How does this happen in the middle of the season? How can you lose the mojo with your receivers having played with them for 10 weeks!? Doesn't make any sense to me.
When has brees done it against top 5 D's? He had a chance at home in his only playoff game and couldn't get it done.
My point was in the yardage and not the picks- Pennington doesn't have the arm strength to get the ball downfield that often and consistently during the season. And seeing as how you're comparing Apples to Oranges, if you had to choose, based upon performance to date, who do you want, Brees or Chad?
I could not disagree with the title of this thread more. I will admit that Chad had a really bad game yesterday. His decsion making was horrible, but I think that this is an overreaction to an admittedly bad perfromance.
His kicker didn't bail him out if you remember...the guy missed a 30 some yard FG. That kick goes through thats a playoff win for Brees.
Lupica in todays Daily News Pennington did that in the first half when he had a chance to give the Jets a 7-0 lead, at a time when seven points would have felt like a basketball score the way the game was going. Pennington had his team down by the Bears' end zone and it was here that he took a shot at Chris Baker, who looked open. Looked open. Wasn't. Because Brian Urlacher, one of the great players in the sport, was looking at Pennington, reading him the way people read the Sunday crossword in the Times.
I find it funny that Lupica mentioned the sunday crossword puzzle in the NY Times and not his own newspaper, the Daily Snooze...
if you also remmebr our K missed a 33 yd FG early int he game AND we had the game won until a roughing the passer call gave Brees another shot and the FG Kaeding missed was 40 yards. Brees had mopre than enough chances to beat us, he couldn't do it.
It might have something to do w/ this: Since Chad's 1st start against KC in 2002 the Jets are 5 games over .500 when Chad starts and 8 games UNDER .500 when Chad does not start.
I thouight Chad's pass execution was suspect yesterday. I also thought that, at times, he looked like a deer in the headlights, ala the later years of Kenny O.
Hey maybe it's just me, but being .500 doesn't mean that much. It's like saying, eh, we're getting by, let's be complacent. It's the equivalent of running a marathon in 8 hours- I finished, right? So that should be good enough.... The fact that there is a dropoff when Chad is not playing doesn't speak volumes, but just points out the obvious that a big-game QB is still a glaring need for this team, as is qualified depth. Sorry, I'll say it again- Chad will NOT bring this team to the SB, even if you put a top tier RB behind him. Everyone says that you need alot of talent around Chad to make him succeed, what exactly does that mean? Does that make the equivalent of a fantasy draft in Madden '07 where you land names like Moss, Owens, Harrison, Tomlinson, Gates, throw in some Ray Lewis, Urlacher, Freehy, etc etc??? A top QB should be able to excel and adapt to what he has around him. Chad can't.....
Guys, In my opinion, Chad is the single difference between being 5-5 and possibly 2-8 or 3-7. The guy is a good QB. Arm strength would be about 4th on my list of important attributes in a QB. First would be intelligence, followed by, toughness, leadership, and then arm strength. How many QB's have you seen with rifle arms and 10 cent heads. Chad didn't have his best game yesterday but I can almost guarantee that a rookie QB would've been minced meat against that Bears D. The Jets defense is improving but it still has a lot of room for improvement and the offense just doesn't have a lot of playmakers. Without Chad, what's the difference between Buffalo and the Jets? Think about that. How about if Losman was QB'ing for Gang Green or worse, what if you had Joey Harrington or someone like Aaron Brooks or Kyle Boller?
Also keep in mind that with the incentives he will acheive this year he will be a near 10M hit towards the cap. The question is is he even worth that type hit vs his contribution?
I agree Chad is better than 38 year old off of a crippling injury Vinny Testeverde, He is also better than Brooks Bolinger. The Jets were also 2 and 1 with a stoned on crack Quincy Carter. I think what Chad has done this year is remarkable. He has come back from 2Severe shoulder injuries and proved that he is a capable back up QB in the NFL. After 11 games he is clearly not a top 15 NFL QB, and the direction he is going in suggests that he may be a bottom 5 NFL QB. He has a QB rating that puts him at 22, He is tied for 16th in TD's, 20th in YPA, Tied for 26th in INT's and 26th in INT %. Chad is a smart guy but he is no longer that accurate when you consider he is now ranked 14 in completion % throwing essentially 5 yard passes. If he can't protect the ball and be super accurate in the short passing game, he's only benifit is his ability to run the O. At what point is managing the game but being a liability in the position aspects that are required going to be enough to make a change? I don't think the time has come yet on this season, but there is no way in hell that I sign Chad to a long term deal, or tie up any more than back up money on him going forward. At 6 or 7 losses it's time to see what we have in Clemens.
I wouldn't be opposed to sitting Chad a game, resting the arm a bit for the stretch drive but our options are Ramsey who at best is average and Clemens who isn't ready to play in the NFL yet. Chad is THE biggest reason we are 5-5, w/o him we have 2 maybe 3 wins. I think we stick w/ him through the good and the bad.
