This might be totally out of left field, but do the recent and unexpected vet cuts have something to do with the current negotiations with our newest stud safety? I can easily see his agent putting a premium price on his services, especially right now with the current state of affairs with our roster. We were already tight with the cap before the draft, are these late offseason moves reflective of this situation? Making these cuts now does not make any sense, particularly Decker.
I know Chargers had problems with Bosa last year, I believe over a bonus. Not sure how much we were under exactly.
the only thing they can haggle over is offsets in case he is released before the contract expires. thats what bosa and s.d argued over. the cap number is pretty much locked in. so, no, these cuts have nothing to do with adams' negotiations. i'm guessing when they acquired davis they made up there mind to move on from harris and since they have seen decker is fully recovered they are ready to move on without an injury settlement.
It's a youth movement/rebuild for the future. It's not about this year. It's about fucking time too. Capiche?
The Chargers have a standard of refusing to pay the bonus up front. Bosa wanted to break that standard and the Chargers did not want to budge.
"unexpected vet cuts"? contract negotiation with a rookie? You just crawled from under which rock? Flew in from which planet? Learned to read how many days ago?
99% of the rookie hold outs you see are related to how much money is guaranteed if an injury happens. NONE of these cuts are even remotely related to a rookies contract. This is what an actual rebuild looks like. The tank job is just a bonus to hopefully put a Franchise QB under center if they can manage to get it right.
wouldn't call it "gaping" considering we have Enunwa & Robby who showed promise coming into this season from last year... Also we just drafted two guys that will get play time and we still have Charone Peake who showed potential last year. They all are fast and match Hack and Petty's big arm. Remember this year is all about showing promise moving forward.
I knew about the rookie pay scale, however there are some details about these rookie deals not everyone knows about. Additionally, nobody expected these cuts this late in the offseason. Before the draft or right after is typically when we have seen them in the past. Pryor wasn't a shock, but Decker and Harris...absolutely a shock. There needs to be some remnant of vet leadership to pass the torch. I love the youth movement, but how would having these two vets stunt any of that growth?
Exactly. Could not release Decker until yesterday's physcial and Harris refused to restructure, Davis came back in the Pryor trade, got to audition at OTAs and Harris became expendable.
Decker's release was expected. He had to pass his physical on the surgically repaired hip and shoulder. That happened yesterday, he was notified he would be released. Harris refused to restructure, Davis returned in the Pryor trade, Harris lost his leverage and roster spot. Every rep Decker or Harris would have taken in camp and every snap in a game is one less for the kids, the future. Keeping Decker makes no sense. He was not going to be here in 2018 or beyond, no need for him to build chemistry with Hack or Petty. He was never a #1 receiver. Remember 2014. If none of the 14 Recievers on the roster can become a#2 we have bigger concerns then any of us could imagine.
I don't think Adams contract has anything to do with the cuts. I think these cuts are purely for 2 reasons. Salary cap savings to bring into 2018 and/or Jets are really trying to get rid of any legitimate talent on the team in order to improve draft position with eyes on Darnold - Rosen.
I disagree regarding Decker. He would have been a big help to Hack and Petty as a receiver, and also perhaps in helping them understand where receivers should be on the field in certain plays. He also could have been a big help to all the young WRs. He's a professional, and would have been a great mentor and role model. He was also the closest thing to a #1 WR we had.
I understand the sentiment. I really like Decker but Morton is known for developing receivers, Decker is getting old and we really have no Idea where his health is at. Running in shorts without contact is one thing but the question is, how he will hold up once getting hit in games. We both agree we are not playing for this season but the future. I'd personally prefer to see the young receivers develop, for hack /Petty or the 2018 draft pick. Enunwa is the hope for a #1 wr. That was the same with Decker on the roster. The rebuild is going forward and unfortunately that means some players we all loved are going to be gone. Hopefully it pays off long term.
