True about Forté. I had posted that before, but had forgotten in the heat of the moment. I'm excited about our young WRs, but I think Decker's presence would have helped a lot. Mostly though, I just hate the way that it was done with the leaks that they were "going to" release him, not that they "had."
Do they get the added maneuverability with the Harris cut also? They could pick up several good younger players, in theory, with that money, no?
Yes, we can carry cap space into next year. I don't think depth is the main reason why Forté hasn't and won't be cut. It's a matter of cap space that TonyFtLaud reminded me of. It would cost the Jets more to cut him than to keep him. I think if they could have gained cap space by cutting him, he'd already be gone and they probably would have signed a FA RB. The Jets could still sign a camp cut RB, so I think it's pretty much the cap space issue.
Please name one team in the history of the nfl that has shed all its veteran talent and won the next year. It might not be a tank, but it sure is a complete and total rebuild. Rebuilds can take anywhere from 2-20 years to be successful. So lets not be too excited. The browns have been rebuilding for 20 years.
I haven't read the rules in a while but I believe the excess cap space has to be used within 3 years which is why Mac had a lot to use after the Idzik debacle when he was so far under the cap.
I agree completely, wonder if Decker may have leaked it as he was reportedly told if he couldn't be traded he would be released. Maybe he wants a say in where he goes. Could not blame him.
I don't pay attention to that stuff, but it looks like that money from Harris and Decker can be used to get some younger guys down the road. That's a better fit with the direction they're taking
I hope that it was Decker or his agents, and no one connected with the Jets. It still makes them look bad, however.
We actually came into the season over the cap so we can carry over the next 2 years then have to hit I believe 80% of the cap. Idzick was way under and the new CBA matured the year Mac came in so he had to spend big to get in compliance. It may not be easy to get overly excited about the team but it's the right move so far. Hopefully they stay the course, develop young talent and sign some young FAs next off-season and in 2019.
Shefter is pretty tight with alot of agents so it could be Decker's camp. If a legitimate contender wants to sign him, they could still offer a later round pick to guaranteed that they land him. Depends on how the league sees his value. May not be as high as us Fans value him.
Decker and the wife, gone - it's a lose/win in my book. Liked him way more than her. Always found her super annoying...
I guess we really need some people here to start to define what they mean by tanking. Are we talking about putting a lousy game plan out and not changing it as the game goes on, especially at the half? Are we talking about putting uninspired players on the field and leaving them there while they get overrun? Are we talking about leaving a guy in the game who can't help but throw the ball to the other team? Are we talking about not getting the team disciplined to the point that they actually show up on time? Nah, they'd never get Bowles to agree to that.
She was never annoying and in your face like some other wives. Its not like she was on the field with Eric Decker
The best part of the tank............. is having a literal toilet bowl worthy head coach So glad Mac is destroying the vet option - no one left for the bowl to go to- let's see if he can actually teach football to players Kinda obvious he can't so therefore.... After '17 flush him out!!!
I'm happy we went all out with the tank. No point in half assing it, all the older guys are pretty much gone now I actually don't mind having a season with literally zero expectations, it will be a nice change of pace instead of being left pissed off on multiple sundays
I will probably pay most attention to fantasy football and perhaps go to a game or two when tickets hit like $20 just to enjoy beers with friends.
When's the flood? Did Decker grow three inches since surgery? Please don't tell me this is a new trend in man ware, because I'm out.
I dont think any team is going to trade for a player coming off rotator cuff surgery and HIP surgery,,,,,,IMO he is more likely released than traded
Their not getting rid of veterans in their prime like the Patriots do, the Jets have let go of guys who are old, limited, breaking down, and expensive. All teams make these moves, they are getting younger and faster and talented, it's how it should be done. I don't know what the jets will be like this fall, but when fans say they are tanking, I don't agree with that idea that they got together as an organization an said let's just suck this year.
