Except for the part where almost every team lines up at least 3 WRs almost every snap, so the defense is going to line up a nickel DB virtually every snap--not just on third down. If anything, they spread the Jets out more than other teams because the line is so stout against inside runs.
Idzic ended up drafting 3 starters in 2 years. That's h.o.f. numbers compared to bradway. Plus the jolley trade, Robertson trade up,mccairens.
Enunwa went down in the endzone in 7 on 7 drills, and was face down for a few minutes. He eventually got up, and walked on his own steam into the locker room. He was limping. I hope he's okay.
I would agree, but if the OL looks like swiss cheese, then they need to sign some camp cuts to shore it up. The Jets have to find out what they have in Hack and Petty. Playing McCown just to let him take the pounding won't help the Jets going forward other than keeping Hack or Petty from getting killed. If they still can't fix it, then play McCown.
Just attended the scrimmage. Quick thoughts: 1) The offense is terrible. Very terrible. 2) Contary to point 1, we actually have tight ends worth a damn this year. 3) WR Chris Harper stood out and made some nice plays. 4) Marcus Maye pick 6 on Mccown. One of many ugly throws by McCown. 5) Hackenberg was clearly the best QB, and is a sack waiting to happen. Needs to get rid of the ball. 6) Petty was just a body out there. Nothing bad, very little good. 7) McCown blows. If he starts the tank is on. Terrible. 8) The way Enunwa went down it was hard to tell how he was injured. Very unfortunate, hope he's ok. 9) Kevin Greene is the most energetic person on the field. You can hear him from the stands. 10) Juston Burris looked really good today. To your point about hack, are the receivers getting open and he is taking too long making the reads or should he be throwing it away because nothing is there? Just wondering where he is at going through progressions.
From my vantage, I saw Hackenberg freeze defenders, look off defenders, go through progressions and make excellent reads. I think he has the young and inexperienced attitude of hang in there as long as possible to make a play rather than "nothings there, get rid of it." I think he has the right physical and mental tools, but he's still young and needs a lot of work. Also, his release is lightning. You watch him and Mccown throw side by side it's night and day. McCown is throwing like he's swinging a golf club while Hackenberg is firing rockets off his arm. I think his release might contribute to him thinking he has that little bit of extra time. All speculation based on witnessing one practice obviously. Personally, I feel less optimistic about this season than I had going into the night. I don't think the Jets will obtain any value AT ALL from starting Mccown. If it were up to me Hackenberg would start and Petty would be the backup all year. Let them go through their growing pains no matter how miserable. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Any updates on Xavier Coleman? Know he went down with an injury. Kid is a real tough luck story from Portland State. I am pulling for him.
He was really writhing in pain, and he limped off in way worse condition than Enunwa looked. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
agree with your last paragraph, i was completely against bringing in mccown or anyone 30 something qb. no sense in having a non potential fqb on this roster. thanks for the input on hack, bad spot for him. he needs experience but doesn't have the luxury of time with the upcoming qb class
Is it possible that you expect too much from 5th round draft picks? Players are drafted in the 5th round for a reason.
True, but because he got the lion's share of the reps and with coupled with the OL, neither Hack nor Petty still stand a chance.
Derek Carr Frankly, I wouldn't mind Kaep signing right now. Kaep can start for this team and take the beating till the OL is unfucked. Right. That's the big if. That they didn't bother answering. But then he let the franchise QB get away in his watch. When I look at Raiders, I can't but seethe with burning rage and hatred for Idzik. I don't know why.
I don't know who I would pick if I were the HC, based on your report. A few things should go into consideration: 1. Is my job safe beyond this year? 2. Can I get the OL unfucked? [Will take 3 years tops.] If I get yes from #1 and #2, then I am starting McClown. No reason to throw Hack to the wolves when Jets OL can't even properly protect him. But then - I might think again. Peyton was thrust into the starting role as a rookie, when he was surrounded by garbage OLs. He did have Edge and Harrison, but that was about all the good things he had at his disposal.
