This really would be pointless, so it probably happens.

I'm not even sure about the validity of pursuing Cousins as I can't see the team being ready to be competitive next year either, meaning he's 31 at least before the team can really challenge and at that age the window can start to shut fairly quickly. All this grand vision rebuild crap for a likely 2-3 year opportunity with a QB that is good but not great...

I am warming to the idea of Cousins though, mainly because I'm not sure the great QB draft is going to happen.

Now THIS would be a Jets type move. This would be astronomically worse than bringing in Cousins

This team is competitive this year with cousins. More experienced safeties, enunwa back, line gels and an upgrade or 2 only makes it better

And let’s not forget (if we sign Cousins) we will have, what? 40m in cap? Lots of young WRs we could go after - Landry, Davante Adams, Donte Moncrief on an incentive based deal.

Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Carson Wentz, Ben Roethlisberger, Russel Wilson, Matt Ryan, Derek Carr, Phillip Rivers.

Throw in some young guys like Prescott, Watson, Mariotta, Winston.
Consider some guys with more success like Cam Newton, Carson Palmer, Andy Dalton
Add in an injured Bridgewater and Luck.

Some of the names above may be a debate of whether or not they are clearly better than Cousins, but what is clear is that he is in no way a top 10 QB in this league.

This is from the top of my head, so I am sure I am probably missing 1 or 2.

Anyone that has a problem with Cousins is insane. I would rather have Cousins for the next 6 years than trade the farm for a QB that has at least a 50% chance to be worse than Cousins. If we are sitting with the top pick that is something different.

Damn that would be a great move. Cousins and the Notre Dame tackle. Cousins would be a great fit in this WCO style they are running anyway

  8. Guess I’m insane cause a 31 year old QBwho has never won a damn thing doesn’t impress me. I want excitement..I want a true new identity.Cousins doesn’t bring that. There maybe risk in a draft trade up but at least it’s a drastically new chapter.

In fact..if the team signs Cousins & goes OL/Defense in the draft I am done as a fan of this team. To me that isn’t change..it’s avoiding risk & falling into the same “good enough” trap of the last 25 years

I’d rather invest in the o line heavy than add more WRs.

He will fit in nicely with Jets plan of signing older JAG as their starting QBs.

Or mortgage the future with an asinine amount of draft picks for a question mark qb. If we were there at 1 or 2, fine. Take the qb. Trading up the house for a question mark at QB is as asinine as it would be to sign Brees or go after Eli Manning. Give me cousins for 5-6 years and spend those early draft picks on players to fill other areas.

Oh for sure. IMO - i Think Enunwa, Kearse, Anderson ASJ and Powell is plenty of weapons for a good QB to work with. I was just saying we could add a WR to make Cousins even if better for that group who is opposed to Cousins.

But with Cousins you know what you have, with the draft its a crap shoot. Rosen looks like he can be the real deal but we don't know for sure. Signing Cousins does not preclude the Jets from going ahead and addressing other needs through the draft and the cap space for 2019 is looking pretty good as well.

Jets can address a lot of holes but at the end of the day it all depends on how well we draft and who's coaching these players.

Cousins won't cure all our ills but it will sure as hell cure one big one.

Also, if we finish with the 5 or 6th overall pick and have to jump all the way up to 1 or 2 that would probably result in us giving up 3 1st round picks, which is very dicey. Overall, I agree if a team really wants a QB to go up and get him, but the jets also have a lot of holes to fill as you said and if you get rid of that much draft capital, you better hope you've got a FQB.

  14. You do realize you’re mortgaging the future just as much by signing Cousins bc he will Command a high salary, stunt the overall notion of a true roster rebuild & presumably take us out of the running for a true FRANCHISE QB in the draft. Do you say 5-6 years of Cousins tongue in cheek?

Hes a solid non elite 31 year old QB..what happens when he gets hurt again or starts losing the arm strength in 2 years?Still want a 35 year old beat up broken down QB starting Who was never elite to begin with?

Te trades away picks were just picks we’d spend on underachieving defense anyway..I’m all in on trading the farm for a true change not another polished turd

even more..wilkerson sure to be cut and we have 20m leftover from this year to carry over. we could be starting off with 100m. of course i don't trust these idiots for a second to spend it properly..just look at what they have done already in the few years they have been here.

If you have Cousins and he starts to suck down the road and your team sucks again, you still have your draft picks for the future. Trading up to grab Rosen or Allen and having them flop is a way worse situation because you will not have those picks. If you grab one of the young QBs and they are good, then what? We have a situation like Indy with a bunch of holes and no draft picks, but hey, at least we have a QB who we can watch get killed every week.

The team is young enough as it is. Signing Cousins does not stunt the growth of any single player on this roster.

It all comes down to whether or not you trust this staff and FO to develop a young QB. I like what we have in Morton, but I don't know about the rest of the staff developing a young QB.

Losing his arm strength in two years??? Really? Cousins will be only 32 years old in 2 years.

look around the league- Rivers, Roethlisberger, Stafford, Brees, Rodgers, Alex Smith, Matt Ryan... the league is filled with QBs in their 30s lighting it up every week but we shouldn't sign Cousins because he might be the ONE guy who's skills erode at age 32? huh?

Cousins isn't physically gifted anyway. He is successful because of his accuracy and ability to read defenses. Those type of guys play a long time. He isn't a one trick pony relying on his athleticism that will erode

Since this thread had unrelated to the Jets, Miami traded Ajayi to the Eagles for a 4th rounder.

Philly gearing up to make a deep run.

  19. Signing Cousins gives the perception that we are in win now mode which will destroy the rebuilding intitiative & youth movement currently in the building.instead we’ll go out and spend all our cap space on win now veterans..sound like a familiar narrative??

Do you think the rams miss the draft picks they gave up for Goff?Eagles w Wentz? I’m tired of trying to build a team on paper & im tired ofof having the mentality that a team can only be properly assembled w first round picks. You can’t consistently contend w.o a legit QB.If the price for a legit QB is picks so be it.Mac or whoever the gm is will have to earn their money by drafting well w.o a premium pick or recooperate by means of trading down.

Yes sure if Cousins doesn’t work out we’ll still have picks for later. But this is a broken record you see.Cause we’ll likely have to wait 5 stinking more years for another good QB class & they’ll be risk avoiders touting for whoever the hot shot veteranQB is available at that time so we can avoid risk & keep our draft picks yet AGAIn

If you wanna go the Cousins Route bc you don’t wanna take a risk..I get it..I just don’t agree w it by any stretch of the imagination.I want true change..not another get rich quick scheme.Rest assures though I’m sure the Johnson’s & Todd Bowles Are surely on your side of the debate

Why would you be done with this team after they signed a QB with the most promise signed in this franchise’s history? He’s been a starter for 3-4 years and made the playoffs in 2 of them.

The skins are largely incompetent. It’s not his fault to a degree. Just because a QB hasn’t won a Super Bowl you wouldn’t want him?
