This play call is one of the reasons why I am losing faith in Bowles. I was screaming at the TV for them to go for it
We'd have lost either way but are we trying to tank or is Bowles just that god damn stupid ? Has anyone asked him or our brilliant GM?
The coaches don't ever coach to lose. Their jobs are consistently on the line. The tanking is done by the front office stripping down the roster. So to answer your question, yes, he is that stupid.
The biggest part of making a decision is keeping it to a 1 possession game. IOW, Where you'd stand with Time when and If the other team scores. You keep it to a 1 possession game no matter what. Missing the 2pt. and giving up the TD made it a 2 possession game Kicking the XP and it would have still been a 1P game after the Bills TD. You can't win if you don't have enough possessions// e.g. You get a FG (21-16) and with the xtra possession have a chance to win with a TD or 2 more possessions and 2FG get you a W JETS had 4 possessions in the 4th Quarter. ....and put up 0 points in the 4th Quarter. Kick the XP and had at least a chance to tie with a TD with one of those possessions. I think Bowles felt he wanted to keep momentum going if we got 2, and it was still 14-12 att. He thought we'd stop them only thing I can think of in his defense. Fact is, they did get 4 possessions...they still had enough time to win. ZERO POINTS. JM .152£
The 4th q punt is the reason I'm tired of defensive minded coaches. Especially the ones that can't deliver, ie our past 2 coaches at least. Instead of being offensively aggressive, and showing your team you believe, they always think they can "pin them down and hold them on defense" Buh-buh-buh-bullshit. While we all know the offense is a dumpster fire, that's the very reason to go for it. It's either a win-win or a lose-lose. Makes no difference. What happens if/when they have personnel to win and bowles shows his mangina, yet again, and they miss the playoffs or something? It's literally capable of ruining yet another season, in a long line of ruined seasons. It's now clearly indicated that bowles is either a fucking moron or a coward. I'm going with both. Keeping it to a 1 possession game is misleading because if we scored we'd still have to go for 2. And there's no reason to think we'd have been more likely to convert the second time than the first.
I don't really care about being mislead, I care about having the best chance of winning through basic logical thinking. Nothing special...just logic. aamof, mislead me all the fuk they want....just win the damn game.
Ray Lucas hit the nail on the head in the post game,,,if Bowels does not go for 2 in that situation (btw the play looked like it was never practiced but I stray )it was tooooo early to go for 2 ,,,at games end we are only 1 score down and this idiot Bowels could attemptt to justify his stupid decision, instead there is zero excuse punting down 9.
You don't go for 2 when you don't need to go for 2. You don't punt down nine with 4:00 left. You don't throw passes from the one yard line on 2nd and 3rd down. You don't fake a QB competition when you already have your mind made up that McCown will be the starter. I really wanted to believe all the glowing reviews about what a great football man Todd Bowles is ... but I would love to know what "geniuses" like Charlie Casserle were looking at. This man is probably the worst head coach in the league, and easily the worst head coach we've had since Kotite.
I can't believe the idiot went for two AND punted down 9. You only get one of those mistakes. Something about the Bills really brings the stupid out of him. Nov. 12th, 2015. Jets down 22-10. Go for it on 4th & 2 at the Buffalo 20 with stupid ass Brandon Marshall screen against damn near press coverage (1 step receiver turns and catches the ball type of screen). 12 minutes left in the game. So now we score a touchdown instead of kicking the field goal. Score is 22-17. Drive down to the Buffalo 7 yard line and again now HAVE to go for it on 4th down and dial up their BEST play to score to the immortal Kellen Davis who spins around the wrong way like a ballerina and falls down. Incomplete. Then we abruptly watch Revis get torched by Sammy Watkins (as he always has) to seal the win for Buffalo. You kick the field goal to go down 22-13. Score the touchdown and kick the easy 20 yard field goal to win the game. Everyone in the stadium knew going for it was the wrong decision. When that happens, you know there's something wrong. 23 year old drunk Christina in section 314 who got her dad's season tickets for the week to take her gal pals to the game knew we should've kicked that fucking field goal. You punt with 4 mins left down 9. Force a 3 & out after 3 plays call all three timeouts. They punt the ball back to our 20. 3:30 left. We now have to go 80 yards in let's say 2:30 minutes. 1:00 minute left in a perfect world. You now need the onside kick. I can't even begin to understand the logic. Unless Mac radioed down and told Bowles to boot the ball away. "We need the tiebreaker in the draft against these guys, Todd."
He did it last year in Pittsburgh too Bowles is just flat out dumb. Ever wonder what it would look like if Geno Smith coached the team? We're seeing it.
I didn't see the game (thankfully!), but you don't need to have seen it to know that punting with 9 minutes left in that situation to know how clueless it was. Bowles has absolutely NO understanding of offense as evidenced by this latest blunder, the latest in an unbroken string of offensive blunders. It should be abundantly clear to even casual fans that Bowles needs to go, but Woody won;t do it because it will be an admission that he's f'ed up yet again. I soooooooo wish he would sell the team to someone who actually understands how to build a winning franchise!
Yes, they asked him. Here was his reply: http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2017/09/jets_todd_bowles_explains_punting_blunder_vs_bills.html In other words, he completely dismisses the possibility that they could have made the first down, and ignores that even if the defense had stopped Buffalo the Jets would have less time on the clock and would need to drive down the field, score, execute a successful onside kick, and then score again, with at least one of those scores being a touchdown, all with no time outs and an offense completely without quick-strike capabilities. So yes, he really is that stupid.
Punt, schmunt, whatever. The final score was 21-12, which of course made me think of Rush. I freaking hate Rush, and it only made me madder because speaking of Rush, Geddy Lee could probably have rushed for more yards than the Jets did today all by himself. Oh, and Geddy Lee is 60 something years old and skinny as hell.
Yeah bummer I'm using tapatalk and it mixes a bunch of boards together. Unfortunately I didn't see that thread Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Yeah man it's the dc ego thing. I built this d and we will stop the....aw crap they didn't stop them. At least an offensive minded coach going for it can possibly score points, which is the #1 objective Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
