And going into 2018 with as much of a cap carryover as possible. I like the young underdog team excitement too. This could be a fun season.

Not a good move. When breaking in young QB's you need a vet like Decker around

Unless they've already given up on Hack/Petty and it's full speed ahead towards Darnold.

It won't be fun. It will be a bitter pill to swallow.

And with the first pick of the 2018 NFL draft, the NY Jets select Sam Darnold, quarterback, USC!!!!

I don't believe they would have let him go if he was going to be healthy at training camp, two surgeries in different parts of the body for a person about to get hit for 20 to 25 weeks is not going to work out and the Jets realized it.

Completely agree. This is the first year I'm going into a season with zero expectations and just looking forward to seeing how many of these young players are the real deal. I'm sick of the band-aid approach a total rebuild is the right move...and it's the right year to do so it's a great QB class coming out.

As much as I wanted them to tank, there was no way they'd get Bowles to agree to it unless his job was safe this year. Either we get our QB of the future + Bowles or have the team try to win, pull out a few BS wins, fire Bowles, but still not get a top QB anyway.

Hate to see Decker go, hopefully he nets a draft pick but we know he is not a #1 Reciever and with 14 Recievers on the roster and 2-3 on the IR, it makes sense. Stewart, Hansen and Anderson will compete for Decker's spot behind Enunwa.
Let the kids develop and build chemistry with Hack /Petty and at least they have some experience if we do go QB with our first pick next year. Too bad Decker and Harris don't figure into the compensatory formula for 2019 ,but it is a full on rebuild and the FO can't spin it any other way now.
I just hope Decker doesn't end up in the AFC east but I see the Bills, Fins and Pat's all trying to sign him.

I know people are sad and i like decker but he isn't going to make this team good by himself. I'm happy to see what the young talent can do. We have anderson and enunwa starting. peake and marshall still plus 2 rookies we just drafted. it'll be interesting for sure. I'd say enunwa is guaranteed a starter position anderson likely the other. the rest is a toss up

Also looking at the moves made we are up to 22.5 mil in cap. minus about 5 mil for rookies we need to sign still and thats 17.5 million. Next year we have 66.5 million plus our carryover and likely a very high pick again and can build an offense. We could also target a FA WR this year but i doubt it. Next year though we could try and land a top one if it shows we need it. draft a QB in the 1st and get some WRs and o-line early in the draft as well We all knew this season is a bust but i like the way we are building towards the future. we've gone too long with these half ass rebuilds it's time for a full makeover

Another great pro falls by the wayside of this garbage heap of a team. Who is going to teach these kids the right way to do things?

Didn't see this coming honestly, but with Harris gone and the slew of cuts they made this offseason he was not gonna last past 2017. Decker and Harris deserve to compete on a team that is in the playoff hunt.

We have a good amount of depth at WR so I'm not going to label this move as one that hinders the team enormously, but I would have liked for Hack to have another veteran option to throw to.

What im grappling with more is whether these moves signify a belief level in the QB's.....as in, do the jets really want to offload as many players they can in order to suck to get Darnold, Rosen? Or is this truly just getting rid of old players for younger ones to get more opportunity?

If this is all about a youth movement as Macc indicated in his small presser with reporters, then starting McCown is nonsensical.

Sucks man...i liked him and he was effective when healthy. Hopefully they can figure out a trade.

Jets are going for 0-16 to make sure they can secure #1 overall

I'm all for a youth movement, what I'm not for is releasing valuable commodities for nothing in return. Guys like Harris and Decker should garner at least late round/conditional draft picks. Instead, we just let them go and get nothing in return. Part of this is the art of negotiation, which Mac has not really show yet in his time here. Other teams, like the Pats, find ways to get good compensation when moving their in house talent. What were ending up with is dead money, voids at key positions and a leadership deficit.

After the way Mac/Woody threw these vets under the bus, do you really think they're above doing the same thing to Bowles?

Only the Jets would let word get out they are either going to try to trade him or cut him...Macc must be a hell of a poker player.

This move is one I absolutely HATE...the guy is only 30 and could be productive for the next 3 years.
    DUMB DUMB DUMB.

I guess guys going into year 2 are considered leaders now.

Leave it to Cimini, who has been bitching that the Jets never go into full rebuild mode, calls this "tearing down for the sake of tearing down."

Never reading another article from him again.

It is what it is, bring on a top 2 pick next year.

I have zero problems with the move. All other high priced guys are gone, so what was the point of keeping him?

At this point just start Hack and either he proves himself or the Jets bottom out at 1-15. A top pick plus tons of cap space, could allow for a quick turn around.
