browsed over some threads this AM and some folks are definitely not taking your medications...... forget the bench chad, lack of faith in the new regime, blaming the HC/OC, poor gameplan and all that non-sense. Would you rather have the cluster phuck of edwards and hackett here instead????? yesterday we witnessed a very good defense with a mistake free offense of the bears - something the jets hope to be in a year or 2. grossman is not a better QB than CP HOWEVER he is surrounded by very good talent at very key spots on offense AND has the defense. it allows him to pick his spots in the passing game and let it fly. his receivers are pretty good and as a whole they are at least as good as the jets receivers, if not a shade better. the big difference is that grossman takes plenty of chances cause he has a good arm, is mobile, and lets his receivers make plays.... that type of QB play is a good fit for a team with a potentially lights out defense.... i have posted several times in the last few years that the jets need to surround a healthy CP with certain weapons both on offense and defense. yesterday we saw the mirror image of that in the bears. Can the jets ultimately win with CP at the helm ----- probably not -----but the bears built the team while grossman was out with several injuries so if the jets can improve the roster that much in he next year or 2, who knows. so, no need to fret too much guys. we have a budding oline and some good young guys in several other spots. i am sure we will be close to this style of football in a year or 2. and yes CP had a terrible game yesterday and with better QB play who knows but we all know the limitations of CP and there is no sense getting crazy about it now and blaming everyone. patience.... jil
You know, had these same people been told 3 weeks ago that were going to split with the Pats and Bears, they would have creamed thier pants. Same thing had they been told in AUgust that we would be 5-5 going into this part of the season.
Jil, how long have we been preaching patience man? Since the start of the season maybe? Some folks just want it now and when it doesn't happen, the emotional rollercoaster goes into overdrive..
Very, very good post. I hope a lot of people take a moment to read this and calm down. I think it gets to the point very clearly
Chad has as many weapons as grossman. the one are the Jets lack is a Thomas Jones type feature back but we have a good group of Rbs and we have excellent WRs. Chi's D is better than ours and we made some mistakes w/ coaching decisions, playcalling and Chad made some bad throws and bad decisions throwing it.
also that defense is head and shoulders above anyone elses in the nfl even though they got crushed by miami they havent given up 300 yards of total offense to any one. that's incredible im not surprised chad played bad every qb that plays that team has bad games. chad had guys in his face alot that maked people rush throws like he did and jsut like groosman did the jets were in his face all game to. we made 2 mistakes they didnt that the difference in the ball game
Good summary. I sure wasn't happy with the game and was not a fan of the onsides kick but personally I've never been one to bash the HC because of individual mistakes. Right now the D seems to be playing better and if the offense gets back on track we could be OK. Plus we're a bit ahead of where most of us expecting we might be and hopefully the FO will have learned a thing or two from their mistakes this year.
Actually, a lot of people here had us losing both games, and weren't even given a chance to win. Then after we beat the Pats, some of those same people were predicting we'd beat the Bears. Now we lost to the Bears and the expectations change again. One week we suck, and the next week we're going to the playoffs. Then we lose and we suck again. If we win, it's back in. You gotta love it
If you told someone before the Bears game that we'd hold them scoreless in the first half while driving to 1st and goal, and holding them to 10 points total in the game, I'm pretty sure most Jets fans would have expected to win the game. If you can't even expect your offense to score 10 points there is a problem. This is why we play the games, rather than just forfeit before the game. When you're in position to win, you have to win these games in the NFL. The difference in talent is so small that a bad team can come out of nowhere and win the Super Bowl one year, and the "best" team in the NFL can get knocked out of the playoffs every single year. If we score that TD early in the game, we don't even bother going for that onside kick. On that stupid INT in the second half, if we drive a little further and even just kick a FG, with a 10 point lead, we might have just won ourselves the game. The Bears start having to pass at that point, and with the pressure we get on Grossman he probably makes a stupid mistake, and suddenly it's 17-0, and from there it just snowballs. The difference between a blowout win and a pitiful loss could have been just those two plays. And our QB was entirely at fault for both of them. Do you really think it so wrong to criticise the QB?
I never even mentioned the QB in my post so I'm not sure what you mean by that. It's perfectly fine to criticize the QB. Hell, I'm a pretty big fan of Chad but even I can admit when he has a bad game and he definitely played like crap on Sunday. I just never get too high after a win and I never get too low after a loss, so I've already moved on.
The problem here in NY is, "patience" to a New Yorker means you bring in a new coaching staff after going 4-12, you make a few draft selections and then you're going to the playoffs, right? Hey, what do you mean, we're not going to the Superbowl this year! Screw that, THIS TEAM SUCKS! And that's the way it goes, year in and year out.
It's no secret that I've always been a big fan of Chad. It becomes pretty obvious the games that he will struggle in; you can usually tell it by the middle of the second drive. What frustrates me, as well as probably everybody else (including Chad), is that you never can tell when that game will occur. If he had had one of his "up" games yesterday, the Jets would have had a shot at winning. If he had his game yesterday against the Pats, the Jets would have lost. It will be so much easier to breathe when the Jets get the running game going, so that when Chad has an off day, the team still has a shot in picking up the slack. Until the running game gets fixed, as Chad goes, the Jets go.
ironically, I think the same people who back in the summer pegged us for a 4 win season, are the ones who get the most upset with close losses like this one, the first PATs game and the Colts game. They get caught up in the moment, and say to hell with it! This is a winabble game, and the players (and coach this time) dropped the ball.
I have seen enough progress this year to feel good about our situation. Oddly enough, it seems our weakest position at this point is QB, which is rather surprising. Even with yesterdays loss, I feel very good about this team and the future. Squeaking into the playoffs is even a possibity this year. It'll be a one and done, but what a confidence booster going into next season...
I agree. Chad made some poor throws at critical moments that killed us, but Coleman's missed tackle hurt just as badly. TBTF
It's hard to blame coleman for what happened there. He's still young and has been a fairly consistent tackler the entire year, or atleast since he's been starting.
When you have a noodle arm at QB, rather than blame him for failing to score a point, you should blame the defense for allowing a point. Only Jets fans would demand a defense that allow no points all year. The rest of the league, even the Ravens and Broncos, choose to blame the QB and replace him.
1. Jets RB corps as good as Bears RB corps? That tops the joke-of-the-day. 2. Cotchery is virtually a rookie. *Thank the coach you hold onto so dearly for the under-development.* 3. Jets OL is doing better job than EXPECTED, not doing better job than most of other premier OL corps. All in all, why don't you just start rooting for KC? I heard everything is fantastic in KC land.
I would say that it speaks volumes that we are all disappointed with this result, as has been mentioned before we are 5-5, when most people would have put us down for no more than a 4 win season. The fact that i was annoyed at losing to the 9-1 Bears heartens me for the future. The three way running back scheme, whilst not ideal has started to work in recent weeks and eventually I would expect Washington to get more play time. WR's we have a strong bunch who are consistantly coming up with big time catches, unfortunatley with Pennies arm strength the big yards don't come. Nothing more to be said about the O-Line other than watch out AFC East, as I can see them becoming the dominant force in the NFL over the next 4/5 years. Defensively we played a solid game and if it wasnt for the slip we could have still had a shot at the game in the last couple of minutes. Bad decision on the onside kick, definately, but if it had come off, we would all talk of genious at work We are over achieving at the moment, but its looking good for a proper run next season and i wouldn't be suprised if we didn't win the East next year.
yes I will go root for KC, good one! you have 200 posts in 4 yars and this is the best you can come up w/?
