New systems take time to gel. McCown being as brittle as he is, won't survive the year behind center although one would really have to stretch for justification in starting him. There is no upside to that unless we're banking on his stellar 2-20 record to hold up. Between Petty and Hack, only one of them has any real NFL experience and that Qb was playing behind a low grade Oline that tried its best to get him killed week in and week out. With the Ancient OC calling an outdated, predictable offense that didn't involve the TE, the entire 2016 NY Jet effort on offense was doomed to failure. In short, Petty was sacrificed to protect Hack. That being said, I doubt if the offense gets better from last year But, it should be better than Sparano's by a lot. Its a completely new system taught by a new legit OC to a new Qb that doesn't win very often backed up by one unknown kid and another Qb who's been beat to hell. if the Oline doesn't make any improvements, the offense will be on par with last year's dismal effort. Kinda like the Knicks running the vaunted "Triangle". The results will be similar. Lots of effort, very little to show for it.
Tebow is moving up in the minors. Citfield is his future. Thought Tebow never got a real shot with the Jets. As bad as Sanchez was playing they never put Tebow in. It was like Rex giving the middle finger to Woody for bringing the Tebow circus to town.
Given how many bad QBs we've had, that would be pretty remarkable. Obviously, the coaching staff believes that the young jets QBs have some talent and the potential to be productive starters, otherwise they would have gone all out to get someone. If it turns out you're correct then the coaching and scouting staff (and GM) need to be replaced. For now, I'm giving the jets QBs the benefit of the doubt and will watch the games closely for signs of QB potential.
Never quite understood the hate for Tim Tebow myself, he looked and sounded like a good kid, he also didn't look that shit at QB when he was leading Denver to all those comeback victories, granted he had accuracy issues but he has been treated very shabbily imo
Tebow caught a lot of flak for his Jesusness. True - he sucked as a QB, but it's not like we didn't know that. As a person, he was very nice kid. I am glad he's getting his chances at MLB.
the hate came from all his disciples that flooded the board telling us how great he was going to be when everyone who watched football could tell he was on one of the most improbable runs in sports history. good kid, great college football player, great athlete but not an nfl qb and hs fans are tough to deal with
The OC has never had OC duties for a full season. The QB could be someone who has never taken an NFL snap or only started in a handful of games, otherwise its a 38 year old journeyman who has been on 1/4 of NFL teams. The WR's have less than 150 combined career receptions. The OL is average at best, for now. Yeah, it could be a pretty bad year offensively and honestly if you don't go into the season with that expectation, you're setting yourself up for more heart break and disappointment. Anything they do well offensively will be gravy. It's a cop-out and easy to say, but I expect this team to rival the 2016 Browns in where the defense will play well probably 75% of the time & be able to keep us closer on the scoreboard than we really are for the majority of the season & that it will be the offense that holds us back outside of maybe 3-5 games where everything's clicking. Then of course there will be 3-5 games where the entire thing looks like hot garbage and it's long, long Sunday. No unit, unless it's historically good or bad, can suck or be great for all 16 games.
When will we as Jets fans no longer have to hear the words "best chance to win" with regards to the QB position? I'd like to retire that phrase in time capsule with pictures of Sanchez and Fitzpatrick.
I totally agree with retiring that phrase, but why in the world would you want to put it along with pictures of Sanchez and Fitz in a time capsule? The thing with time capsules is that you eventually are supposed to dig them up. I don't think any Jets fan wants to be reminded of any of this. I'd like to have my memory of that phrase, Fitz and Sanchez erased, but don't have to go to the trouble. At my age, it's likely to happen anyway in another 5-10 years. LOL
I don't think it will be worse at all. I think there will be flash moments, but ultimately it entirely depends on what we get at the QB position. Which all signs are pointing to not getting much, although Hack is a total unknown.
