    Well, lets think about it.

    HTML:
    AFC playoff standings
    Team W L T Div Conf
    1. Indianapolis 9 1 0 3-0 7-0
    2. Baltimore 8 2 0 2-0 5-1
    3. San Diego 8 2 0 2-1 6-2
    4. New England 7 3 0 4-1 5-3
    5. Denver 7 3 0 3-1 7-2
    6. Kansas City 6 4 0 2-1 2-4
    7. Jacksonville 5 4 0 1-3 3-3
    8. Cincinnati 5 5 0 2-1 3-3
    9. N.Y. Jets 5 5 0 3-1 4-4

We're on the outside looking in right now and Jax has a tiebreaker over us.

Six games are left against decent-to-weak opponents. I think we'll beat Houston, Buffalo, Oakland, and maybe Minnesota on the road. 9-7 won't be good enough, and 10-6 might not even.

And to make matters worse there is definitely something wrong with Chad. I don't know if he's hurt or what, but we can't keep trotting him out there like this. I say start Clemens and lets look toward '07.

I voted yes, at least for another week. Judging by what we've seen from Jets QB's this year, Pennington gives us the best chance to make the playoffs.

My problem is that I don't believe that the Jets are a legitiamate SB contender this year. I think you'd be hard pressed to find people that would disagree. We are a team on the rise, but we've had very erratic QB play, and many would agree that it cost us the Bears game.

Not that Clemens would have done any better, but in my opinion Chad Pennington is not the future of this franchise. He's not getting any younger, his arm was never great to begin with, and he's no longer as accurate a passer and as good a decision maker as he once was. He could play lights out for the rest of the year and I still woulden't think he's the long term solution.

Of course he should be the starter - we need to get every win we can this year to build confidence.

That doesn't mean I'm not hoping we start Clemens or someone else next year, who can actually throw downfield. I love Chad, but even before the surgeries other teams had figured out how to defense him - and he has to play a perfect game to beat really good teams.

If the Jets hope to compete for a Super Bowl, we need to change QB's in 2007.

one bad throw alio? did you watch the game? great play by urlacher?.....Im assuming by one bad throw youre talking about the INT to vasher(I think it was him)....how bout the 10 passes that sailed over everyones head....or the one he short hopped to cotch because the blitz was coming and he shit his pants? he had as bad a game as a QB could have and youre calling it one bad throw? as far as urlacher, gimme two weeks to get into a little bit of shape and I make that pick. He stared at the receiver the whole play. not to mention Coles was having an iced tea he was so open. If I told you Chad was a republican would you give him a poorer grade for yesterday?

They haven't even allowed him to throw once with all the trick plays he's been in on! That right there will tell you everything you need to know about Smith's future as a QB. He will not ever be the starting QB unless the 3 other QBs are injured!

Chad should start, no doubt about it.

Anybody ever going to give the Bears D credit?

Bears D definetly deserves some credit but we did move the ball on them. If not for a couple complete mental breakdowns from our QB we are beating the Bears yesterday.

Well that wasn't really the issue yesterday. The Bears played half assed.

Until we are eliminated from playoff contention -- Chad is the starter. The Jets are one game out of the playoffs at this point. Check back in three weeks -- if the jets are 5-8 -- start whoever you want.

I agree Chad cost us the game, which is bad. But he did play bad against the best D in football in my opinion.

Yes, we moved the ball on them and that made not scoring hurt even more.

If Chad has another putrid game against Houston, then Clemens should strongly be considered for the starting job...

Until then, Pennington should remain the starter.

God these threads suck today. Yes, Chad should and will continue to be our starting QB. We played against the best defense in the league. We are a young developing team. Chad really didn't play that bad either. I thought he managed the game pretty well other than missing coles in the endzone and throwing 2 pics. It wasn't his best performance, but be realistic and let's move on!

Look i'm a pretty big Penny fan, but he didn't play that bad?

You're right...He played WORSE. His INTs were mind-boggling! He missed open receivers on the sidelines, sailed a couple passes...

I mean come on, he played as bad as you can play from the QB standpoint.

Playoffs or no playoffs, Chad will continue to be the starter. It's the best thing for the entire team right now. As Green Guy said, winning builds confidence, and the best chance we have at that is with #10.

No he can't throw, but his leadership and efficiency with the no-huddle will greatly benefit this team in the long run - especially the rookies on the OL.

5-11 with Clemens would destroy all the progress made by Mangini this year. Be patient. Get through this season and then make decisions in the off season. If the wheels come off the cart down the road then we can get Clemens some playing time.

Exactly, but when the wheels have officially come off is the real question. Some say 5-8, 5-7 and whatnot. I believe if we lose this week Clemens should get some time the following. Mangini has us going in a good direction, and has the team playing with a ton of confidence, but at what point do you start to plan for next year?

Playing for a one and done to have the media consider your first year a success might not be in the teams best interest. Letting CP play out the string could hurt us if Mangini makes the switch at the beginning of next season. Who could honostly say that if they knew KC was going to be the starter next year they would not want him playing now so we can have a little playoff run?

It's hard to speculate without really seeing Clemens play some downs, but if CP continues to play at this level, we'll be out of the playoff race as fast as we got into it. At that point I would like to believe that Mangini will make the switch.

There was a shot on TV that showed Chad rolling out , and you can see Chad looking in one direction the whole time , no head movement at all.To really understand exactly how bad his decision to throw was , Urlacher is in the same shot , untouched staring and also rolling the same way as Chad , but he still threw it in there. For a QB of his stature especially in the redzone it was an amazingly bad call.

I dunno man, I voted yes he should stay the starter for this year. I wanted Clemens to start the year, because this was going to be a rebuild year anyway. Now everyone keeps bringing up playoffs, etc.....

People need to get a grip. The Jets are a 5-5 team. They are at 5-5 because that's what they are: middle of the pack. Everyone knows if you pressure Pennington he makes mistakes more often than not.

Some people around here need to face some hard facts. The #1 hard fact is that Chads shoulder is done. I hate to admit it myself, byt after watching his passes the last two weeks, I'm convinced of it. He's through. Against slower defenses he can make up for it to a point, but against the faster ones, he cannot get it done.
