Who cares? The chances of us getting the number 1 pick aren't very good. In fact, the chances of any single team securing the number 1 pick aren't great. We could easily be 4-12 and not be close to the top pick. I'll worry about this sort of stuff in December, when I at least have an idea of where we will be drafting.
Way too early to fixate on 1 or 2 names when this class at first sight seems incredibly deep not even accounting for QBs who might ascend this coming year who aren't currently apart of the discussion. This is all about the scouts followed by whoever the QB evaluators are come next Jan. If Darnold & Rosen are the top 2 guys hard to imagine them skipping out on the draft. If they do...educational reasons aside..they aren't the right guy for this team. Jets should want a QB who doesn't shy away from heavy competition to be the first QB off the board. QB is all about fierce competition...what's more of a fierce competition than proving your the #1 QB prospect in the deepest class since 04 arguably since 82?!
If Rosen has a good year he's 110% going to come out. He's 3rd on my qb rankings Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
I haven't started watching him play but I like what I read about him embracing the spotlight & having some swagger. That sounds like the last great QB this team had. It may actually be a blessing in disguise to not pick top 3 if the QB really is this deep.If they pick too high they'll feel pressure to take a specific name.If they pick somewhere 5-8 they'll be Alittle more freedom to really hone in to the best FIT at The position.
His footwork is terrible. He has Happy feet, rarely plants his feet, and over strides. His throwing motion is even worse than his footwork. There's a reason he is working with Palmer to fix his footwork and throwing motion, and it's not because he doesn't want to be too similar to a HOF QB. He needs alot of work before he's ready to take the field in the NFL.
He's got some haters out there though. Media calls Rosen entitled, apparently the reason he didn't get an offer from Stanford. Media rumors could blow up and all of a sudden he's Connor Cook, a QB I wanted the Jets to draft a while back. Rosen, far more talented however. Some compare him to Eli Manning and I really like that comparison outside of the fact that Rosen may not be as durable. Wack ass Giant fans don't give Eli the respect he deserves. Someone will end up dropping, but I think Josh Allen from Wyoming could be a star. He's like Stafford, but bigger and man, 6'5 QB, he checks all of the physical boxes you want in a QB. ELITE arm strength, can make plays on the run. He plays off just talent alone and he has a good IQ, but he needs to start seeing the field much better. I'll be watching all of his games somewhere. Allen, runs the pro style and will now pair with the coach that got Wentz into the NFL.
I would be freaking ecstatic if by some miracle we land Allen in 2018. Ill be watching as many Wyoming games as I can this year. My buddy's son is going there now, so I'm hoping to get some scoop on what's going down with Allen.
We aren't smart enough to get the number 1 pick but if we did it would be Peyton Manning all over again.
Many points in there that I agree with. I believe Eli Manning does not get the respect he deserves. I mean who has beat Tom Brady twice in the SB? That alone should be huge. I also wanted the Jets to draft Cook. He won some tough games against some tough teams. I'll try to watch all the QB's coming out this year. The one thing that worries me about Allen is his conference.
It's a deep draft for QB's and Darnold is probably only 25% likely to be the top QB in it by draft time next year. Rosen is probably 25%. Allen is probably 25% and the field is at 25% at this point. That's why the 2018 draft is looking like a great draft for QB's at this point. There are 3 guys everybody is watching hard and another 3 or 4 guys that have enough interest that if they mature in 2017 they can rocket up the board from the position they're in now. Darnold is the favorite because he was very hot down the stretch last year and had a great bowl game. None of that will matter if he doesn't look great again this year. Rosen has dropped some because he was hurt last year in his sophomore season. That won't matter if he looks great and stays healthy this year. Allen is not at the top of the list because there are accuracy questions to be answered. That won't matter if he is accurate in 2017, gets his completion pct up a bit and Wyoming looks great with him at QB. Watching the 3 of them play I marginally prefer Rosen over Allen. Darnold plays out of control a lot and has some real mechanical issues. Of course that's what they said about Elway and Favre also and the talent was just much more impressive than the flaws that surfaced now and then. I have no idea who is going to be the best QB in the draft in 2018 but I know I want that guy on the Jets.
