LMAO you know how many time's i've heard this about jets QBs and coaches? geno, celemens, bollinger, McElroy, petty, brad smith, ainge, etc. hell i still have a glenn foley autograph all hail holy foley. every year fans clamor over some QB we have that hasn't played and think's he's the savoir but in reality it's a bunch of mediocre to shitty talent and the coaches see it every day. If petty was lighting up practices bowles would have played him. mccown barely played in pre season and hack and petty got almost as many reps in camp as mccown. they just didn't do anything with them.
or your making an assumption they are clueless and cna't spot a good QB they see every day. like i said before it's the same old story. and none of those "savoir" Qbs have gone on to any sucess elsewhere you quote an old article that really means nothing. here i can do that too but a newer one https://nypost.com/2017/11/28/why-jets-shouldnt-make-the-qb-move-the-giants-did/
It took four writers to come up with that giant moosecock suckage of an article. What fool would take that shit seriously? Holy shit.
The season is over - that's the point! Instead of using the rest of the season to evaluate our young QBs, we are wasting it by shoveling out a 38 year old QB who is the only player on the team that is certainly, 100% not part of the future of the team. The disgrace that is Tod Bowles is really more a reflection of the total failure of ownership and management. Any owner with a clue would fire Bowles immediately for continuing to play out the string with a 38 year old McCown rather than evaluating the young players we have sitting on the bench. Ultimately this is even worse for us (the fans), because even after Toilet Bowles has moved on to become defensive coordinator in Buffalo or somewhere else, we will be stuck with the same terrible ownership until they sell the team or the Grim Reaper takes them.
Hack and McNown each got at least twice as many reps as Petty. Bowles wouldn't know a franchise QB if it fell out of the sky and danced a jig on his face.
Well it certainly is newer but it's an embarrassment to the paper that published it. They pay Costello to voice his opinion but here he spins his opinion on the slimmest of mathematical possibilities when the big, fat reality that anyone else can see front and center is that there's no fucking way the Jets will even get a sniff at the playoffs. My opinion is that Costello's opinion is a waste of ink and pixels but if he supports your opinion...
and petty got way more time in preseason then mccown who played 1 series. so petty got just as much time if not more then mccown and his time was game time not practice
what about what rex ryan just said about benching your QB Former Bills’ coach Rex Ryan said he was told to bench quarterback Tyrod Taylor and his refusal ultimately led to his firing, Cole Shelton of USA Today reports. “When I was approached last year – knowing I wasn’t going to be there, all that type of stuff – and I was told to bench Tyrod Taylor, I’m like, there’s no way. I’m not doing it,” Ryan said. “So you might as well fire me now because I’m not doing it. And I thought it was the wrong move, it sent the wrong message to the locker room – we’re not going to play him because we’re out of it, but it’s OK to play you. How’s that guy going to feel? Well, they went out and got beat by the Jets’ JV team.” Whoever told him to bench Taylor last year remains a mystery but the outspoken Ryan questioned whether McDermott made the decision alone. “That situation right there, you know, did McDermott make the call or whatever, I have no idea. He certainly owned it, which he should one way or the other,” Ryan said, adding that he didn’t think the decision was made specific to the Bills’ opponent that week. “Tyrod Taylor’s a decent quarterback and you’re going to put in this other kid who clearly wasn’t ready to play? And now there’s talk that they may go back to him? Well, what?” This isn’t the first time Ryan has slammed Buffalo for starting Nathan Peterman and it may not be the last. or all the hate the giants are getting for benching eli and how the whole giants team is upset about it
Seriously? You're comparing the plays a guy who has played only four actual games and has gotten practice team reps for almost his entire career, against the number of snaps a 38 y/.o. vet got and saying that's fair? That "competition" was rigged by Bowles and/or Macc to either allow Hack to win it, or McCown, but NO WAY Petty. I'm not sure why they don't like him, but from watching him play I've seen far worse QBs starting for their teams.
