Agreed. I fully expect Bowles will not start one of young QBs until we’re mathmatically eliminated. Which could be another 2-3 weeks of losses. Basically a quarter of the season (or less) we will get to see our young QBs.
I wouldn't either - but if we're going to go after cousins or draft a QB it should be in line with also addressing the problems with the o-line. I think you're right that we are at a disadvantage the way we operate our offense - we have no semblance of a hurry up offense and always seem to be scrambling to get plays off for some reason. Not sure if it's because the verbiage of the offense, but right now, I wouldn't want to invest 28 mil in cousins, or trade up for a QB unless we invested some draft capital and cap space into our line. Have to make sure our line is sturdy if we're going to have success. I'm curious about something though - why did Johnson look so much better last year under center, and this year he hasn't? Is it the change in the offensive scheme?
I don't think many Jets fans are applauding the team for keeping games close and being 4-7, I do think they are being applauded for actually being semi-competitive, which is far better than the majority expected. It's still a poor roster with Josh McCown at QB. Yes there are some young players who are developing nicely and McCown is better than anticipated, but he's still Josh McCown (and exactly what you say he is) and there's little, if any, top tier talent in its prime around him. The team is better than expected, much better maybe, and McCown is part of the reason. It's a baby step forward and its OK to applaud that, whilst still remembering that there's a lot of work still to do and that he's not the answer.
I can't understand whats so hard to comprehend about this, why screw up everyone elses development on offense, do people actually think Petty or Hack could be playing swell as McCown has.
If you're gonna mention Hundley playing better also mention Joe Haden Steelers #1 CB not playing last night at all
I have to believe if the Jets lose to KC this week, it's Petty time. Not that it matters to me because I believe no QB on the roster is a franchise player.
Let’s be fair though these are Bowles “guys” Exactly who’s development would we be screwing up?Shell?Mcguire? Well McGuire is only a part time player so that’s a wash.Stewart & Hanson riding the bench?? The main contributors of the offense are all veterans who in all likelihood arent here beyond next year.Kearse,Kerely,Forté,Powell,ASJ,Beachum,Winters,Carpenter.. So who’s development exactly is being screwed?? How bout this??The offense’s holistic development is being screwed up by continuing to trot out a 38 year old retread who offers nothing in the way of hope, excitement or future success. We’re forced to play this ridiculously flawed “play not to lose” philosophy which he can’t even execute cause despite the CS lovefest for him he STILLmakes costly mistakes. This season was supposed to be ABOUT development & turning over a new offensive leaf. How the hell does sending out Mccown w the same conservative mandate of the last 15 years change that?? I guess you guys want to “develop” a new age of playing not to lose, fold in big spots, limited on the boundary & situationally inept garbage we’ve seen forever.I guess if that’s what you want to develop Mccown is your guy!Why not resign him till he’s 45 while we’re at it.play like a Jet
No you don’t, unless you are arguing Hundley’s success last night was solely due to Pittsburgh missing a player and not a result of improved play tied to experience. The burden of proof is on you to validate such a claim. To support your argument you would need to show no QB has ever played well against Pittsburgh in Gabe’s that Joe Haden has played. But there is no way for someone who opposes your argument to actually prove Hundley’s success would have been the same regardless, so your argument is inherently logically flawed because it can’t be proven either way.
Who gives a shit about competitive football? The Jets were going nowhere with McCown at QB. Anyone who thought this team was going to the playoffs with McCown at QB and Bowles at HC is delusional. This was supposedly a rebuilding year, a year in which the Jets needed to develop their young players and find out who could help them going forward. I think your assessment that both Petty and Hack are horrible is utter BS. Hack may be horrible and never amount to anything, but I'm going to have to see Petty play and fail miserably when he has had a chance to practice with the starters, has a competent OC, and some talent around him before I believe he is nothing more than a backup. Petty should have been starting this year. Even if he failed, the Jets would know for certain that he isn't the answer, and they could have planned accordingly going into the offseason. Bowles obviously thought Petty was nothing at the beginning of TC, skewed the QB competition so Petty had no realistic chance to win, and Petty proved him wrong by playing as well as McCown and better than Hack. Petty just never got the chance with the starters.
