Somebody please tell me again why McCown is starting? We are 0-2 with a porous defense and a bunch of young guys yet we trot a JAG QB that will not likely be on the roster next year. This makes no sense to me. Are we still trying to win or are we afraid one of the young guys will look good?
the positive side of me thinks that we are using McCown whilst the line gets up to a point that it is serviceable and will not kill our QB ( other than McCown ) also he know how to read the assignments so may be able to avoid the danger. Then a few games in we bring in Petty. But the negative side of me just thinks Bowles is rubbish and does not know what he is doing. And will be gone next season and has not realized it yet.
that pretty much sums it up. even if they draft another qb, we need ol, lb, cb also. let petty be #1, like denver does with simien. a real open competition, with results dictating who stays, who gets cut, who is #1,2,3 on the depth chart. i also favor using the #3 qb as holder for the fg kicker. gives the fake fg play a real possibility. plus, in the event the starter gets hurt during a game, you still have two other guys who can play that position.
I've been evaluating Petty as our future QB. The first thing I did was watch Hackenberg play. I'd never actually seen a football game before I did this. Then I watched Petty. I've heard about Brady and Rodgers. Petty is like a mix of those 2, only way better. I'm sure of it. Plus Bowles is handling it just right keeping him on the bench. When you've got someone this good you can't risk starting him, what if he gets injured?
