Hopefully, this will fire up Morton, the QB Coach (I'm drawing a blank), Petty and Hack and make them work even harder to prove the critics wrong.
Even though we are cellar dwellers and pose no threat to the Patriots we are obviously still in the heads of Boston fans and beat writers. I mean, why even give us a 2nd thought... Stay classy Boston.
Good Lord, I was hoping for a fun season with a bunch of young players trying to make a difference. Sounds like People are viewing this team as a laughing stock destined for zero wins. Not a very credible source reporting but non the less.
Is this post the offseason version of a moral victory? It sure reads like it. Instead of ignoring this garbage, some whiny fool posts an article about it and people cry about it, but only after clicking it. Fucking victim complex. This team sucks. Come to terms with that, because arguing against a writer who is basically making money when you click his article makes YOU look stupid, not him.
To each our own but i personally have some excitement regarding Hackenberg as a QB prospect. Only (playing) time will tell all, but he's a prospect that i can get behind. Second year player drafted out of Penn State during the 2nd round. He's young with youth at the age of only 22. He's got great size at 6'4/228 lbs. An alive throwing arm. Strong work ethic etc, etc. From what I've heard from anyone who's been around this kid, is that he's a brain at the QB position. Has a high I.Q of the X's and O's aspect of the game with an ability to learn a playbook, grasp an offense and absorb information. Everyone has raved of his work ethic on and off the field as well. To me. These are all exciting signs when looking to scout a kid QB. All players are different but there have also been some really good to great 2nd & 3rd round QB's in which have been drafted throughout the history of this game. Most of them had great size with a strong arm along with smarts upstairs and a serious work ethic. All traits of a young Hackenberg. I'm sorry but i can not just quit on a prospect like this; before at least first seeing what he's made up of. On the football field (not through the media). Let's not forget that after his Freshman season under Bill O'Brien (with Allen Robinson as his #1 WR on the outside), Hackenberg himself was hands down considered as being the Nation's #1 QB prospect while @ PSU (just as Sam Darnold is now being considered as of today after his freshman season @ USC). Imo there is a lot to like about a kid who features great size, big arm strength, strong work ethic along with smarts upstairs. He's no Russell Wilson but he's pretty athletic for a player of his his size too (not a standing statue). I like Hack as a prospect & pretty excited to see him take the field alongside of younger players such as Quincy Enunwa and Robby Anderson. Rookie prospects in Stewart and Leggett out of Alabama & Clemson. Or with two kids from last year in Peake out of Clemson and Jalin Marshall out of Ohio State. Can't forget about 2 veterans in Eric Decker and a pass catching HB out of the backfiekd in Matt Forte neither. A back like Powell looking to emerge or a TE in ASJ who's looking to redeem his career. These are the types of players i can't wait to see the kid QB take the field with.
First and foremost I'm a longtime FSU fan so believe me when i say that i wanted #4 Dalvin Cook (for our offense) more than anyone could have ever imagined come the 2nd round. I almost cried when we passed up on Cook, only to see the Vikings pull the trigger two picks later. But then i had to think reality over a HB. We all seen (first hand) just how bad our secondary really was last year. It was ugly. Our pass defense was horrid. Which is why #24 Darrelle Revis is no longer a Jet and still a current Free Agent. Yes. It was that bad. You don't have to like the pick but Marcus Maye is another SEC kid out of Florida who has speed, range, ball hawking traits and also plays as physical as they come. Never takes a play off. Smart. Has a motor. Vocal leader. Comes from the SEC. Great tackler (graded out as the NCAA's #1 tackler) and was the heart & soul of that Florida Gators defense. He was sitting there for us in round two and could end up being a great draft selection while next to Adams. Jamal Adams & Marcus Maye were almost teamates with LSU. Until Maye ended up selecting Florida over LSU. Adams and Maye would have been a dynamic duo at Safety. Now we'll have a chance to see how they look & develop in Green & White. In regards to our GM drafting DB's? It was a must. There was literally no way around it. Adams falling into our laps started off our draft. In a major way. Kid looks to be a generational type of player back there. Adams, like Leonard Williams... was a MUST sitting there @ #6. Who would you have personally drafted over Jamal Adams there @ 6th overall? Or are you only complaining about our 2nd round pick of 2017? Imo if you're not in love with the drafting of an SEC kid of LSU in Jamal Adams... well then i think you're crazy. He'll be to our Secondary what Leonard Williams is to our Defensive-Front. Which is an absolute animal out there on the football field. Speaking of the promise land. You are not reaching the promise land in today's NFL if you aren't able to compete against the pass. That is fact and after watching 2016's