I think i'm going to look at your posts since yesterday and count how many times you keep stating this over and over and over and over again.

WE KNOW it was two bad performances bro!

That was his 6th straight game of under 200 yards passing, he has about a 53% completion rate, 5 ypa, I think 5 TDs and 10 INTs. It's not just 2 bad games. I think statistically that makes him something like the 33rd ranked passer in that stretch. I'd have to get specifics but, why waste my time when the Pennington fans will just ignore the facts anyway, as they always do. The only rookies doing statistically worse are Walter and VY, but both their teams suck, and VY makes plays with his legs and still wins somehow.

which comes back to the same fundamental question: how can the head coach sit other players who don't play well, like coleman and blaylock, yet ducky gets a free pass? i'm surprised that none of the beat writers has mentioned that bit of mangini hypocricy yet.

Replacing a quarterback is much different than replacing a running back or a DB... replacing a QB is a much bigger deal. A QB is the catalyst of the team. If a running back makes a mistake he loses a few yards. When a QB makes a mistake it can change the game. Throwing a rookie QB in there would be horrible for this team, especially against the bears. Clemens would have gotten destroyed.

By the way, Joe Medwick died a long time ago. Furthermore, he was a baseball player.

7 of your posts since last night have re-iterated that Chad has had QB ratings of 21.1 and 42.8, we understand bro.

Look i'm not defending his play, jesus christ man, get it through your skull. He has played HORRIBLE, and if he has another bad game against Houston, then i'd be all for looking at Kellen Clemens.

Jeez how many times do I have to say that?

**** that, even if he has a bad game, I want him to finish the season at this point. I'm so sick of this bs, I don't even care anymore.

What BS? You're the one trying to call me out as a "Pennington fan who will just ignore the facts."

I have ignored NOTHING. His decisions have been awful, his passes sputtering, his playaction non-existant, etc. etc.

Now, if you want him to finish the season if he has a bad game, that is your perogative, I have no problem with that.

All i'm saying is, if Chad has another, let's say 12/31 180 yards and 2 INTs in a 17-7 loss to Houston. Then I would definately like to see Clemens in there, as most others would.

wow this thread is getting pretty out of control....

I dont see what the big deal is, other then a bunch of Anti Pennington's trying to prove a point that he should be taken out and benched in favor of Kellen Clemens who is a "rookie"

and Mr NY Jet...we all know your stance on Penny, we all know you hate his guts, we all know you hate his "noodle" of an arm...we all get that...with this said i think i speak for at least 3/4 of tgg when I say "Shut the hell up!"

on the other hand some say chad should continue to play, at least since we have a chance to win and possible be a playoff team

REGARDLESS, i feel that Pennington should be the starter, because lets face it, he most likely will be the QB of our team next year as well...Clemens wont see his PT this year, it will be next year if Penny struggles....

THE REASON???--> Clemens isnt a 1st round talent ala Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer, Ben Rothelisberger who can stand the fire of being thrown out there young...not to mention two of the three of those teams had no talent whatsoever at QB, so they had no choice but to go with Manning....and Palmer...Clemens needs to laern from teh sideline first, pick up some things from chad, learn the system, understand his role, and be a student of the game, let him marinate with knowledge of how the QB role is expected to be played when he steps out on the field, then throw him in the fire...

that is why you wont see Clemens this season...regardless of Mangini's rule of playing the best players....i dont think it includes the QB position, especially if Pennington is keeping this team afloat

oh yea FYI- his numbers havent exactly been gaudy, but hes not throwing the fall nearly as much...not to mention we are all human, and that goes for QB's who are sometimes throw INT's...if we all shit on QB's after they have a bad day, Tom Brady wouldnt be able to find his way out of the dumpage that should be dropped on him for his sub-par performances against Indy and the Jets

What is the point of benching him after 1 bad game so late in the season? It'll be too late to get Clemens any substantive experience, and we'd still be in a playoff hunt. We won't be mathematically eliminated until either a 7th loss or the final week of the season, and that means we'd need to lose two more games with only 6 weeks left in the season for that. So unless Pennington bombs the very next 2 games, there is no point in even bothering with a switch because of performance.

Pennington has been one of the worst starting QBs in the NFL for the past 6 weeks, so it's not like there wasn't adequate time to make a replacement back then. IMO it's extremely hypocritical to give a guy a pass for 6 weeks and then just randomly decide that 1 game decides it. On the year he's definitely within the bottom 10 in terms of starting QBs. People always want to point to Pennington's record and say that justifies keeping him, but Vick and Plummer have better records and they face a ton of criticism. I'm not saying you're one of those people, but anyone that thinks Schaub or Cutler should start has no room to say Clemens shouldn't be given a shot.

As for DaJets: you don't invest a 2nd round pick on someone you don't want as a starter, and you expect them to contribute sometime in the first year. It doesn't matter where you were drafted in terms of the talent you have. Brady was a 6th rounder, Joe Montana was a 3rd rounder. It's what you do with your career that determines your talent level. Clemens was widely considered one of the best QBs in this draft, with a few people picking him as either the best or second best. Just because Leinart and Young got all the hype and are starting now does not mean that Cutler and Clemens don't wind up being the better players.

