Even if the White Sox move Garland it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility that they move Freddy Garcia. We probably don't have a chance at Buehrle anymore though. I like the idea of Proctor in the rotation, provided that we resign Villone, that Britton can pitch in the Bronx, and that Bruney doesn't pull an Aaron Small on us. Proctor is really a quality pitcher (great control, mixes speeds) and would stabilize the bottom of our rotation wonderfully. I just worry about the effect it would have on our bullpen.

Chamberlain has put up an ERA of 2.14, while striking out 42 with only 3 walks so far this season.

According to the NY Post the Yankees want Pettitte but aren't going to wait around for him. Also included in the article is the interesting note that the Yankees may make a competitive bid for Japanes lefty Kie Igawa, who was posted by the Hanshin Tigers. Also, per Buster Olney's blog, the Braves may be interested in dealing Tim Hudson. Olney focuses on the idea of the Orioles going after him, but at this point the Yankees have the pieces to make Atlanta a good offer for Hudson, who would definately stabilize our rotation. I don't know how attatched Cashman is to Humberto Sanchez, but something centered around him and another one of our pitching prospects (Sean Henn, for example) would be enough to bring Hudson in if Atlanta is serious about moving him.

I wouldn't mind Igawa, since the posting fee and total salary will probably be pretty low. He would be a nice #4/#5, or could replace Villone in the bullpen. Hudson looks to be on the decline, I'd be really worried about giving up a bundle for him. I'd give up maybe Kennedy and another low-ceiling prospect or two, but anything more I'd say no. Agreed on every point, but especially on Lily. I like the guy, but no way @ $9M a year for FOUR years. He isn't exactly young anymore. While I like Moose, it's time for the Yankees to stop purchasing guys on the cusp of retirement for what amounts to long-term deals. That's probably exactly why Cashman has walked away from the conversation.
Thank you. I'm also troubled by Hudson's declining performance in the NL East, but at the same time we are not going to be a WS team unless we shore up our starting pitching and we may have to swallow a bad deal in order to do that, unless we are planning to pay Zito $100 million.
That's certainly true, which is why I don't envision us winning a championship this year unless Hughes and Clippard are called up in the second half and pitch great from day one (likely unrealistic). I really don't want to sign any of these FA pitchers. Maybe Meche if his price is around $6M per, only because he has good stuff and correctable mechanics. The entire market outside of Zito and Schmidt is filled with #4 pitchers looking for #2 money. Even Zito and Schmidt are #3s looking for #1 money (I imagine it would take #1 money to get Schmidt to leave his west coast paradise). If we can't make a trade for a Peavy, or Zambrano, or another top flight young pitcher, then I'd just prefer to fill the rotation with guys like Rasner and Karstens for the first half until Hughes and Clippard are ready post-AS break.

Also that article mentions Toby Hall as a potential backup catcher for the Yankees. It'd be nice to have a backup catcher capable of hitting over the mendoza line.