It's utter nonsense to think that if Petty was playing it would screw up everyone else's development on offense. I can't believe some of the stupid BS I see on this site.
Bowles & Mac are on equal footing. They are supposed to be building the team together. Bowles has more than once made his allegiances for veteran QBs well known..both w Mccown & Fitzpatrick. It was reported the year they drafted Lee that Bowles said in the war room that he’d” win w a veteran behind center & his defense”. I see absolutely no evidence of either of them fixing this offense bc neither has ever shown even the slightest HINT of desire or urgency to build anything but an afterthought. I blame Bowles bc the young QBs he HAS in house he refuses to play even in the face of an awful roster & continues to push for defense despite every logical sensibility. Palantonio asked Bowles before this last draft if Bowles could have any player from the class who it’d be?He responded Jamal Adams.Really Todd? Not one of the QBs..an OL or even a skill player..?? A gm gets the players for the coach..this gets further exemplified by their equal footing in organization.I blame Bowles bc he has never voiced any need at all for QB or anything remotely offense. If you wanna blame MAC..fine both their asses can sign up for the want ads together.
Ah, stupid bs. Like “ they need to see what they have in player x” like coaches can’t watch a practice and see that a player can play or not. It’s entitled fans that think they have to see it before they believe it. Not sure where that entitlement has come from. Like “ it was suppose to be a rebuilding year” like coaches are not going to play the best option available to them Like “Bowles is coaching for an extension “ like everyone else in the world trying to do the best they can to stay employed but now that’s not a good thing Like “playing mccown does not offer any hope or excitement “ coaches do not care about hope and excitement, they care about winning. I am sure I will remember more.
I'm on board with letting Hack or Petty in and seeing how they do. Surely McCown has taught them SOMETHING over the past few months. Jets need to stop clinging to playoff possibilities. They have almost zero chance now, so they need to lose out and try to draft a QB. McCown doesn't help the cause. The Jets would have won yesterday and last week if not for a few badly timed mistakes. The team has hope, we just need to get that QB and draft a center.
I too am skeptical about their plan with the offense and this year will cement it for me in what they can/will do. I don’t see any other choice they have but to invest heavy this year. So we have some agreement there. I dont blame Bowles for not playing the kids right now. He has played a rookies and 2nd year players a lot. If he is not playing them it’s not a hard leap in logic to think they are not very good, at least not better than mccown, as sad as that is. I can’t get on board with the idea he should play them just because if they are not good enough. Bowles quote on Adams, eh, he was that good of a prospect and Bowles does not fill out the draft card so, whatever, that comment does move the needle either way for me.
I believe the Jets will win the next 2 weeks. (KC and Denver have both fallen apart) Then what? 6-7 record- Saints, Chargers, Pats left. Do we remain ignorantly thinking we have postseason chances and start McCown the rest of the way?
I honestly want Petty to play already i just want everyone to see how "great" he is I'm not saying the guy is horrible I'm just saying having the best players out there is better for the team. I know some of u clearly don't even care about that. All fans want is what they think is right and some think and forever will that they know best. Im just spewing out what the coaches have told me. What they have told us fans is that they want to win. Damn how u feel about it THEY want to win. And what THEY think is best for them is playing Josh McCown as our QB. WHY would they want to lose? What some of u will never understand is they don't care about our opinions because THEY are the ones getting up every morning trying to do the best that they can to WIN. SO Bryce aint playing y'all, Hack aint either and u know why its cause they're in the building everyday and not us and they have looked at them to determine whether they give us the best chance to win, so yeah its crazy that they think they know whats better for themselves than some of u do. They still think they have a shot and until were eliminated from the playoffs the number priority is winning games and not seeing whether Bryce or Hack are ready yet.
That is exactly what will happen. They will play McCown until they are mathematically eliminated. The issue I see is that McCown has single handedly lost the Jets several games. He has played decent but has made a bunch of boneheaded plays. He misses open receivers consistently and bails on the pocket early.