Darnold did play great down the stretch, and that bowl game performance was out of control good. But the other big thing to consider is that he's the only one who put up an eyepopping completion percentage on the season too of over 67% as a redshirt freshman. I think you're in the ballpark but I definitively make Darnold the favorite to be the top QB in the draft class, maybe Darnold 40% Rosen 20% Allen 20% Field 20%. But that also leads to the other distinction I make which is while Darnold is no guarantee to be the top prospect, if there is going to be an outstanding once every few years prospect in the class I think it's by far likeliest to be Darnold because his ceiling just seems higher than everyone else's. There are concerns to get past. The mechanics of his throwing motion needs improvement badly, he's supposed to be working on it but who knows if he'll have the same 'it' factor slinging in tough throws if and when he does adopt sounder mechanics. Footwork needs improvement too. But as you point out there's a lot to like from what we saw, and sometimes a guy just has the type of talent to overcome some flaw/s, and he could even correct those flaws becoming something even greater and removing all of the question marks. He has a big time arm. He's mobile. He has that field general mentality, reading the field, going through progressions, making good decisions about risk/reward and most of all he has shown that he has a propensity to throw strikes on big time throws in important situations with high frequency. When you watch great QB's play and they get to third down you expect them to dig in, create a good play and keep the drive alive. When they get the ball inside the opponents' 30 you expect them to find a way to come away with 6 and not settle for 3, that's what they do. Darnold gives that same feeling. My heart isn't set on him yet because there's a lot of football to be played between now and the draft, but I'd love to see Darnold improve those mechanics this offseason and light it up because I think he has the best chance to be special. If that happens and the Jets hold up their end and suck sufficiently without convincing the top prospect that they're going to continue to suck indefinitely inducing them to stay in school then that would finally be something to really hang your hat on for the Jets. It's like that line that if you have two runners that get to first base at the same time but one of them has bad mechanics you'd rather coach him because you can teach him to improve and become the superior runner. In this case Darnold clearly outperformed the competition with bad mechanics, so that's the guy that I'm rooting for. If he doesn't make that step forward this year then so be it, I'll move on but that's the dream scenario to me.
Absolutely not. If a franchise QB is there you take him. I don't care if the OLB is supposed to be the next Von Miller or the LT is supposed to be John Ogden, you take the QB.
So you are saying Darnold IS a FQB? Like I said in my earlier posts, it's way too early to put anyone on these type of pedestals, let's see what this football year looks like and see if he is that type of dominant QB that is undeniably a FQB. We have watched enough football over the years to know that there are only a few guys who reach that level of football in college, they just dominate and consistently make plays. With everything that he has to work on this off season, I would be surprised if he reached that level of football.
I would rather not take any QB that has had one to two years experience in college. I think we should have learned that lesson with Nacho and his one year of playing experience in college. Management would never consider tanking a season for draft position. That's truly a stupid concept. I think we will muster 4-7 wins next season. I see McClown playing until he gets hurt. Petty will back him up chances are, and this season Hack will improve by being on the active roster all season. I hope our running game produces 2,000 yards rushing between our 3 backs. McClown may throw for 3,000 yards if he isn't injured with 25 TD's and 12 Intc's.
Mccown has never thrown for anything close to 3000 yards or 25 tds and you think he may hit those numbers this year with this team at 38 years old? Please breakdown how you come to this prediction
Thankfully this is supposed to be one of the strongest QB drafts in years so let's just see what transpires moving forward and hope for the best .
It won't matter. With this O-line and McCown's injury history, he won't make it 5 games before he' on IR. Might as well predict that IF McCown stays healthy, he will throw for 12,000 yards and 472 TDs.
Well if we somehow rush for 2,000, why not? Our line can't block for that kind of yardage. You must have skipped that part, and went straight to hating on McClown
