Well this thread is the closest thing to mentioning trading Forte but per Tom Pelissero "Jets have gauged trade market for RB Matt Forte, who's healthy now, per sources. But it'd be very tough to move his $4m guaranteed salary"

I would be open to either splitting his 4m guaranteed or entirely taking it on to move him. There's no point to having him on the roster as we have Powell, Romar Morris, McGuire. Furthermore, I'd rather have a conditional 6th round pick that turns into a 7th or something of that nature.

I agree that there is a good chance Forte doesn't make it past final cuts and I'm surprised he's still on the roster after what we did with Mangold, Decker, and Harris. While a trade is always possible and I'm sure the FO is always "gauging value", it's doubtful a team will give up anything for him given his age and salary.

The others were cut with little to no guaranteed money. Forte is fully guaranteed, it's either trade him or play him

Agreed. Only way I can see it happening is if Jets decide to take on his salary, or a large portion of his salary. Jets currently have something like 22+ million in cap so 4 mil isn't a lot but it would be nice if we were to somehow trade him while avoiding cap penalties.

That money will come in clutch next season when Jets will most likely be major players in free agency.

If he is traded they save $3M on the cap so they can eat half of that, save $1.5M and get a late round pick. I read that article and he mentioned them maybe cutting him which I don't see as there is no cap savings to it.
Even if they want to give the young guys playing time you would think they would keep him around in case of injuries. It doesn't cost on the cap and there are always players on the roster who don't get many snaps, if Forte is that player then so be it.
