All you have to do is watch how Hackenberg deals with a pass rush and how Petty deals with one. It's night and day. I'm not sure what Petty is and I'm far from convinced that he has a realistic shot at being any kind of longterm answer, but the Jets are wasting their time with Hackenberg. That's all I'm really saying.

I'm not blaming him for everything, I am just giving you my observations.

Again, I actually watched him play. He was garbage. And, more to the point, he didn't handle the tough situations he was in well at all.

When constantly hit and under pressure, i dont know who you think would. Go watch brady when hes under pressure, see how good he is.

There was plenty of bad to mediocre play when he wasn't under pressure, as well. The guy never adapted. He never made adjustments. He just kinda folded. He's not the answer.

I pride myself in being a pretty quick evaluator of our talent. For example, you say you don't know what Petty is, I do. I feel that the Jets FO and CS do as well; hence, why he is not getting a "fair shake" at the starting job. It only took me a quarter into his rookie season, to determine Geno was not the answer. You and the rest of the Hack is a bust crew have put me to shame as you have been able to reach a conclusion before the guy has played 1 full NFL regular season game. Very impressive.

In not saying he is, but we need to give him a chance. Letting him get killed isn't developing him. I watched a film break down of him, he makes plenty of adjustments, it was his mechanics that were a major problem, not his decision making. He didnt always make great decisions but he wast overwhelmingly bad either.

Ok, so it's way too early for any of us to reach a conclusion on Hackenberg, but you have Petty all figured out because you are a "quick evaluator" of talent? That's cool.

Well, I've been watching Hackenberg attempt to play quarterback for since 2013 (when he had his one and only decent stint as a starting quarterback) . . needless to say, I'm just as confident in my evaluation of Hackenberg as you are in your evaluation of Petty.

I think we need a offensive line before we can truly evaluate anyone personally.

His mechanics were never his only problem. His accuracy was so comically bad when he got into the NFL, that naturally, his shoddy mechanics stole the spotlight in most media narratives. But, any PSU fan can tell you that he has long struggled with confidence and has generally lacked a firm ability to make good decisions under pressure.

It would be awesome to have an offensive line, but I have never agreed with this line of reasoning.

This excuse is always brought up in defense of obviously mediocre young quarterbacks. The reality is that you need a good offensive line to win with most guys, you don't necessarily need a good offensive line to evaluate them. Some of the issues Hackenberg has have little to do with who is protecting him.

Yeah the accuracy is due to mechanics. So you're reinforcing what I'm saying. Which tells me you're not looking at this objectively, because i know youre not stupid. You understand these things. It was a bad situation and no qb would have been successful at penn state they way you want. Just as soon as they get Obrien and recover front he scandal and sanctions, he bolts. Hack wasnt the only player affected.

I really dont understand how you can't understand this reasoning. I think you really need to stop putting so much emphasis on the qb position and ignoring the others. Name one qb who had a successful year behind a bad offensive line and bad skills position. Go ahead, ill wait.

LOL, you might want to read slower. I'm not reinforcing what you are arguing. I'm arguing that he has issues that have nothing to do with his poor mechanics and resulting poor accuracy. Again, his poor mechanics are what a lot of people in the media have harped on, but that's far from the whole story with him.

So WTF was anyone - Macc, Bowles, Woody - thinking when they drafted him and then hired guys to implement the WCO? This seems like an improbable reach to me. Successful teams draft personnel to fit their scheme, or install a scheme that takes advantage of their personnel. WIth the Jets it seems like a Chinese Menu approach: "I'll take this guy from column A, and that scheme from column B...".

I said it was early for me; apparently, not early for many. So I'm not as quick as I thought. Petty and Geno played 4 full NFL games before I came to a conclusion.

You are missing my point. I explicitly wrote that you generally need a good offensive line to have success with most quarterbacks, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you need a really good offensive line to evaluate them. There is a big difference there. I believe that you can tell a lot about a guy based on how he handles the specific set or circumstances he has been dealt.

In essence, I have been thoroughly unimpressed with how Hackenberg has handled his given situation since at least 2014.

No i just dont think you know what youre talking about. Let me break it down for you. I said his mechanics were his major problem, you said no its not the only problem his accuracy was so bad it stole the spotlight, uhh yeah bad mechanics, bad accuracy, major problem. Youre just so intent on telling me how wrong i am, all you dod was basically pointing out what i said. You have no idea what youre talking about. His understanding and thought process were why they took him in the second round. What did you think, they randomly took him for shits and giggles?

Ok, so 4 full NFL games is the number. Good to know. After Hack's fourth NFL game, I will be sure to post again that he is not a starting NFL quarterback.

Technically, we were not running the WCO when we drafted him but your overall point is valid. Chan Gailey's Spread-like offense wasn't a good fit either. Remember, his college career trajectory started going the wrong way when PSU hired Coach Franklin who instituted a Spread offense. We have a history of drafting QBs and inserting them into schemes that don't fit their skill sets. We did it with Sanchez and Geno.

There is no offensive line period. Here or penn state. He was under duress from the first snap. No time to even see the field. No separation on recievers parts, no blocking, im not sure what you expect to happen. How do you expect anyone to handle that? Do you think Petty would handle it better? McCown? Guys coming unblocked all preseason, and it's not just him, Petty got it last season. He got hurt because of it. This line is historically bad right now. There's no way we can tell what anyone is going to be.
