingly, and if he can do it with a good line, better receiving weapons and a running game, I wouldn't mind him being the guy until we get lucky and find a FQB. For the so called QB gurus, what more could you want from a QB given the situation?

There was some really good camera work and sound today covering the game. There was some up close shots of the line of scrimmage and the calls being made by McCown and Johnson and it shows how complicated it really is.
Petty would be lost there at this point most likely. Finding a C is easier said than done also.

But the OL needs to improve somehow with a player or two. I wonder how it grades out relative to the league? I would say a little below average as a guess, maybe at the top of the bottom third of the league.

    Gotta be better

I was waiting for McCown to mess it up, but that version of McCown never came. I absolutely loved the clip where you see him, Bowles and Morton talking on the sideline during that RZ opportunity

The way he's gotten Kearse involved, communicating with Hansen, Anderson continuing to improve. No way does Petty do any of this.

yup, everyone wants a good situation for a young qb to step into, this is how you build that.

Jets are almost there I think on O and it's crazy cause Mac hasn't really addressed the offense in the draft yet. I gotta give Mac credit on that one. When Q comes back, the Jets receiving corps is going to be a serious problem for opposing secondaries. The center position, cannot stress that Mac must prioritize that position in FA / Draft. Can't have the young QB out there with Wesley Johnson, nope.

Absolutely not. Petty missed Robby deep on a routine basis last year. McCown’s anticipation and deep ball accuracy has been far superior and it’s allowed Robby to shine.

Well the major point being we haven't seen enough of him to judge and when we did see him there was two huge problems 1 Gailey and 2 half of the team had given up and that is never ideal for a rookie QB, I admit I wasn't overly impressed in the 4 game spell but in the friendly games he stood out albeit against 3rd stringers and maybe some 2nd stringers but he did enough to warrant another chance but again this is just my opinion, I think he may well be a serviceable number 2 for all of his career but he won't see it like that until he has a shot at a number 1 position, when he only does okay he will slip into the role of backup and a good wage for the next 15 years like McCown has done.

I think he can have a decent career as a backup. I just don't see him as starter material. on a side note, wentz has impressed me. you see his 50+ yard throw while falling down last night?

McCown will likely start the rest of the season, even if we are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention at some point.

I've said this before but it's pretty clear the coaches and front office aren't interested in playing Petty or Hack and that the QB of the future is currently not on the roster.

McCown has earned the right to start and even if we bench him at any time within the next 4 weeks, it won't do much in terms of evaluating petty or hack. They are viewed as backups at best IMO
