Our OL is atrocious. We cannot run it, and McCown may not last 4 gamesbehind the "protection". We need help there drastically. Other teams castoffs might start in some positions on our line

It may depend on where they are positioned in the 1st round. He may need that pick to move up to get the QB they covet.

Sad to see the one guy who actually looked like he gave a shit out there go, but I can't criticize the move in context. Now when he has a couple of great seasons out there, watch the Jets overpay to bring him back as a free agent.

Jets have how many picks in the first 3 rounds for 2018 draft? 5?

IMO, it was a good move/ trade, nota great one just yet. Let's see who happens with this #2 pick.

We're getting a little ahead of ourselves between Allen or Darnold... Things will change in 7 months when Draft 2018 picks start. Let's see what players are there....

Just know that if you think this trade was dumb and the Jets made the wrong decision, you are agreeing with Manish.

Shhhhhh.....there could be other QB's emerging that may rise as the college season progresses. This is going to be a deep class. Manning just had a camp that included QB Tanner Lee......he's transferring to Nebraska. Well, there goes college football's best kept secret. :p

Not a problem, NC. I'm a lawyer so I guess I am used to being somewhat unclear. Always appreciate your insight on this message board.

With all due respect, I don't think the trade was made "in an effort to intentionally make your team weaker." I think it was made because Richardson wasn't in their plans for the future so they wanted to get something in return for him, and not just see him walk as a FA following the season and then get nothing for him because they signed several FAs. We all know the Jets are going to sign FAs next offseason, so they were never going to get a comp pick for him. But let's say for a moment they did, at best, it would have been a bottom of the 3rd round pick, and maybe lower. As it is, they get a 2nd round pick for him, plus a proven player, so that's better.

As for why he didn't fit into their plans, there are three good reasons. One, he doesn't have the character they're looking for in their players. The Jets are tired of the circus surrounding the team and off field issues. That's justification alone for the trade. They have a young team that they want to shape and mold in a certain way. Sheldon didn't fit that mold. He would have been a rotten apple in the barrel, that could have undermined what they were trying to accomplish.

Two, Sheldon's also all about getting big money, just like Revis was, except he doesn't deserve it as much as Revis did. The Jets want to get rid of that attitude. They want an attitude like the Patriots, where the players put what's best for the team over their own personal enrichment.

Three, Sheldon didn't fit into their plans because the DL is not the most important unit in a base or hybrid 3-4 D alignment, and it would have been foolish to tie up a huge amount of the cap on the DL, especially when only 2 of them can be on the field at the same time and play his natural position.

IMO while you have a valid logic/sentiment/perspective in not wanting to trade a proven player for an unproven draft pick, the above logic trumps your logic. Not trading a player for a draft pick because of our draft history is not even logical. It's hysterical fan thought.

4 picks in the 1st 3 rounds, only added the 2nd for Sheldon

They have an extra 2nd and 5th so far next draft

Who the Jets pick is irrelevant imo since that's not part of the trade itself. That's another, separate issue imo. IMO this was a great trade.

They got the best for Richardson they could, which was also better than anyone here thought they could get (a 2nd round pick), and got a pretty good player to boot who can help the team. They got something for him rather than seeing him walk at the end of the season and getting nothing in return.

They got rid of his (Richardson's) immature character, risk of his getting suspended, and mouth, his negative influence in the locker room, his comments being a constant worry in the media. It was addition by subtraction.

They got a solid veteran WR (who's better than I initially thought) to help shore up their WR corps.

    They got additional cap space.

They have 4 picks in the first 3 rounds. Only added a Second round pick for Sheldon. The other extra pick is in the 5th from Dallas.
Other than that,I agree. We would have gotten nothing for Sheldon next season though, so the second and a Receiver that we desperately need is as good as it could get.
Biggest concern I see is if Wilkerson gets complacent with Sheldon gone and goes right back to being late to practice, meetings and slacking on the field

I was actually referring to this past draft, my fault. Between the last two, I think the Jets did pretty well, especially this past one.

Hard to say with this year's crop.

The Safeties look legit. They better be, to justify 2 Safety picks on a team needing help everywhere.
I like Stewart a lot also.

And the key will be to keep finding day 3 picks and UDFA's.
So far Donahue and Macguire are interesting.

    We'll see.
Mac's approach to scouting has me at least encouraged. His FA pickups have been a mixed bag, but all short term which I've liked.
Ultimately if he doesn't find a QB soon, his draft picks will have to be amazing to buy him more time to find that QB.

That was pretty much what will make Kearse terrible.

    Great deal indeed .

I definitely understand the mentality of never trading a proven player for an unknown draft pick but I think the most important part of the deal here is the contract . You could have your proven player for ONE year with a team that's not expected to contend , or you can roll the dice on a draft pick and get a player for at least FIVE years. That fact makes the gamble of selecting the right player absolutely worth it . Add in the attitude problems, depth at the position , and a solid/affordable veteran at our huge position of need to the equation and this deal is an absolute no brainer for the jets .

Seattle must really be going for it this year. I have no doubt that Sheldon will be a monster in that defense but to give away a 2nd for what is essentially a one year rental is questionable .

The only real loser in this deal is Jermaine Kearse. Went from a kushy 2nd string job on a contender to starting for likely the worst offense in the NFL . Welcome to the jets bud !!!!

To sum up ... FUCK DIS SEASON . WHERE DA PICKS AT ?!?!

The business of football? We traded a top player for a second round pick and Jermaine Kearse....We have an awful history drafting in round 2.Not one real starter in our last 10 second round picks or more. Its an awful trade...This team is going no where for the next 10 years