Frankly I don't want him learning from Pennington anyway. Pennington and Clemens are not the same type of player. Clemens needs to know that while he can learn some things from Pennington, he shouldn't step in and emulate his game. Pennington is a stop gap game manager, he's not a franchise QB. He's basically the posterchild for a backup QB having one decent season and then robbing a stupid franchise of a ton of money. It would be like if the Chiefs turned around and gave Huard $64M, but they're not that stupid. If Kurt Warner, a 2 time Super Bowl MVP can be benched and replaced while performing better than Pennington, Clemens should definitely be given a shot at least next year. Btw, the guy that replaced Warner the first time? He was a 6th round pick (and yes, he played 7 games that season, so he wasn't sitting there just learning, and it was a complex offense, probably the most complex in the NFL).

Great post. We all know Pennington had a bad game yesterday and has struggled lately. It just amazes me that people who call themselves knowledgeable fans jump right away to say bench the QB when the team loses a game. The Jets are still in the hunt. If Pennington continues to stink over the next few games and the Jets drop out of the race, then Clemens deserves a look. But if the Jets continue to win and Pennington plays well, he will finish the season as the starter and rightfully so.

Then there will be another QB battle in camp next year. We all know Mangini is going to play the QB that has the best chance to lead the team to a win. If Clemens or Ramsey are better than Pennington in camp in 2007, they will win the job. It wasn't even close this year and that is why Pennington is the QB.

While Pennington has been shaky lately, let's remember one thing - he is playing when 95% of people thought he would never play again.

As for the game - some people need to go see their eye doctor. Pennington was a reason for the loss, but not the only reason.

To those that say the defense played well, what about the 173 yards rushing they gave up???? If that is playing well, then this must be college football in the 1970's and we must have played Nebraska. And the missed tackle by Coleman was the biggest play of the game and the biggest mistake. If Pennington throws the ball away on the first interception, the Jets kick a FG. The Coleman whiff led to the only 7 points of the game.

And while Pennington deserves criticism, some other "big" time players seem to skate by. Why no outcry to bench Ellis. He makes twice the money Pennington does but he has been invisible for 26 games now. Two sacks against Manning and one hit at the end of the Pats game do not earn that big fat contract he got. Why no outcry to bench him???????

The D played great the biggest play of the game was the Urlacher INT followed by the INT in Chicago territory in the second half. When you blitz and look for turnovers constently teams are going to run the ball and make a play or two. In spite of that the D held their own all day. If the O scores at all the need to force turnovers on D and leave guys maned up on the outside goes down. Chicago punted 8 times, the Jets dominated in TOP, that means they didn't convert on third in Jet territory all game. That is exactly what an NFL D playing at a high level does.

We still have a reasonable chance to make the post season and people want to throw Clemens in,..thats moronic and any Jet fan with sense knows that..Hey Chad has to be more consistent we can SEE that, but with no Chad you got NO shot to make the post season..Thats the goal you know the post season not a high draft pick..We are ten games in and 2% of you thought that was possible and in week 12 we are still competing for a playoff spot and Chad is a huge part of the reason..replace Chad..get real!!

You are kidding right? A cornerback or the starting QB...no difference there? Bench the player that handles the ball on every play, or the guy that may no be forced to make a play all game....think about it....they're 2 entirely different decisions...not even comparable.

Yeah he did them in Cleveland too....missing guys, sailing passes....but other times he makes them perfectly....Mangini had a point when he said Chad also made some good plays that got us into a good position as well...but the thing is, thats his job, and its his job not to overthrow guys and not to throw pics too...

You're wasting your time winston, that guy is absolutely blind in his devotion to Chad. The D could shut the other team out, and the offense lose with a safety, and I'm sure he'd still find some way to blame the D. God knows you can't blame Pennington.

Let's examine that for a minute. If Pennington throws the first interception away, the Jets kick a FG. If Pennington doesn't make the throw for the second interception but instead takes the sack, the Jets have the ball on the Bear 45 yard line with third and forever. At best, you are looking at 3 points, but probably none. Then a CB that fails to make a simple tackle on a five yard pass that leads to 7 points. Pennington's two mistakes = 3 points for the Jets. Coleman's = 7 points for the Bears. I think the missed tackle hurt more, but of course its far more fun to say replace the QB.

On the INT Chad made a bad read it not only shouldn't have been in INT, it should have been an easy 7. The read and the throw into coverage and locking on to 1 reciever were rookie mistakes. Coles was wide open single covered on the other side. Now even if you get 3 instead of 7, it changes the entire game. No onside kick, no need to blitz on every play to try and create a turnover and no need to leave a rookie CB singled up with no safety help. Let's ignore the fact that we couldn't score on O so we took risks to score on D and on special teams, it helps your argument that the fault was a rookie CB singled up missing a tackle instead of the fault of a veteran QB making a rookie play twice that cost us points.
