We could've done that, only to have that rebuild fall apart, and we would've been right back here re-rebuilding. These are the Jets after all. That Eagles game about a week before Christmas in 2011 is when this thing started to fall apart. But that 2011 season had a lot of bad omens in general.
The biggest part of this "tanking" thing is getting a big name, experienced coach, based upon the #1 overall pick, and $80 million in cap space. So, since we are still alive for the #1 pick and still have oodles in 2018 cap space, why should we crap out on the possibility of getting a big name coach for somebody like Kevin Greene, who in my opinion, would be no better than Rex Ryan lite (in more ways than one)
I was rooting for Donnie Henderson after Edwards went on to KC. I really liked that dude. Obviously wouldn't have worked out. Maybe we should exhume Weeb.
I hate this idiotic attitude so much... So what you're saying is that any attempt to improve the team is doomed before it's even started, because "These are the Jets". Then why the hell are you even watching? If there is no hope this team will ever get better then you are: - masochist and here to enjoy the pain - sadist and here to inflict the pain - cheater's boy and are here to mock the pain seriously, why bother if according to you there is nothing Jets can do to get better, because "These are the Jets"?
In the history of the NFL there has never been zero decent candidates for head coach. There are simply fans who don't know shit about all the potential coaches and confuse their ignorance of the coaches to mean the coaches aren't any good.
Not sure why anyone thinks no one will want to coach the Jets after Bowles is fired? If the season goes as expected and the Jets have the first pick, they will be the most attractive landing spot for a HC with the chance to hand pick a QB from a strong QB class and oodles of cap room available.
And in addition, there are a number of good to very good players here in Williams, Mo Wilk, Enunwa, Carpenter, Powell, Lee, Anderson, Burris, Simon, McLendon, and those with a ton of potential in Adams, Maye, ASJ, Stewart, Hansen, Marshall, and Leggett. At least some of the building blocks are here. The team is young and hungry. It's a faster team than the Jets have had in a long time. There is size and speed at the WR position. There is scheme flexibility on D.
morton has never called a play or been a coordinator yet in the NFL. same goes for greene. while i konw the HC rarely calls plays (some do some don't and usually one side of the ball) their lack of experience would be terrible. also being a HC means being an asshole and making the tough calls. You can't have the "players" coach style like herm and rex were. it doens't cut it in the NFL. all the bets sucessful HCs are cold hearted asses. that's what it takes
I remember that Gary Myers in the Daily News wrote an article the morning of the Jets Jags game early that season.......basically the premise was that there hasn't been a better time to be a Jets fan in decades. They were coming off two consectutive AFC title game appearances,They were 1-0 after that comeback vs Dallas and facing a bad Jags team. " The future looked bright " basically......I remember reading it and getting a bad feeling...They wound up crushing the Jags....but things started to unravel soon after.....I'm almost positive it was Myers but the article itself I remember well.
That just doesn't fit the doom and gloom narrative that some choose to embrace. Those same posters would be bitching if the Jets won the Superbowl that the game was too close.
We have "cold hearted ass" right now in TB??? Ya gotta be kidding Those two other coaches have to be less than nice guys who let players come late and miss meetings
Here is preview of thread topics within 24 hrs after winning SB Time management problem WTF!!! 3 drops by #1 WR?! 27 points allowed, DC has to be on the hot seat for this
I never said it was the only quality needed. obviously bowles is lacking in other areas. but his attitude mixed with rex's defensive knowledge would have been a great combo
bowles isn't half the defensive minded coach rex is. rex had players playing way above their skill level. bowles put players in positions to fail over and over again.
Again set your alarm clock. Rex had players year one and two and did well. Idzick left him with bare cupboards and he was playing guys out of position which led to his demise. Same -same. One has a better tan, one was more entertaining. No let's go get a good damn snack !!!
Our defense was always top 5 with rex, regardless the talent we had. bowles can't accomplish that. he refused to give revis help when revis wasn't up to himself. we traded revis during rex's tenure and our defense didn't really skip a beat.

You do realize that crack is not only illegal but highly addictive. Just say no SolidGoldToiletBowles...
Rex was ridiculously better than Toilet Bowles. Bowles and Mangina are one and the same. Maybe one day we will get a real HC.
