The difference is you wanted them to go 0-16, I don't. I won't tolerate it. You are a good guy I am sure, but I can't agree with anyone that visibly wants to see the team lose all of their games.
I agree with you actually. To add, I want them to fight each week because I want to see who is a keeper and who needs to go. That said, I don't might Jets throwing a key game to ensure 1st overall pick. IMO it's THAT important this coming draft.
Yeah, well nobody likes losing do they, I hate losing but it is called making a sacrifice at the end of the day, for the greater good of the team, people that are happy to go 5 or 6 wins a season are the ones I just can't understand, hell 5-11 seasons for the next 5 years going absolutely nowhere is hardly life's great dream at the end of the day.
Yes, rather than go 5,6,7,8 wins that is the context for crying out loud, do you really think I would take pleasure in watching us lose all those 16 games ? If we win 5,6,7,8 games we continue this pointless cycle of nothingness, we may improve a little and grab ourselves a season or two of 10-6 but it will be another false dawn, this franchise needs burned to the ground and rebuilt properly, ideally losing the owner along the way would be a boost also, maybe he has given the nod to reboot while he takes a trip to the UK so he is out of the way of the scorn in the press and from hardcore fans that can't see the Jet for the clouds. Do you think I stay up late in the UK and watch all the games I can find, whilst sometimes having to get up at 4am to go into work after watching late games, really ? The worlds shittest Jets fan over here, I claim the title and will not let go until we have a winning franchise, that gives us a little hope that one day we may make a return trip to a superbowl. I would rather we had a winning franchise but we haven't got one of them and haven't had one of them for a long long time. 34 years so far, shit fan warning.
When tanking happens, players stop showing up. It creates a losing culture that might take years to get out of. If the Jets are going to be bad, I want them to be competitive like the Browns last year. They fought each and every game. IDK if Bowles could motivate the team like Hue Jackson can ... I guess we will find out. I mean if they throw a key game away, then it is what it is. They probably don't have to throw a game away, Jets can do that all by themselves just like they did last year when they started kicking FGs instead of going for it on 4th down when they were down 20+ points.
Well I too will root for them to win - against every logical cell in my brain - but if they still went winless, I wouldn't let that bother me, especailly if they "win" the first pick in every round. In fact, going 1-15 would actually piss me off worse than them going 0-16.
I wouldn't know, but it seems like you would have no problem seeing them go 0-16. If the Jets are winning 8 games, then something is going VERY well for them. This would mean Hack or Petty have really stepped up and could be the FQB of this team for the next 10 years. You take that momentum into the off-season, fix the line get more weapons on offense, next year you possibly are a wild card team. Continue to build around the QB, now you could very well be AFC contenders after another draft. Continue to build. Look at McCown's record, when has he ever won more then 4 or 5 starts?
Everybody there's huge breaking news out of Jets camp. Hackenberg isn't wearing his white glove anymore! Hackenberg is now going to become the second coming of Joe Montana. I hate our beat writers.
In order to win every round, you gotta pick the right players. I'll take the 1-15 anytime over 0-16, how many teams actually win only 1 game? It doesn't happen a lot. I don't see that many teams right now that would win only 1 game outside of the Jets, MAYBE the 49ers
I'm with you. In fact I'm sick of everyone who rejoices just because they MIGHT squeak into the playoffs with no chance of getting to the SB, let alone winning one. I felt that going 10-6 two years ago was damn near disastrous because I knew that it would further delay what they really needed to do, and I was right. They need to do whatever it takes to put themselves in a position to build a SB contender. Anything short of that is pointless. Now, with that said, I am NOT advocating tanking. But they need to take risks, like playing Hack and the rest of the young guys no matter what, And then not being afraid to draft a FQB next year, as they were this year. Would anyone here really be upset if Watson were on this team? That's the kind of franchise dysfunction I'm talking about. After watching this for 55+ years, I really don't know if they can escape their own history.
I agree with that assessment, but IF it came down to the end of the season and another team was winless, or had only one win but would get the tie-breaker, I would hope the Jets go winless. I understand you completely disagree, but for me, I would detest winning 1 game and not at least getting the first pick in every round. I'm willing to put my "pride" behind pragmatism in that case. I hope that it doesn't come down to this though, and frankly I don't see ANY team going winless this year.
You would have to take into account tiebreakers here. Who did the Jets beat? I mean what are the chances of TWO teams only winning 1 game? Slim to none, I don't even remember the last time that happened. I hope it doesn't come down to that either. If the jets get the #2 pick, who cares? Still gets you a very good QB. If Darnold is gone, you can get either Rosen or Allen. Rosen is entitled as hell though, but I saw some news that he would take the league minimum so he can build his team (lol).
What I read about him recently, and his comments about how the college football system is, makes me like him. He's not politically correct, and he's a thinker. Now I understand many might not like him for that, but for me it shows him to be independent, and not satisfied with the status quo. Now that said, it still comes down to how good is he physically, and can he carry a team on his back? Joe Namath wasn't a Rhodes Scholar, but he sure could lead a team! That's the kind of guy I want the Jets to get.
All fine and dandy in theory and don't get me wrong I would love Hack to be the man and your scenario is every GM's dream scenario and in fact you make it sound so easy. But let's pretend we have gone 8-8, we have a shit ton of cap space to play with, what do you do with it ? Historically we have wasted that cash on short term fixes or to put it bluntly trying to chase those cheating twats down, we got a 10-6 and blew the big game v the Bills and failed to make the playoffs. Do you fix the squad with high waged FA's with talent and go down the short term route ? Will this not end back up in the situation we are in now ? We won't be able to fix it in the draft, hell you don't trust them to pick well from the a high draft what do expect them to achieve with a middle of the road draft position ? I also despair at the thought that we have wasted 6m on McCowan, he is a nothing player, what the hell is he going to impart on Hack ? How to get injured diving head long into tackles !!!!! I would prefer to reboot and see how and where that gets us, at the very least it is a new road for us to try, nothing else we have tried for 20 years has worked very well, give or take a couple of seasons here or there.
UCLA USC, cannot wait for that game! Rosen, after reading that article, he's Eli Manning for sure. He carried the team last year, but got injured in the process. A healthy season and he's 110% coming out. I see no way he stays in school for his Senior Year.
We'll have a lot of cap space, but we continue to build through the draft. Maybe hand out an extension to Leonard Williams in the process. I don't want to spend TOO much on free agents, the core of the team comes from the draft. With an 8-8 record, you can absolutely still fix your team and improve it. If the youngins are bad, the team will be bad believe me. 2 wins at most, that will get us a top 3 pick. I can guarantee that.
We did reboot, this is year 1 of it. Time for macs first two drafts to start bearing fruit. If it doesn't it means we will be rebooting again in 2 years. That's what happens when you keep losing. To hope for 0-16 or the first pick overall is to hope the last 2-3-4 draft classes are complete busts. Now,if it does so happen that mac can draft and we have some players and win some games we can spend on f.a. and continue to draft well and build the perpetually competitive team we all crave.
That just isn't correct though is it, if you pulled 2 or 3 good ones from each of those drafts and kept building around them then by draft 5 you would still have a conveyor belt of talent at varying degrees of progress, there is no wishing for previous drafts to be a bust. Yes we have rebooted and it is year one and already you can see how unhappy it is making some fans, I guess that is why Woody never gave it his blessing before now. I can't wait to see how some of these prospects do this season, we do need to find some OL to protect either Hack or the next incumbent of our QB jersey.