dreadful secondary I'm actually excited just knowing that we drafted two SEC beast Safeties in Adams & Maye out of LSU & Florida during rounds 1 & 2. ■ During his 1st draft, he drafted 0 DB's. Although he did steal a beast defensive lineman in Leonard Williams during round 1 before taking a gamble on a (could have been) big play WR out of Ohio State in Devin Smith come round #2. During round 3 he went looking for an outside pass rush in Lorenzo Mauldin out of Louisville. During round 4 he drafted a QB prospect out of Baylor in Bryce Petty. He then ended his draft by selecting two kids to compete within the trenches in Jarvis Harrison (G) and Deon Simon (NT) with our 5th & 7th rounders. ■ During his 2nd draft of 2016 (last year) he only selected 1 DB (Juston Burris, CB) out of NC State during the 4th round. Last years 1st rounder was an IMLB out of Ohio State in Darron Lee. Who led our team in tackles as a rookie MLB before getting banged up. He then went back and double dipped on another QB. This time during the 2nd round in 6'4 Christian Hackenberg out of Penn State. During the 3rd round (just like in 2015 with Mauldin) Maccagnan went OLB looking for an edge setting pass rusher out of the SEC in Jordan Jenkins out of Georgia. He then went back to the trenches come round 5 with an offensive tackle with great size (6'6/325) in Brandon Shell out of South Carolina; another SEC kid. He ended our draft with two 7th rounders. A punter in Lac Edwards and a WR prospect out of Clemson (who i love) in Charone Peake. Why mock Maccagnan for drafting 4 secondary players here in 2017. As if that's all he's looking to draft? Yes. This year. During 2017's draft Maccagnan pulled the trigger on two talented Safeties out of the fierce SEC in Adams (LSU) and Maye (FL) along with two CB's in Clark & Jones (Michigan & Mississippi) with his final two picks (both 6th rounders). But do you not understand why Maccagnan went secondary heavy throughout this years draft class though? Because most of us do. And it's because Bowles' pass defense only rated and ranked... ● 17th in passing yards allowed. ● 23rd in average yards per pass attempt. ● 25th in pass TD's allowed through the air. ● 28th with a long allowed of 84 yards. ● 29th in defensive interceptions forced. ● 30th in opposing QB Rating against. Maybe. Just maybe. That's why our GM went Adams & Maye 1 & 2? How could Macc ignore our secondary during this years draft? Please. Tell me. Do you not see those #'s posted above? Outside of Fitzpatrick having a Shitztragic type of season @ QB, our secondary was the weakest unit on our entire team last year. No? Always keep in mind that Todd Bowles, as a coach, does indeed need his types of players within his secondary in order to lead and coach a strong defense (see Arizona). Not only that but our pass coverage was so bad last year, to the point where we could not generate any types of coverage sacks ala 29th in defensive sacks. Here in 2017 he also drafted three pass catching weapons back-to-back-to-back during the 3rd, 4th & 5th rounds out of Alabama, Cal & Clemson in ArDarius Stewart (WR, 3rd round), Chad Hansen (WR, 4th round) and Jordan Leggett (TE, 5th round). Then with our 2nd 5th rounder he went back to the trenches with a D-Lineman out of a small school out of GA. Also took Elijah McGuire, RB, out of Louisiana-Lafayette during the 1st of our three 6th rounders. No mention of any of this while mocking our GM's drafting pattern though, right? But yea. Right. Maccagnan only believes in drafting Secondary DB's in order to compete. I just strongly disagreed. To each our own but please; lets not sit here and act as if Maccagnan only looks to draft secondary players (as your post above seems to indicate). With your post above you're either acting, over exaggerating or simply not following the draft closely (all because of rounds one and two of 2017) because you couldn't be further from the truth when mentioning Macc as a talent evaluator, scout, GM and/or pattern of history while looking to attack the draft. Throughout 3 drafts he's selected 5 DB's. 3 of those DB's were late rounders (a 4th and two 6th rounders). He's also drafted 1 HB, 1 TE, 1 punter, 2 QB's, 2 O-Lineman, 3 D-Lineman, 3 LB's and 4 WR's with Robby Anderson being 5 WR's; although undrafted.
Nah just a fact , that's all it is . It's obvious this team , on paper, sux but that's why they play the game right ? We have no idea how Hack or Petty are going to look under center , right ? I mean if we knew at the start of every season what the outcome was going to be before a game was played then why not give the Pats the trophy in September and be done with it ? Everything is speculation and rumor about Hack , yet no one has seen him play a down ...there is no basis for these "unnamed scouts talking off the record". I'm guessing the Russians are behind it . This. Especially when you consider the basis of the article is from some NJ based "columnist" with a questionable past: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Freeman_(columnist) In January 2004, Freeman resigned before starting a columnist job at The Indianapolis Star after he was discovered lying about his education, specifically falsely claiming a college degree. Freeman wants to be the next Manish, NESN is trolling by referencing it, and people are buying it. Click bait.
