Hackenberg couldn't do it in college. He couldn't do it last year. Suddenly he'll develop accuracy out of nowhere? That just doesn't happen.
The thing that gives me hope is his intelligence. He has all the tools. Accuracy is an issue, but it can be improved. That's my problem with Petty. Love the kid, but he doesn't have it upstairs and likely never will. Hackenberg has a lot of what you would want for a prototype NFL QB. Just needs a couple things to click. At age 22, and the only thing to focus on in life being football, I think he can improve and will.
We're totally on the same page with this. He throws the deep seam exceptionally well. Within the "Adequate accuracy" landscape one way to attack this is to at least have 2-3 routes/throws that he CAN make with accuracy when the situation demands a completion. The intermediate to deep seam is an aspect he can lean on. Now one might say that defense's can flood the seams to take that away. Well therein lies the notion of building an offense to suit Hack's other skills. If Hack can at least throw to an area outside the hashes down the field & he's properly paired w. wingspan/catching radius types, if teams load up in the middle & leave 1-on-1 match-ups to the outside Hack can make them pay in a big big way. If your the defensive coordinator what do you do then? You're forced to play Cloud/Qtrs/2-3 deep zones the whole game. Hack may not be a needle threader but I'm willing to venture that he 's capable of burning the short-medium depths to death forcing the opposition to once again pick their poison.
Actually he DID do it in college his freshman year when the offense was fit to what he's good at. Additionally, how will accuracy NOT improve if he was never taught proper footwork & suddenly learns it & applies it?
ASJ could be that guy for sure. He was a force in college. The play action game will be legitimate with 2 receivers that can get down the field. Good thing we have a new coordinator that stresses the TE position.
I totally disagree. This team needed to be gutted. IMO the only situation where it wouldn't have needed to be gutted would be if Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady or Peyton Manning in their primes had just become the Jets' QB.
You're wasting your time and energy. Some posters minds are made up and sealed shut. Hack could win the starting job have a great season, and go on to have a great career for the Jets and he'd still suck in many posters eyes, and they'd be rooting for him to fail.
At this point I don't give a rats ass as to what Hack did or didnt do in College. Nor do I concern myself about what Mac was thinking when he selected him in the second round. That was then, let's focus on the now. We have not seen this kid at all yet so I want him to be given every chance. To be fair last year was wasted for the kid under the leadership of Gailey, where he basically got zero exposure, less than zero correction and a shit load of criticism from unnamed Jets sources. Frankly I don't care about the past. It sucked way deeper than Hack. I do care about the present, the fact that he is making an attempt to correct his shortcomings and give it everything he has. I do care that he is now better coached and at least so far is making strides in the right direction. I care greatly about the fact that he will have a chance to play, not overshadowed by a perennial back up with no future that was anointed the starter day one last year. Wish him nothing but the best I don't expect him to be a success over night, no I am not that stupid. But I expect progress and the ray of hope that says this kid has the potential to get us there. His talent and smarts coupled with better coaching will hopefully help him overcome his short comings and become a legitimate starter. Above all I care that the CS gives him every chance to prove himself. And the patience to understand we are dealing with a raw 23 year old, sharp and dedicated kid. I much look forward to see him and Petty, and for once this pre season has some real meaning for us. Nothing would give me more pleasure than for Hacks performance to shine enough to shove the random over throw right up the Jets beat writer's ass. I'm looking forward to some young football for a change. Win or loose we are starting with the right focus.
Develop Sanchez? LOL Rex wouldn't know how develop anything. He made it as difficult on Sanchez as he could, predicting SB Sanchez's rookie season. He made him so afraid of making a mistake that he couldn't help but screw up. Rex and Tanny got rid of his best WRs and allowed the OL to go to pot.
Haha. I realized this right after posting the reply. Still it drives me crazy that folks can't at least see a means for ascension. There have been plenty of good NFL Qb's who werent superstars or anything special in college. Yeah maybe they weren't taken in the 2nd round; But if the guy has the potential to BE a franchise QB, does it really matter where the team takes him from a fan perspective??
OJ Howard, what could have been. But Jordan leggette can make plays down field as can ASJ I would love to have a big arm qb throwing deep to big fast te's. That just destroys defensive game plans and lets you do whatever you want
me thinks there is a decent probability that, at some point next year, we are gonna have to start someone at QB who isn't even on the current roster. of course that would mean an injury or 2 and some seriously ineffective QB play.
58.9% completions is not accurate. College is drastically easier than the NFL. Should have been much higher. Well how do I argue against that kind of logic? Well developed rebuttal. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
