What does Hack need to do to be the incumbent going in to 2018?

He'll have to do what Geno did. Play well enough in meaningless games to ensure your team doesn't finish drafting in the top 3.

His numbers will resemble Aikman's more than Peyton Manning's, especially if you consider the state of Jets as well. [It's closer to 1990 Cowboys.]

I just don't think I can trust Todd Bowles any more.

Kurt. Items 1-5 are all good stuff, but to debate your opening line he really doesn't need to earn the chance to play....he earned that when he was drafted. He is entitled to be given a chance to play. Something the previous regime neglected to do. What he has to earn is the chance to remain on this team, and slowly by surely earn the chance to be our starter. And eventually our FQB. He is entitled to every opportunity to overcome his short comings and show us what he was really drafted for. This is the year to make things happened.

If they don't start Hackenberg week one I will be pissed off. It is a tough spot though, because if McCown looks better in camp- and you don't start him- its going to be a bad look in the locker room and for the coaching staff(this is the last thing this team needs now)

I am hoping Hack just straight up wins the competition. If he can't even win a QB competition with McCown there is no reason he should be starting anyway.

If Hack is 1-7 in the last half of the season we're drafting a QB #1 overall next year. That's just the reality of it.

That is likely true, however if Hackenberg does show signs this year, I think that is what truly matters. He would still have 2 years on his rookie deal to continue to improve, then the Jets could end up with 2 good QB on their roster instead of their usual 0. That is a problem I would not mind having.

He needs to play like Brady and he should be fine.

Even if he does show something, they need to take a qb #1 - gotta have options at that position.

But that isn't true though is it, we could finish the season with 1 win and Hack could still have looked like a future QB, going 1-15 or whatever it ends up won't just be his fault, hell it is more than likely not going to be his fault at all, if the OL don't give him a chance to perform it will be like his last two seasons in college football, the poor fucker :(

    Earn the starting job.
Complete 60% of his passes or more.
    More TDs than INTs
    Pocket presence.

I think Hack has to first and foremost win the confidence of his teammates.
Then he has to show he has the mental make-up to succeed.
He has the physical ability, the big question is can he read a defense, make the necessary adjustments and keep the team composed.
If he can , the rest will come together just fine.
If not , we will be looking to the draft for the QB that can.

Fuck me why 60% plus, did you not read the posts above showing that the top 10 QB rookie seasons showed that only 5 of them got 60% or more, Manning wasn't one of them (he also had more INT's than TD's) and the 2nd best was RG3 with 64% and we know how he turned out.

60+% with this team would mean he was a god in the making.

Because 60% completion is the benchmark for a capable QB, and they all come into the NFL fully developed and capable of doing that from day 1. Didn't you see Dak last year?:mad::mad:

That's your sarcasm alarm you can hear in the background...

I needed that last line btw, my fingers were already twitching to reply in a robust manner until I read the alarm warning :p

I believe it will be after his redshirting last season and supposedly classroom bound all year but if you want to be a pedantic arse knock yourself out, he hasn't thrown a damned ball in the NFL, which makes him rookie enough in 99.9% of people's eyes.

If you feel that he has to have the stats you quoted to be classed as a success then there is no helping you.

So, you're settling for mediocre at best?

Never thought I'd see the word mediocre associated with the Jets ...
