Good post as usual. Bottom-line is that no one on this board is cutting Chad any slack. He has only played 16 games the past two years...of which he was playing at least 4 of those with his injured shoulder in 2004. He has had two shoulder surgeries the past two years and is playing about average. Is this better or worse than what to expect? NO ONE KNOWS FOR SURE...because there is absolutely no track record for recovery for this type of injury, no less having this surgery twice. So, people can complain about Chad all they want. However, the guy is coming back from 2 major surgeries, has had minimal work the past 2 years and I am sure his arm is tired. Give him the benefit of the doubt the rest of year and a "normal" off-season to recover and train before you put a stake in him. There simply isn't enough information at this point to claim the guy is "finished" or "washed up." Does that mean you sign the guy to a long-term extension? Absolutely not. I fully expect the Jets to retain his services for another year and allow the off-season and pre-season progress of Penny, Ramsey and Clemens determine what direction they are going. My gut says the Penny has the remainder of this year and the first 8 games next year to prove himself. If not, Clemens or Ramsey will be starting by week 8 or 9 next year.
I agree with you Klecko. We also have to keep in mind that none of us expected him to have as good of a start as he did which like it does for any Jets player, coach or team only hurts them because it builds expectation. On top of that we forget that he had a pretty damn good game against NE. Nothing fancy but he managed the game very well and led the team to victory as a QB should. I think Chad deserves to finish off the season too and then next year you see if Clemens can take the reigns from him. The only thing truly holding Chad back is his own mind. He just thinks too damn much at times and the injuries have only made that worse because it almost forces you to think of ways to compensate.
That is precisely what I'm talking about. By any objective standard, that was not a "pretty good" game. The defense and Barlow won that game, but everyone is busy crediting Chad for just not fucking up. For most QBs, that is not considered a good game. That would have been a below average game. Since when is 168 yards and 1 TD 1 INT, 5.1 ypa a good game? Most QBs lose their job for that type of performance if that's what they AVERAGE over a season, but here it's considered an example of a GOOD game? That means you'd accept a worse performance as the average. If he AVERAGED that in a season he'd have something like 2700 yards 16 TD 16 INT. That's not even a good season, but since that's a "good" game he'd be expected to usually "average" worse, so the stats couldn't even be that good. I agree he should finish out the season though. I disagree that he should even be given a chance next year, we need to move on. The Chargers didn't even give Brees a chance, they just gave the job to Rivers, even though Brees has been a lot better than Pennington. Either we see what Clemens has or find another way to go.
Good Post Serphnx! I find it funny how most of the Chad supporters will accept Chad being Mediocre against bad teams and Horrible against good ones. He has not done anything to win a game against a decent team all year.
I'm sorry but...Blah Blah Blah. Every, and I mean every fan on this site just wants this team to frickin' win already. We just all seem to have diff. opinions as to which way would be the best way to do it. ie the whole bench Chad or let him play, whatever. I have my opinions as do the rest of you but good Lord already I wish this team would just get it over with and win. We have the same discussions year in and year out and as far as I can tell there has not been one fan who has gotten the whole JET mess figured out. The JETS haven't figured it out. I want a title. Period. Sorry for the babble.
