That with a couple more wins the Jets will be screwing themselves. The tank/quasi rebuild will go down in flames. How pathetic if McCown fines his mojo with the Jets when they are trying to lose. One more win by him and he would equal his win total for the past 2 year. Now you got Ray Lucas and I don't even know who the other guy is on SNY raving about him. Darnold is out of the picture. Rosen is playing better now anyway and his demeanor might fit better in New York anyway. But if the Jets squeak out 2-3 more wins he will be out of reach too. Then you would have to believe they would not fire Bowels or Macc and they will be back trying to force feed Hackenberg on everyone. So is the big picture blown up? Or do they attempt another tank job next year with Hoyer and no big free agent signings?
Darnold is definitely not having a good year so far (other than the game against Stanford, and even in that one he had 2 INTs), so it will be interesting to see how far he falls if this continues. People are wondering if he won't come out to avoid the Jets, but if he has a bad year he might not come out to try to rehabilitate his reputation.
Draft is loaded with a bunch of good QB prospects...Also we have an extra 2nd rounder and will have tons of cap space. It's not just Darnold or bust, people need to realize that We obviously need a long term solution at QB but the team needed a rebuild regardless.....which is now happening as young players with a possible future gain experience Not going to stress over wins, and wouldn't mind seeing the team play some meaningful football late in the season....If we suck as expected, in the end it will all work out as long as we have smart people making the decisions (Tough to say so far with this regime) Not going to stress over things out of my control anymore when it comes to the Jets....once you get over that you'll feel much better
All that shows me, if we somehow win more games than expected this year, is that we underrated the staff, scouts, and talent we have. That just means we're on our way to being a quality franchise and can comfortably put our trust in the guys running things
Yeah he got beat by Washington St. Their QB Falk is pretty good also. Has thrown for over 4000 yards the last 2 seasons. He's only got 1 interception this year. This QB class might be something special.
Browns, Bengals, Chargers, Giants, 49ers, all sit currently on 0/3 obviously the Browns and the Bengals can't both end 0/16 though. Bears 1/3 Then we have 6 teams 1/2 Fuck me at this rate we could have a real shitty season and still be picking in the middle of the draft next year, what an absolute nightmare scenario.
don't worry guys.....while darnold is definitely going to be near the top in 2018 or 2019, there are other qb's that can work for the jets. rosen and falk no doubt. i don't like the throws they are asking darnold to make. USC line is in flux and they are asking the QB to make long NFL style sideline throws which the defenders are jumping. he has all the tools and when he gets to the NFL he will flourish as long as its with a team that knows what they are doing
I would rather win and be able to attract free agents. It's not like we are going to pick the right guy anyway. The Chiefs will be getting rid of Alex Smith, who isn't amazing but is insanely ahead of any QB we have ever had in my lifetime (I'm almost 50 years old), and Cousins will be available. I've watched some of these college QB's and none have been impressive so far. I'd rather build up our O-line and go get an experienced QB. If we draft one of these kids it will be 3 years until we are ready. I feel like the QB's who drafted a little lower last year (Mahomes, Watson) might be better than the ones drafted higher.
We are not winning so fast and the Niners and Browns could start winning more ...you don't know All we can control is our own destiny ....we can go ahead and have some team improvement but continue to lose games which is best possible scenario imo The QB is a great class..and there are OL as well..not happy with Sam D ? get Rosen or someone else BUT FOR GOODNESS SAKE GET SOMEONE GOOD
I posted on another thread about a sports writer reviewing yesterday's game who thought Darnold's arm strength was overrated. If the defenders are jumping the sideline routes then that's a bad sign his opinion might be valid. Long sideline throws are a must in the NFL, especially late in the game. That was Chad Pennington's downfall, he couldn't make that throw either.
Tanking, I'm so sick of that word. Does anyone really think that some young kid who's hungry and determined to make the team and stay there is gonna say hey, let me not try on purpose? It's ludicrous. It's not in me to hope the Jets lose, and there's no guarantee that even with a godawful record that Darnold, or Rosen, for that matter, will even declare. <== Most likely will, but I've been saying that all along. There are also too many variables, and people sound like even if the Jets finish out 1-15 - which they aren't - Darnold won't go, mmm, nah, I've decided to broaden my educational horizons after all. The law of Jets averages also tell me that even if the Jets were to get Darnold, he'd magically turn into Heath Leaf. Ryan Shuler? One of those guys. It's not inconceivable for the Jets to go 4-12 or even 5-11. If anyone thinks that the Jets kissed the canvas on purpose the first two games, dream on.
Wow, another thread complaining about how if the Jets win it will ruin the rebuild and set back the franchise, if we're lucky we will see about 78 more of these by the time the season ends.
I fully concur the Jets should be targeting a QB depending where we draft. I'm also incensed that we are not playing the youngsters now to find out what we have in house. Like I said a million times before we will be in exactly the same boat in 2018 new QB or not unless we figure out a way to validate Petty and Hack, starter, back up or out? There are no guarantees that we will be in a position to get a top knotch QB. Darnold IMO will not be close to the 1st QB chosen any way. He is playing behind a much better team with USC and doing less than Rosen and others surrounded by lesser talent. His ratio of TDs to picks is alarming to me, and he will really have to change his approach to be successful in the NFL. This draft is also full of great OL talent with a couple of studs at LT. That could be another avenue if we fail at selecting a QB. There is also a super stud at RB in the mix. I personally don't care how many wins we get, but I want meaningful wins, with either Petty or Hack at the helm. McCown wins will leave us wondering once again what the fuck are we going to have behind center in 2018 and beyond.
Tanking, as I understand it and think most members agree, applies to the FO, not the players or coaches. When you purge your team of veteran players and do nothing in the off-season to improve a very poor offense despite many opportunities to do so, that's a pretty obvious sign the FO is trying to position themselves for a top draft choice, in other words: tanking.
