Bowles is addressing the media now on the Jets site. They asked Harris to take a pay cut and the discussions broke down. They couldn't come to an agreement. Bowles said he doesn't know how long the discussions have been ongoing.

Bowles really has a monotone voice, and is so soft spoken. Before they started asking him questions, he looked so weak and wimpy at the podium. I'll give him credit that he keeps saying that they are on the same page and the way he answered the questions, although it sounds like it was Mac's idea rather than his. There may be something to what a poster said about Mac now being in charge.

Bowles was asked about the Lee incident. He said that he would not discipline Lee. That it was an argument with his girlfriend. He said that he spoke with about 10 different people regarding the incident.

This is an intriguing hypothesis and makes a helluva lot of sense given our roster!!

Decker getting cut would save us $7.25m against the cap with only $1.5m in dead money.
Sheldon getting cut would save us $0 against the cap and almost $8.1m against the cap in dead money.

One of those makes sense. The second one won't happen.

As far as Harris getting the boot, I'm not surprised. It's a necessary part of the youth movement. Harris is getting older and even slower. The only thing that saved him all these years was being an absurdly good tackler. But that's a lot of cap money to save up for when the team becomes competitive again and needs a couple FAs to make a push. We have ~$62.3m in cap space next year now (assuming we don't spend more).

Thats's football. General Managers manage the roster and the salary cap. Coaches coach the team that the GM provides.

I'm sure Bowles has his input, and if the team was stacked and making a playoff run Bowles would probably get his way. But in a complete team transition where cap is critical to future success GM makes the final decision. IE Jeremy Maclin

What about Mclendon at DT with Cat and Mo/Shel on the ends?

Jenkins, Mauld, and Lee at LB. Admittedly MLB could use an upgrade or maybe Zo thrives.

Makes a bunch of sense to free up Lee a bit.

    I like it.

The Jets will have fun trying to attract any decent player with the way they have treated their vets this off season.

That's what I was thinking. You have a lot of DLine depth. You have three young starting LBs and David Harris, who if not cut now would probably be cut next year. The fact is that a lot of the jets d-line men have been playing a lot of one-gap anyway, using three and five technique. They also have trouble generating pressure off the edge consistently - a 4-3 might make a lot of sense for this team. If you're going to be playing Richardson as an LB, then it makes more sense to switch to a 4-3 and play him as a lineman. You can still use him on zone-blitzes anyway.

That's a lot of beef up-front. A lot of power, but not much speed on the outside. I don't think Mo is a true end rusher in a 4 man front, you can throw him out there at times, but you don't want the majority of his snaps being on the outside. Same with Sheldon.

It will be tough to get the right players on the field at the same time.

Why wouldn't you put Lee at ILB, Jenkins at SAM and Mauldin at Weakside? I think they really want to keep Lee and his speed in the middle of the field.

Bingo. You can have all the cap space in the world, and there are some guys who won't care they'll just take top $, but a lot of GOOD players will shy away from an organization that does crap like this to someone who gave their all for 10 years.

A sickening move. Would've been a lot easier to handle back in March. Doing it on June 6 is sad and pathetic, just like the organization has been since 2011.

Lee Carter and DeMario is a pretty speedy group of LB's. Very above average collectively in the speed department

Lee never really played inside linebacker in a base 4-3 defense, he played weakside. Perhaps on nickel packages, yes you can have Lee inside to roam around. 4-3 ILB main responsibility is to stop the run, not exactly what Lee was brought in to do. The inside linebacker is meant to be the biggest and strongest out of the 3 linebackers in a 4-3 defense.

A 3-4 outside linebacker translates to a 4-3 defensive end. Jenkins / Maudlin would move to defensive ends. The 3-4 inside linebacker normally shifts to a weak-side or SAM linebacker in a 4-3.

Speed is excellent on the field no doubt, but tackling and shedding blocks could take a step back. I hope Lee really steps up this year.

Sad day. To think how this organization has failed since we totally hit on our 1st 2 picks in the 2006 + 2007 drafts, ----- and completely whiffed on everything since then. COMPLETELY whiffed. Go back & look. I dare you.

You could very well consider D'Brick, Mangold, Harris and Revis in the all-time great JETS. And over the next 9-10yrs we couldnt draft anything other than Mo Wilkerson, Leonard Williams & Sheldon Richardson. What a f--king disgrace.

Funny thing - that all seems to become irrelevant when a stack of cash is plonked on the table.

Anyway, I don't see what the Jets have done that's so bad.
