Ok, got it. It's unacceptable by some of you to hear good news. So we read encouraging stuff coming out of camp. God forbid we should enjoy it even if it is for a bit. No, lets continue to dump shit on good news. Its one thing to be a skeptic, another to pick the fly shit out of the pepper every time something good comes out of camp. Be it Hack, the TE progress, whatever. God, if it was bad news we would take it as the gospel.
Regroup Jet fans.....some of you are so freaking paranoid about tanking that no good news will be accepted. Lets get a life people. We might have something good in here to start our rebuild on. Let it be. For all I care, I hope ASJ makes the pro bowl this year and shuts everyone up.
    He can be that good.

I heard Leggett was very impressive as well today? Only about a 1/3 of the offense is currently installed, I would assume the defense would be winning early in TC.

In all fairness a teams Offense always comes along slower than the Defense. Add a whole new offense and a stable of near-rookie WRs and there you have it. Give the O a month....

ASJ was a highly-rated prospect coming out of college. He struggled with alcoholism, and has now been sober for 7 months, has lost weight, is working hard, and in every single practice report from OTAs, mini-camp and now TC, he has been a star in every practice. Leggett is a rookie and he has looked very good at times.

It's one thing to be cynical or fearful, but quite another to say the TEs suck when neither you nor any of us have seen how they are playing in practice or a game yet this year. Personally, I think the TEs are gonna be very good for us this year. If so, I will look forward to see if you're man enough to eat your words and admit that you were wrong.

Sounds like hack has been the best qb so far. I am going to give it a few days before I get irate about mccown getting the first reps in teams if this keeps up

    KRL Camp Notes (7/31/17)

    General Notes

    - First full pad practice

    - Practice ran 2 hours and 45 minutes

    - Practice was open to the public for the first time. Attendance seemed down but only slightly

    - The media attendance picked up I guess because Roger Goodell was at the facility

    - Penalty laps from the Mangini era returns when offensive players mess up

    Player Notes

    - Ardarius Stewart and Chad Hansen returned fully to practice. First impressions, Stewart early
on was "double catching" balls until things started to slow down for him. Hansen was being instructed
by John Morton to not push off on comeback routes. He needed to be more subtle when "disposing" of
    the CB's

    - The players auditioning for the return jobs are Lucky Whitehead, Romar Morris (RB), Marcus Murphy
    (RB) and Frankie Hammond (WR)

    - With the pads coming on there were 1 on 1 blocking drills:
    * Darron Lee showed much stronger hands as he rocked back Bilal Powell
    * Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Jordan Leggett and Eric Tomlinson were better than I expected. Instead
of just getting in the way they actually were physical and moved people

    - In 9 on 7 running drills the run defense was stout. Credit to Deon Simon and the ILB's (Lee & Demario
Davis) for shutting down the middle

    - Morris Claiborne returned and continued to impress. It's shocking to say based on their careers but
he's going to be a huge upgrade over Revis if he stays on the field

    - Sheldon Richardson continued to impress with TFL's in the running game. Steve McLendon also had
multiple TFL's as he blew up running plays

    - Elijah McGuire flashed today with a couple of tough inside runs and a 40+ yard TD off an inside
    screen pass from Josh McCown

    - Concerning the kicking battle both Ross Martin & Chandler Catanzaro were perfect in their attempts.
But I'm leaning toward Martin winning the battle because it appears he's improved his leg strength.
He's been hitting 50+ yarders easily and on bad snaps he was still able to adjust and make the kicks

    QB's

    - Josh McCown and Bryce Petty were both alright, nothing spectacular but no turnovers. On one occasion
it appeared that Petty was held on the sideline to allow Christian Hackenberg to stay on the field

    - Hackenberg "stacked" another practice as he continued to progress. Areas of improvement today included:
    1. On QB rollouts he was able to maintain accuracy even when his feet weren't stationary
    2. Throwing with anticipation to spots before receivers were there
    3. Throwing through tight windows in the middle of the field
He got scolded and yanked from one rep by Bowles/Morton when he didn't get out of the huddle quick enough

    Padded Plays Of The Day

    - Wesley Johnson and Anthony Firkser (FB) "combo pancake" blocked McLendon on a long run up the middle

    - Doug Middleton (S) "clothes-lined" Jordan Todman (RB) with one arm for a TFL

    Standouts

    - Run defense

He's been right there with McCown from the start, that tells me the Jets are wasting 1st team reps. Clearly, a 2 QB race now.

My uneducated guess is that even if Hackenberg is clearly better than McCown this pre-season, if Hackenberg individually is still showing unacceptable faults or weaknesses in his game, the Jets will hold off on throwing him to the wolves. McCown will start despite Hackenberg's performance (assuming this even happens) simply because the Jets want Hackenberg to get off to a fast start and if he's still not worked out all the kinks, I think they are willing to wait until he does.

McCown is a rental and they'll treat him that way.

Bowles is a man of few words but his actions have always spoken loud and clear, even if Hack is the clear leader, Bowles will stick to his blueprint. Mcown will continue to get most of the 1st team reps.

He's a Parcells disciple and he truly believes veterans give you the best chance of winning because younger players mistakes will cost the team games.

if that happens i will be done with him. every thing that happens this year has t be geared toward making hack the fqb and until he shows he is not. if hack stacks 5-6 good practices in a row and a good showing in p.s. game 1 competition should be over. bowles has tooperate this way or him and mac are not working in the same direction.

Training camp is really pointless. Every TC Geno looked like a Pro-Bowler until the preseason games exposed him. Any professional QB is going to look good when they can't be hit, and have all day to throw.

as it should be, petty showed some moxie last year but he just isn't the answer. qb competitions hinder training camp, the faster bowles can make a decision the better. the first preseason game is looking like must see tv right now

I disagree. Petty's behind the other two, but according to reports he has made some of the best throws of both OTAs, and now TC thus far. He supposedly is going through his progressions faster than Hack, is more poised in the pocket, but has made some bad throws/decisions. Hack has been holding the ball too long and taken a bunch of sacks. That won't cut it.

As we all know, Bowles will go with who he thinks gives the team the best chance to win, and dollars to doughnuts that will be McCown due to his experience, even if Hack blows McCown away in TC and preseason. While he has been much improved, according to reports, Hack has been holding the ball too long and has taken what would have been 6+ sacks. That won't cut it.

I agree with you that they will probably hold Hack out until he is getting through his progressions faster and making quicker decisions.

This was one of the things I liked seeing the most from that TC report. Looks like Leggett is working on his blocking and the Jets will have a couple of TEs who can both block and are good receivers. What a welcome change.