i don't understand why you guys think the jets staff hate petty. if they did, he wouldn't be on the team. he just isn't good. everyone knows it outside a few people on this forum apparently
I don't understand why you have such faith in Bowles. If you consider how the TC went, Hack got every chance to take the job, and it was clear from the scraps that Petty got that McCown was the back up. Now, maybe they knew Petty was trash, but if so, they had to know this before the FA/draft periods, so why didn't they get a QB? That seems like malpractice to me. OTH, if they thought Petty was good enough, why didn't they give him more of chance to compete? And frankly, based on what I've seen I don't understand how anyone could say Petty is trash.
I don't get why so many here don't see that McCown is the reason this entire offense hasn't sucked as it was expected to, and that we've won some games and been competing in all others. Robby doesn't have the season he's having. Kearse woulda been just another wasted end of camp acquisition. He's been so much better than Fitz was last year, that I don't believe what I'm reading. We actually have a deep passing game. Now, you can disagree with a 38 year old playing rather than seeing the future, but it's obvious to me that we would be having a total crap year had Petty or Hack been playing. McCown might be keeping us from seeing more bad QB play from others, but don't discount what he's done to help some of our other players. McCowns been better than expected which is why the Jets have been better than expected, plain and simple.
I hope you are wearing your Herm Edwards jersey while you type this. Good teams know its about the franchise and not about the player or the single game. For the first time since I can remember, I approved of the Jets offseason move. Cut all the old players, go young, evaluate talent, see who they had - start building. Signing McCown was a terrible idea from the beginning. The only reasonable excuse was that Petty still wasn't healthy or that they wanted to give Petty and Hack a few more reps before putting them out there. Its far, far worse for us to go 6-10 with McCown starting every game then go 3-13 and evaluate for certain what we have with the players on our roster before we go forward. Its amazing that so many people are willing to defer to the judgement of Toilet Bowles when it comes to judging QB talent on the practice field with 2nd and 3rd string reps.
McCown was here to take a beating.... but we need to know if we are gonna keep 1 of the 2 qb's so Someone needs to get some play.....soon
He has certainly kept us from seeing a number 1-3 pick next season for sure. We are 4-7 and he has cost us 3 or 4 games with stupid mistakes, showing us why he has never really made it at any team in a long long career. Also let us not forget which qb showcased Robby's abilities firstly in preseason and then in his shitty 4 game spell. Another also is Petty was given some awful play calling by gaily. Nobody is saying Petty is the answer no more than Hack but we need to know before either acquiring a top FA or wasting a first rounder only for him to sit and stare from the bench.
"The New York Jets, We don't suck as much as you thought we would." New Jets slogan, thanks to McCown.. I'll go along with your first paragraph - it's pretty obvious, but what difference does it make? I don't agree that "we would be having a total crap year had Petty or Hack been playing." I don't necessarily disagree either, I just don't know, and since the better than expected performance from McCown has no benefit going forward, that's why he shouldn't be in there but should have already been replaced by one of the young guys to determine their value, if any.
Quality post , Loge. I think McCown has played well above expectations. Offence looks serviceable for the first time in quite a while. 13
who said i did? i could take him or leave him. I don't think he's great but he's not as bad as people make him out to be. but it's not just bowles. we have a whole coaching staff and front office and scouting staff all watching these players and others around the league. as far as not taking a QB there wasn't any to take. we played the board. maybe if trib fell to 6 we take him? nobody knows. maybe if adams didn't fall to 6 we traded down and grab mahomes or watson. nobody can say for sure we didn't have any plan to draft a QB it just didn't work out that way. when the top QB is off the board and the 2nd best player in the draft is out there at 6, you usually take him. as far as free agent QBs there were no good one's really. we did eventually grab mccown because petty and hack weren't cutting it. If petty or hack looked like a real QB by now, we wouldn't have bothered with mccown.
