McGuire has looked good since camp. The thing to be encouraged about is that the negatives in his draft reports look to be exaggerated or at least due to the injury he had his last year in college which he is obviously over.
McGuire looks pretty good and brings hope of scoring an RB late in the draft.

Neither did the other poster, he said Davis ran through big gaps all his career and all the way to his HOF berth, not once did he say Mcguire was like Davis.

It was reported he had accelerated pass 21 MPH on the run, which was reported as the FASTED in the league for last week. before you tell people to "Pump your breaks" maybe you ought to check the facts.

I'm not crowning him, but why can't we be excited about a young Jets player who has potential?

We envy the chiefs because they have a good young RB in Kareem Hunt, 3rd round pick, the Bears have a good young RB in Howard 5th round pick 2016.

Jet fans wanted Fournette, Cook, Mixon, they drafted Elijah and if given the chance I bet this kid will be just as productive as the players jet fans coveted, or players that were selected in later rounds and are producing for their teams.

I give both facets credit, the line for their blocking and Elijah for doing his job.

He's looked promising since he got here. It's fun to see a young kid like that bringing it on too. It's not just about that one run. Yeah, and he fumbled, once. In garbage time on a strip from behind. C'mon man.

Forte has one foot out the door towards a broadcasting career. He should be the third back, or at least be a rotation guy. Maybe a team making a run towards the end of the season could use him and then you trade him if you can.

that's honestly a useless stat as it requires a RB to be in the open field with room to accelerate. not every RB gets that opportunity to do so every week. It would be more interesting to compare his speed to other RBs who broke off runs just as big in the past few seasons. not just 1 week.

to be fair fournette is a beast and cook was killing it before the injury. Mixon hasn't done shit (and is an asshole) I never wanted him. I do like maguire as a consolation prize though. it stings a bit less watching how good maye and adams are as well

It's not just RBs though, it's all ballhandlers. Punt returns, kick returns, receptions, carries. It's not a stat that you should be putting in the binder when you're presenting your case for Elijah McGuire, but it certainly does back up what the eye test results told us. Well, at least what it old most of us. Some of us think Shonn Greene was taking that run to the house as well.

Maybe you missed the part where he jukes Barry Church in the hole?

Lmao Forte takes that to the house.

even at that, how many other plays gave someone the opportunity to run 50+ yards untouched this week? I'm not saying he doens't have speed for a RB i'm just saying that stat would mean a lot more if ti wasn't just "this week" but compared with other RBs on big TD runs

who was the last Jets RB that could do that and take it to the house?

I honestly can't remember us having a RB who could actually beat his man and still have the juice to not get caught from behind.

He is running THROUGH the same holes that Forte is allowing to be closed due to his inability to hit the holes with speed and force. A game or two doesn't make I an HOF'ER...as fans we just hope what we see is consistent. If he can play like that every week he has the potential to be a HOF'ER.

I'm just gonna be blunt here.

I find it funny how someone can attempt to calm the enthusiasm of a fan base with famous quotes such as "pump the breaks" while acting as if we're all (only) excited about "one 60+ yard TD run".

That couldn't be further from the truth.

From day one there were off-season and training camp whispers of a late round draft pick named Elijah McGuire showing signs of life.

Most of us all read those reports. I myself even started watching highlights and game film on the kid from his Louisiana–Lafayette days and as a fan of the game i walked away impressed.

And trust me. There were plenty of film to watch too. The kid rushed for 4,301+ yards off of 710 carries (6.1 yards per rush attempt) and 42 rushing TD's during his 4 year career. Another 130 recptions for 1,394 receiving yards off an average of 10.7 yards per reception with 10 TD receptions. One wouldn't know without doing a little research that McGuire earned Sunbelt Freshman of the year (2013) and Sunbelt Player of the year (2014).

Small conference or not. Making plays. Making cuts on the dime. Scoring TD's etc none of this is new to Elijah McGuire. He's been running the rock for a long time. Since a kid. But now he's running the football on a higher level. And he can play.

And once came the preseason? Instead of reading training camp reports about Elijah? As a fan base we all had a chance to watch him live. And against backups or not; we all seen flashes of RB ability during preseason play out of this kid. He showed up, performed and impressed many.

That led up to Sunday. Forte out. Powell has a chance to finally start. And a no named late rounder had a chance to compete as a backup for the 1st time come week 4. And Elijah flourished.

You see. The excitement for McGuire has been leading up to his 60+ yard TD run. It was built up. This current excitement you see now is from fans that's pulled for the kid since day one.

With all of that said this kid had one hell of a game and even outside of his TD run he also had two receptions for 38 receiving yards against a freakishly athletically talented Jaguars defense. Catching out of the backfield isn't anything new for him either. Now he's just catching on a higher level.

Even leading up to Jacksonville's game against both Oakland (6/29) & Miami (7/34) Elijah ran the ball 13 times for 63 yards (4.8 average yards per carry).

So no. Fans aren't excited over "one TD run". We're excited to see his progress from TC to where he's at now. It's called a journey and some fans just don't follow it. I, as well as many of others do.

Maybe you should follow the journey before telling us to "pump breaks" because he just balled out against a talented defense while Forte was hurt. And many of us read about him in training camp, wanted to see a lot more of Elijah after his preseason showing and erupted as fans after he made the most of his week 4 opportunity.

I'm waiting for Morton to break ArDarius Stewart out somehow when the time is right, slip him in there. Looks like a big play waiting to happen

I can't tell you how or why, but ArDarius Stewart passes the BEAST eye-test when I see him play. I think he'll break a long Kick Return and possibly even break a couple tackles on YAC soon enough.
