Yeah I just give up. We’re not getting a top QB this year unless we trade up. At this point I think it’s best to hope we land Cousins or Smith because everyone on this forum all knows that we they’re going defense round 1.
It has. I mean we still got that patented wasted time out yesterday when we got a penalty - clock was stopped and Bowles proceeded to blow a timeout. I think if Bowles and Macc do stay on, it needs to be under the pretense that we hire a clock/timeout/challenge usage specialist because Bowles is awful in those terms. I will give praise where it's due and Bowles surely has this team playing better than we all anticipated. I will say that we commit way too many penalties, but I also think that has to do with how young the team is as a whole, how ticky tack the officiating has gotten. We have 7 more games, let's see how the team plays the rest of the way.
I don't feel the Jets drafting defense this year is a given despite the history and the kidding. Trading up is something I've always advocated to get a top QB. I never bought into the "tank" as means to get a top choice. So I'm happy the Jets are playing inspired football. If all the eligible QB's come out this year, there will be plenty of good ones to choose from throughout the draft. Right now, I think Baker Mayfield, OU, would be a great choice if the Jets end up in the middle of the pack and don't want to move up. I saw Rich Eisen on the Michael Kay show yesterday and was surprised to learn what a big Jet fan he is. Also surprised to hear him repeat many of the same things we fans have obsessed over the past year. Said the Jets should have drafted Watson, the Jets must draft a top collegiate QB in this coming draft. He is not for signing Cousins (or any other veteran.) He feels Cousins isn't talented enough to overcome the Belichick factor in NE. He predicted the Bills would beat the Jets, so he was wrong about that.
Bowles still makes some questionable decisions but most of the wasted TOs have been a result of plays not being called in time. Contribute that to a first time QC and a new playbook for all the players. It takes time to get on the same page. Sadly, a clock , timeout, challenge specialist doesn't really exist and Mac and Bowles will be here in 18 and possibly beyond. The penalties really have to be reduced , some of it is just being over matched, talent wise and trying to"cheat" a little. Still overall I have to give credit as I was quick to criticize. The games for the most part have been close, competitive and exciting. What more can we ask of a team that was supposed to be historically bad. The worst roster in League history according to the"experts".
I know you can't compare players from different eras; but the thought of drafting Barkley makes me nervous for one very Jet-centric reason. Another Penn State running back with a can't miss pedigree, we went down that road once before, Blair Thomas picked second overall. We passed on Emmitt Smith for him, and he was one of the biggest busts in NFL history.
To clarify my earlier thought, I was referring to not sniffing Barkley based on wherever we land in the draft. Trading up to get (what a FO believes is) a FQB i am all for. When we traded up for Sanchez, i was very happy. If you think it's your guy, you go get him ESPECIALLY at that position. Obviously that didn't work out in the long run, but you swing for the fences for the quarterback
Totally agree. Don't have a problem if they drafted Barkley, but I don't think a RB is a transformative player. A QB is, and that's what the Jets need right now. If they went defense (G-d forbid), it appears to me that CB is what's needed most, unless there's a can't miss pass rusher out there.
You can't, but that isn't to say that Barkley couldn't be as big a bust as Thomas and a dozen other hyped college running backs who were drafted too high and never did much in the NFL.
https://imgur.com/EoNxG8M If he brought those stats to our team, would that not transformative ? Some say this Barkley kid is all that and more, I wouldn't be dead against it but it all depends on which QB's are kicking about, a few of them are not looking as good as people thought, so maybe the QB draft class won't be as deep as first thought, of course the ability to pull a good one out in the later round does exist, Prescott, Brady, Wilson and Carr give some hope or maybe not lol I like the look of Maguire as our future RB but he isn't Elliot either, well not yet at least and signing Barkley would be making it a lot harder for him at the Jets. Decisions decisions eh
If you’re going to paralyze yourself with the fear of drafting a bust you might as well trade all your picks for veterans
I hear you, but I do think he needs to consider the past, and the length of time since they've had a great QB. No, that doesn't mean force it, but when you look at what Watson has done - and a damn shame he got hurt and done for the year! - and the can't miss ability of Mahomes, that really wasn't forcing it IMO. And I admit that I'm very impatient having waited decades for them to get back to what they were when I chose them as my team. I kick myself sometimes for not sticking with the Eagle (I was born outside of Philly and we moved to NY when I was 10). Sure, sometimes the "Iggles" suck, but they also find a way to reward their fans once in a while - look at this year for instance. Anyway, in my head I know you're probably right, but if being a fan was logical they'd call us "logs".
Even if the T.O.s were called due to the play not being called in time, so what? Eat the 5 yards...better than wasting a T.O. that you might need. And yes, Bowles seems to have them playing inspired ball, and his "D" game plan was great last night, BUT it was the Bills, visiting on a short week. And what happened to the offense in the last 10 minutes? Did the Bills just suddenly wake up on "D" or did Bowles take his foot off the pedal? I still don't like him, especially since he's still got Petty in Witness Protection, but if he and the team keep improving I really can't see them canning him. But let's see where things are at after all the games are played.
Don’t use “hope” & Brady in the same sentence unless it’s hoping for retirement,a sack or the worst canker sore ever lol I think RBs are going to make a major impact moving forward.Defenses have gotten too pass heavy w their scheme/personnel & the game has a funny way of coming full circle. While I think Saquon is a rare ball carrier, good running backs can be found in later rounds just like McGuire & Powell. Its more about a stable now than a feature back..while I wouldn’t object to Barkley I’d like to see him run some routes & catch the ball.I don’t doubt he has good hands but i want to see how formidable he is as a receiving treat..to me that’s the prerequisite to being a true blue chip 1st round back..not just catching the ball out of the backfield but being a legit route runner that can split out wide & cause mismatches downfield. If he does the combine we’ll be able to tell very quickly. Still prefer one of the QBs but Barkley is a legit playmaker who would give this offense a whole new dimension
Yep..but so many things happening with this schizoid team it's hard to predict..Cousins will be big bucks and a promise of a SB I suppose On the other hand If Bowles and Mac are smart they will draft SOME QB unless they want to keep JM on life support ad nauseum If they continue drafting D I am DONE with this stupid team..I hope people throw spitballs at MM
