One thing I will say about this team: It has the chance to have a very good defense. The combination of a stacked front 7 and two uber talented safeties is a potent one.
Hackenberg is complete trash and it should be no surprise to anyone who watched him at PSU. i love how now that he is crapping the bed in camp and rpeseason everyone is trashing the guy when 6 months ago people who said hack was a huge reach in round 2 were called haters. Mentall he isnt there. accuracy isnt there. and he is playing scared. nothing but flats and hooks. to poise or command of his teammates in the huddle it s not his fault though, he should have never been drafted that high. thats on Mac. i wasnt big on idzik but he got a raw deal... he took over a terrible declining old team, capped out, with no QB... woody signed off on idziks 3 year rebuild and then fired him for not winning only 1.5 years into the bottoming out. Idzik wasnt good, mostly because of drafting/talent evaluation... but Mac benefitted from idziks rebuilding... 50 million in cap room a top 6 pick.... and he undid ALL OF IT by using all that money on old win-now players while refusing to find long term replacments for mangold, fergeson, revis, harris..... So a year or two later we are right back to where we were when idxik took over... capped out team of old guys who needed to be cut.... not offensive talent because we keep going defense in rounds 1/2 and nothing even close to resembleing a starting qb.... not to mention STILL no long term replacement at LT or C max is just idzik 2.0 and hack is geno 2.0 only 1o times worse
There's no problem with rookies making mistakes, we expect that, but we also expect that they can feel pressure, identify protections but mostly we would like them to be able to make more then one read. If the plan is for Hack to be the back-up then fair enough but he's supposed to be a viable starter....................which he's not.
