Let's hope it doesn't become familiar and we see the old FA vets getting signed during camp and going all in on the one last payday guys next year.
Good post. That's why I'm not ultimately torn up about it. I understand the reasons you give for why they are moving on, agree more or less with all of them, and moving on makes sense. As another poster said, the Jets need to get more like the Pats (or Steelers) and let players walk a season or two too early rather than too late. Then we can probably get something in return. I think the reason so many of us hate to see the very good/great veterans go is partly sentimental, but also because sadly, they're often still one of the best players we have. Hopefully, that will change. The sentimentality will probably always be there to some extent, but I look forward to the day where we look forward to seeing the exciting young players behind the vets on the depth charts take over and the vets be traded/released/retire.
I look forward to someday having depth on the depth chart. Lol. Poor drafting is why we have not been able to release the vets a year too soon. I agree. It's hard to see a vet let go, especially a good all around guy like Decker. I think it would be easier with a player in line to take their place , and seeing them released in a more fitting fashion.
I just hope that we really do have a plan going into next year with so many holes to fill. If some of these guys pan out then it might not be such a farfetched thought to be back in contention in a couple of years. In order for this to happen, Ardarius and Hansen need to prove to be capable starters at WR. Jordan Jenkins and Lee need to come into their own in the LB corps, right now I'm still assuming we have a hole at edge rusher...Mauldin is a role player at best and everyone knows it. The young Oline prospects need to soldify their positions (i.e. Winters, Wes, Shell). The young pieces in the secondary need to become the players some are assuming they are going to be (nothing in the NFL is a given). If some of these situations don't pan out in our favor it might be a very lengthy rebuild, as long or longer than many of the pundits are claiming it's going to be with our roster.
We realistically need about half the draft pics to pan out from last year , this year and the next 2 drafts. Some others to become good players, some for depth. This is not going to be a one year fix. With 2 more solid drafts, quality, young FAs, we should have a very competitive roster at a time where the league's better rosters are ageing out. It all depends on how well Mac drafts and if the newly assembled coaching staff can develop young talent. That is what Bowles and Mac need to be judged on going forward. Not wins and losses the next season or two.
Oh please, cut the crap! No details of rookie pay scale can possibly amount to cutting every team vet. What does it matter that nobody expected this and what does it have to do with the premise of this abortion of a thread? Why the fuck would you want anybody remaining from that FUBAR of a season we saw last year. WHF are you talking about, what vet "leadership"?!!! You mean like Mevis playing not to be touched, or Sheldon walking drunk most of the games, or Pryor falling 2 feet before opposing players? THAT's the leadership you crave, that "TORCH" you wanna pass? Are you interning for Daily Snooze, looking for material? GTFO
Since we already have Enunwa and Anderson as probable starters, and Peake has potential as well, I don't agree that we need both Hansen and A. Stewart to prove to be capable starters.
You mean it's not necessary to cut $60m+ in cap space for a rookie? How could it possibly be that obvious? None of these cuts have been surprising. We are rebuilding. We won't win it all this season. We won't win it all next season. If a player isn't going to be part of the rebuilding, they just waste cap space.
Yeah, you're right. Let's keep Decker and the status quo. Kinda like a broken treadmill, no? Remember, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every once in a while.
All of this ambiguity from you, I hate having to read between the lines, next time make your post a little more straightforward.
To be truthful and honest, i honestly have no idea on what the drafting of Jamal Adams has actually meant in regards to our overall roster cuts. I only know one thing; and it's that i literally can not wait to see this kid take the field in green and white. As with Leonard Williams of 2015 and when in terms of speaking dominant play; i truly feel and believe that Jamal Adams is a top 3 Player coming out. Right up there with and alongside the likes of both Myles Garrett & Leonard Fournette. Imo these are three badass SEC talents ready to feast on NFL Sunday's. Now that I'm really thinking about it. I really can't think of the last Jets Rookie in which I've been this excited about. Or the last Jets 1st rounder that I've been in as much awe over. Not since dating back to Keyshawn Johnson of 1996 to be exact. Jamal Adams has the types of physical attributes and athletic abilities to develop into an NFL generational Safety back there. Just look at his film on tape. Some of these plays he made @ LSU are next-level NFL ready. Those hits are bone crushing. His tackling is jaw dropping. And his play recognition coming out of college is second to none. As a defensive minded football fan I'm absolutely stoked.
