I saw part of his game this past Saturday. The announcers said that he was on the verge of breaking several Washington and Pac-12 records, including TDs, but he didn't look all that impressive to me and I don't think his arm is strong enough for the Jets and the NE winter weather.
Chad Pennington's arm wasn't strong enough either, but his accuracy made up for it, which happens to be a strength for Falk. And imo after watching him for 3 seasons now, he does have above average arm strength when he needs to use it. As a Cougar fan, I wasn't expecting a huge season for Falk this year. He lost his top two WR's (Gabe Marks and River Craycraft), and that has definitely showed in both games so far. The current crop of WR's have very minimal game experience, so his numbers won't be as good as they were in the past. The O line failed him against Boise State. They were only rushing 4 and were getting pressure all night. Most of his passes were check downs to RB's. He also took a huge shot and was not the same after, becoming very indecisive, hence the benching. But the guy is tough. Only thing I don't like about him -- and it's not his fault-- is the lack of snaps under center. It is a Mike Leach offense after all.
Yes, Chad's arm wasn't strong enough, and it was ultimately his and the Jets' offense downfall. The NFL has changed since then too. I loved Chad, but never want to see a QB with an arm like his on the Jets again. College accuracy is one thing. As we've seen, a number of QBs who had very good completion percentages in college have failed in the NFL. Particularly in the Northeast in the winter, a QB almost has to have a strong arm. If Montana, Rice and Walsh were with the Jets or Bills instead of the Niners, I'm not sure that they'd have won nearly as many games as they did.
Started checking my tv and didn't see anything at 4:30, then I noticed the HST. Set it to record so I have something to watch tomorrow morning.
It's been a year since I've seen a Falk game. But I'm tuned in to watch Darnold. I really liked him when I watched him last year, let's see what's up.
Yes. I'll give him credit. For an air raid quarterback he sure does use his eyes a lot and seem to go through pro style progressions. I'm also extremely critical of air raid quarterbacks. But I'm shocked at how many different ways he looks on any given play. Much more so than Mason Rudolph whom is basically a one step and throw. Not sure he has the NFL arm that Rudoloh has though. Also correct, he folds when someone's in his face and has taken some big hits so far. I wish we could combine a couple of these quarterbacks lol.
Yeah, Falk starting to heat up. I understand why people like him for sure. I like this kid way more then Rudolph. I think both have average arms. He took a big hit just now and made a big completion. Hahah yeah tell me about it, give me Jackson's legs and elusiveness, Josh Allen's arm and Darnold's decision making
