You want garappolo but not cousins? Garapollo hasn’t done shit but sit behind the goat, just like mallets, hoyer, cassell who haven’t done shit. But that’s why you are giving don a run for his title. If we can pay cousins we do it. This offense looks functional with freaking mccown, it could be a juggernaut with a good qb.
Except we have no clue what criteria Bowles even has that would qualify either of them as deserving to start over McCown. Their not starting could be more of an indictment of Bowles than either of them.
Juggernaut is pushing it, maybe above average. We dont have any special WR or RB TE has been a nice surprise, but ASJ is no Gronk
4 — you need an innovative offensive head coach to develop your QB. Jared Goff is a prime example how the wrong coach can fuck up your QB, and how the right coach can salvage him. Bowles believes Fitzpatrick and McCown are much safer QB options to stake his career to as opposed to even attempting to develop a QB. Anyone with that judgement shouldn’t be allowed near the next young QB we bring in.
The thing that puzzles me is how can a man build his career on 4-5 win seasons? What's Bowles expecting? Isn't he afraid that maybe the Jets head honchos will see he's selfish and fire him for refusing to improve the team? Isn't he afraid other teams will refuse to hire him because he's nothing but a lazy man relying on mediocre vets? If he wants a future in this league, he needs to prove that he can develop players and build teams. Or, at least, if he's defensive minded he needs to prove that he knows how to delegate power to the right people who will develop players. No one expects him to develop QBs, but he at least needs to stand out of the way and let the young guys play instead of barring the way with some washed out vet.
Maybe they understand that Bowles' hand is trash, and realize Petty/Hack are not good cards on the inside? Maybe Bowles and the FO actually communicate about it all? Maybe Bowles actually isn't doing anything that any other HC wouldn't do in his right fucking mind with the QB's he's been dealt? Maybe they all actually understand that all the QB's suck and will sign a Cousins and draft a fucking QB?
Then both Bowles and the FO are imbeciles. McCown is a career loser, like Fitzpatrick. Nothing is accomplished by playing him — no long term chemistry is developed for the offense, you don’t develop a potential long term solution, and you lose. What is the benefit of playing him and winning 5 games? Do you think any of the players on the Jets rejoiced when he was signed and said “now we have a reason to show up on Sunday with McCown leading the way. Thought it was hopeless if we had to wait for Petty to learn the game and only win 4 games maybe, but we are good for 5 now with McCown. That’s s season to be pumped for!”
jet rebuilds are measured in decades not years......me thinks the mexican wall will be finished before this current jet rebuild edition. LOL.
You mean Mac, right? If they had an idea that Petty/Hack weren't ready, or even not the answer, they'd be deemed even bigger idiots for not signing a veteran. Who should they have signed? If they didn't sign a veteran I could just imagine how the fans would be screaming how much that showed how stupid they were. I could just imagine this board if they went with Petty/Hack and and not only were they losing games but everyone around them suffered also. The OL, the WR's, the D, the kicking game, etc.. If those guys couldn't play and the whole thing collapsed they would be doing an injustice to the rest of men they're asking to lay their asses on the line for them. No one knows outside of that team what Petty/Hack are. Time will tell that. Maybe that's actually an indictment of Petty/Hack and Mac tho? But I'll say this is reminiscent of the play Simms, Bollinger, McElroy cries with Petty
What would a player have to show that cements the opinion that they aren’t ready? Jared Goff was being ridiculed as one of the worst picks in history last year. Peyton Manning was an INT machine his rookie year. Playing poorly over a short period of time doesn’t indicate that the player can’t play. It’s just harder to justify benching a player when they are drafted in the first round than fourth. The only way to determine Petty can’t actuslky play is by playing him, which they haven’t done. Nothing about Bowles or Mac screams to me that they can see the future and know what he can do. Playing QB is simply a position that requires experience. It’s a cop out to not give him the experience and then argue they see something in him that deems him not ready. That’s nonsense. All it means is that they don’t want to take the pains of developing a 4th round pick. Unless he was throwing 3 TD’s and 300 hundred years a game out the gate they didn’t want to give a 4th round QB the experience to get better.
Absolutely right and it's unbelievable how many people here just don't get it. In the past 10 years we have had great OLs at times and great DLs at times and even great DBs and what did it get us? They are all gone and we still suck and will continue to suck forever until we get a franchise QB to build around. This guy gets it. http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york-j...martin-on-jets-loss-in-miami-a-game-of-groans
Yes he is I would say he is very good. If the Jets were to sign him say for 5 years you are getting his prime years 29-34 years old......what you would want to avoid is the over 35 years....surround him with high draft picks - we already have a pretty decent nucleus on D just need a pass rush and a CB. Remember Tannabaum did the exact opposite...he put together a veteran team with a rookie QB and came up a tad short. I say they try it the other way around this time...... Of course they COULD luck out and find a decent QB in the draft. That would be the direction a team would want to go...I just don't see them drafting in the top 5 and who knows what it would cost to move up. They have ALOT of needs....at least with Cousins you know what you have.
Those are two number one picks tho. Those are blue chip top QB prospects. Petty wasn't remotely close to those guys coming out. Petty's been around three years now, and it was obvious that he wasn't close in the beginning. He's been with Gailey and Morton. I have a hard time believing that they are missing anything with him. But I'm hoping that there's still a chance, even with Hack. It's possible that they still have hope they both have a chance and thought they needed more time while the team's being structured. Either that, or they truly believe the neither are good and they're making plans for a different look altogether next year. If they went with McCown next year then it would be obvious they're crazy. But they tried, they drafted two guys. The idea going in was to keep trying til you get it right. How about sign Cousins and draft another? I'm not buying they wouldn't play Petty if they thought he could carry them into the future, or that they're missing a basic principle for the sake of some sort of blind faith in MCown. Can you imagine how Bowles felt and now feels about that INT? And what it means in the future? There's no way he would want to go down with McCown if there was a better option. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. That's what he gets for not being more conservative too. The very thing a whole contingent of fans were moaning about that was proof he was a bad HC.
