Oh so you knew about Carson Wentz prior to the draft? Surely you did; prior to his senior year he was barely known. Just because the articles aren't out there and you don't see him in mock drafts doesn't mean he isn't a good QB prospect. You said scouts haven't heard of this guy, but I bet you scouts easily have an eye out for this guy. So no TDs means he's no Wentz, but Wentz only threw 17 tds his senior year, Stidham has 16 right now. They are very different QBs in terms of skillsets. This game probably helps his stock, he goes in the 2nd round. Definitely not better then Rosen or Lamar Jackson, but the kid has talent.
He's had plenty games like that this year as Auburn goes almost exclusively to the ground once they are in the red zone. He's going to be a hard evaluation for those that rely heavily on stats. It's ironic that his lack of TDs may be used as knock against him when we know that had he stayed in Baylor most would have likely thrown an absurd amount. Many would have discredited those TDs as inflated Air Raid stats.
He's "currently" not a better prospect than Rosen but I would not be surprised if he ended up being a better NFL QB. The only thing I will say about the Jackson comparison is that he is a safer prospect IMO, though not as talented.
Rosen has durability concerns and I think Stidham is an excellent decision maker. Rosen however his arm talent is amazing, can make any throw. Can do it side armed anyway possible. The bigger question is does Stidham stay at school. Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
I didn't get to see the game today, but even so, I think Stidham took a big step forward...when you lead your team to victory over heavyweights, or at least give them everything they can handle - as Watson did in his college career - that speaks volume about a QB's intangibles. I still don't rate him ahead of Rosen, but he making a strong case for consideration if they miss on Rosen.
Have to remember Wentz was injured his senior year and only played in 7 games, 17 pass TDs and 6 rush TDs in 7 games.
The bold implies that Rosen has better arm talent which I don't agree with. They both have excellent arm talent and throw the prettiest balls in the class with Stidham probably having the slightly stronger arm. What Rosen does have is a bigger set of cahunas. He takes chances, necessary at times, that Stidham quite frankly does not at this stage of their development. I think the great ones play with a level of confidence and/or swag, if you will, in their game which allow them to take those chances that can determine the outcome of games. Right now the biggest difference I see between my man Stidham and the Cali boys, besides the amount of games played, is that. From a talent standpoint he is just as good. This could be because Rosen/Darnold have played more games or Stidham is just simply a risk averse kind of QB, which is not the end of the world. Time will tell. Guys like Brady and Rodgers developed that later so it's not something a QB prospect must have coming in. Financially, it would probably benefit him to stay in school but developmentally speaking he should come out. That Auburn offense is stunting his growth.
I think Rosen is the clear #1. I like Mayfield at 2, Darnold at 3, Stidham at 4, and Falk at 5, with Allen coming in at 6.
Very impressive, goes to show how much I knew about Wentz. My whole point was about the Auburn QB not throwing for a td in the game really. I thought he played very good despite that. Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
I saw Luke Falk get destroyed last night..Stidham actually had a better game I want Darnold /Rosen PERIOD...my third would be Mayfield but too depressing to go there right now God willing we keep losing and other teams ahead of us start winning...this is the only way out of this 49 year old Twilight Zone imo IMO Bowles handicaps us going forward in so many ways!!..Agents for Dar and Rosen might tell them to stay in school if we manage a top pick because he is a terrible Coach.....Mac should see this writing on the wall and have a private conversation with Woody/waldo at seasons end to get a young creative guy in here like the Rams did with S McVeigh who is turning Goff into a winner...this would be a smart move to make Jet drive more attractive to a young kid
I think Rosen is just as accurate, he also has elite ball placement skills. I think Rosen has Stidham beat for now in that regard. Stidham does have the stronger arm. Rosen however can throw the ball in different positions. Rosen has excellent anticipation too. Experience I am sure plays a factor too. Rosen does whatever he wants on the field. Not saying Stidham doesn't have elite ball placement ability, but I just dont think I've seen that enough on a game by game basis. I think his decision making does play a role. Stidham very careful with the football. I think he's better at taking what the defense gives him in comparison to Rosen. Rosen does have more confidence in his arm. I just get this feeling, Stidham is the type that won't lose you games, but Rosen will win the ones that you got no shot at winning. Nowadays I think staying at school is detrimental to his development and needs to learn an NFL offense. Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
Sounds like Stidham is moving up the charts. Is it maybe time for his own sticky thread in the Draft forum [...cough...Mods...]?
What does a QB prospect have to do to get a sticky around here? In the span of 3 weeks, the man has taken down 2 undefeated SEC teams that were ranked #1 in the country at the time. Oh well off to the SEC championship game. I hope Mac is paying better attention than our mods.
Well, if he's as good as you believe (and I'm coming to agree with), it's better that he stay off the radar.
The folks that want a Darnold/Rosen I feel for you. I to would love the opportunity to draft them. Unfortunately I look at it this way..... IF the jets were picking first or even second overall and had the opportunity to draft one or the other would they ever in their right mind trade their pick? Most certainly not. There is a possibility the 49ers do attain one of those pics...the only problem if they do trade it there will likely be a bidding war and the amount of pics to get one of those players would be insane. Both teams realize how valuable those players are and will likely want 2 truckloads worth of pics to trade up. If you feel it's worth it to trade away extremely valuable pics for 2 years well I guess it works for you and that's if they even want to trade them. Let's just hope some other QB's raise their value as the draft nears ala Mitch Trubisky or one unexpectedly falls like Deshaun Watson. It almost always happens...like Aaron Rodgers.
Read my post in the 2018 QBs thread about this. But in short, if a GM believes a QB can be his FQB, then he has to disregard the value assigned by the "experts" and take that guy at his first opportunity. That's not to say, if a team already has a guy who is their starter, and they feel he can still lead them, that they don't draft a QB in a later round just in case - like the Cowboys did with Prescott. But if you need a FQB, and you've identified a guy who can be that guy, you have to act with conviction and take him and not risk letting him get taken by another team while you wait for him to fall to the right "value".
Totally get it...as I actually stated...if you feel unloading a ton of pics is warranted then you do what you gotta do. Just hope the 2 teams that hold those pics will even want to trade down when they hold the opportunity to draft FQB talent.
Yeah, that's the big problem. Like you, I don't believe anyone ahead of us will agree to trade down at any price, but if the opportunity presents itself, the Jets need to have the balls to grab it.
