Now I wouldn't say that exactly, Morneau was the biggest part of their offense as the Twins began their charge, Mauer was fading as the catcher position started catching up to him, and while Santana was huge to their success, he was there once every 5 days, Dye had Thome and Konerko, Ortiz's team crashed and burned similar to the titanic, and that started when Manny acted up, and Jeter, well Jeter had by far the best lineup in the AL behind him even without Matsui and Sheffield, and another point is if you want to bring up Santana, is that Wang is just as if not bigger to the Yankees than the Twins with Santana, at least the Twins had Liriano for a while to back him up, the Yanks had 2 fading pitchers in Mussina and Johnson
Actually if you were just going by stats Morneau wouldn't be the guy either. Puzzling choice to say the least.
If fans voted than you'd have the same exact names would win it every year regardless of how they actually did, I still remember Mauer being voted like 5th for allstar catcher when he was by far the best catcher at the break, or Griffey being voted in one year with like 9 HRs at the break, like you said it would be the worst thing to happen in baseball
The writers screwed it up again, last year giving it to ARod over Grape Ape and this year robbing Jeter. One idiotic writer had jeter 6th!

I can almost guarantee that a NY writer did not gove ARod a vote, that sounds to be like more Yankee hating trying to stick ot the Yanks and yankee fans for the fair treatment ARod got this year.
I'd bet that some of those votes came from writers who filled out a straight Yankee ballot. Otherwise, please explain how Damon, Giambi, Cano, and others got votes.
Well, look at all the names that got sporatic votes between 6th and 10th place. They had better years than most of the other players below them.
Damon was one of the best leadoff hitters in the AL, if not the league, this year. (No, I did not say he might have been the best, so don't start that one.) Giambi was talked about for the MVP for more than half the year. When it became apparent that Jeter was going to be in the running for the batting title until the end, that's when Giambi's case was thrown out. As far as Cano, if Morneau gets the award for a late season shot of adrenaline, then I would think the #3 hitter in the league, who came back from an extended DL trip, would deserve some mention. I honestly doubt most of those guys got any votes from NY writers. I'm sure Jeter did, but I don't think the whole team did. While the ones above can be justified, I would have to agree with something along the lines junc said. A vote for ARod was just some clown out there being a smartass.
I had Morneau in a fantasy league. When Boof Bonser got called up I added him and dropped Morneau. That is right when Morneau heated up and the Twins took off. Seems to me there is nothing wrong with Morneau receiving the award. Maybe Pujols didn't win because the writers remembered that fake steroid injury he had. A guy who does something like that shouldn't be an MVP.
It's funny how nobody is mentioning how weak this 2006 AL MVP group was. In 1987 Wade Boggs hit .363 (.461 OBP) with 24 home runs and 89 RBI, with 200 hits (40 doubles) and 108 runs scored. Boggs finished 9th in MVP balloting. When you have a weak class like this anything can happen. And by the way if Jeter couldn't win it this year he'll never win it.