It seems pretty clear that It's either a Patriots scout or another Afc East team. Cimini's source could very well be the same guy the Boston amateur cited. What qualified scout judges an opposing young QB being redshirted based on warm up throws pre game; And then feels the need to throw around anonymous insults to media sources??
Overall, an excellent post. I have a couple of points, however. I loved the Adams pick. While I can understand the Maye pick, and hope to wind up loving it, there were other ways that Mac could have addressed our pass defense. A strong point can be made that the most effective way to shut down an opponent's passing attack is through a strong pass rush. Instead of Maye, Mac could have taken Tyus Bowser. Now I don't know all that much about Bowser, and he could have character/off-field issues, or wind up being a bust, but he could have possibly had a bigger impact on our pass D than Maye. Another point is that the CB position was one of our biggest question marks, and Mac ignored it until late. Instead of Maye, he could have taken Sidney Jones or Quincy Wilson. Another way he could have sought to address pass defense was in the 3rd round. Instead of trading down and taking ArDarius Stewart, he could have stayed put and taken Jordan Willis, another excellent pass-rushing OLB prospect. Also, instead of trading our 3rd round compensatory pick, he could have stayed put and had two more chances at upgrading the OLB position (pass rush) by taking either Vince Biegel or Carl Lawson. My other point is with reference to Todd Bowles. I'm sick of the Jets' HC's being former DCs who have to have a specific type of DB in order for their defenses to work. IMO we'd be much better off having a DC who was flexible and creative and could design a defense that would take advantage of the players one already had and that could be flexible and succeed.
Its 100% true.....I really want to see Hackenberg start in the preseason. No one knows what we have in this guy and Mac is protecting his own neck by not letting anyone find out .If he really is that bad then we will likely not get to see him have a fair chance at developing.
You should be outraged at the jets for doing absolutely nothing to improve their qb position. Even if you have the opinion that we are tanking for a year to get a better draft pick (which i do) that is a disgrace in its own right. A smart move but somewhat shameful. And here you are angry about an article that points out how enept we are that our front office is willing to flush a year down the toilet before it even starts. Instead of being angry at the front office for being willing to flush a whole year down the toilet for a better draft pick. The best way to shut up the patriots is to win not cry about mean articles written by a boston news outlet for patriots fans. Have you ever seen the new york post headlines? Yeah here in ny we never make fun of the patriots. Lol
Frankly, I couldn't make much sense in clicking anything related to the Cheatriots (TM). So - bear with me. I have no idea what kind of garbage is in that link. [I couldn't bother to look it up after all.] And [DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS] should be the standard advice for this fan base. Lurking around Cheatriots-related forums and web sites is like asking for trouble. Hell, it's not even like these Cheaters are giving anything worthy of reading anyway.
I keep hearing that Mac stole the best d lineman in Leonard Williams 6th overall in the 2016 draft.I really hope that we get to see that pay off this year .
Is there an official ignore button on this site ? I am genuinely sick to the back teeth of this wumming wanker. edit, yup found it but it still shows they have posted unfortunately but at least you can not see the drivel they post.
Well one thing is for sure, Leonard Williams is off to a great start to his NFL career. • As a rookie he started 15 games, recorded 63 tackles/3 sacks and was selected to the NFL's All-Rookie team. • As a 2nd year kid he started all 16 games, recorded 68 tackles/7sacks, forced 2 fumbles and was selected to NFL's Pro-Bowl team. He's well on his way to emerging into an All-Pro for many of years to come. And what the fk do you mean by... "i keep hearing"? What? You haven't seen for yourself? He's one of only 13 kids to make the Pro-Bowl team from 2015's draft class and there were over 255+ kids drafted. You "keep hearing"? O.k, well then which D-Lineman should Maccagnan have drafted outside of Leonard Williams? You shouldn't of had to "hear" anything. You should've been paying attention and seen for yourself. He WAS and IS the best D-Lineman selected during 2015's NFL draft and it's not up for debate neither.
With all due respect why let some article with unnamed sources get anyone upset. The team QB situation is not great unless the light goes on, games slows down and the person - whomever that is - gets it together ; otherwise, the O will be dysfunctional. My hope is that the team is competitive and gets better each week... if not TB is gone and we restart again, ugh!
It was not sought out..believe me. It was appearing on the Jets google feed as an associated press article & the headline suggested that it was new information from an inside source. That's the main reason for the OT. Any hint of "Cheatriots(TM)" & I don't think any Jet fan is clicking on it.
Yea, it's a cheap shot. Yea, is a "Bahsten" thing. ESPN does the same shit, I don't even watch it anymore because of it. Listen, I'm a till-I-die Jets fan, but at the end of the day, the Jets bring this shit on themselves. I know that will really piss some of you guys off, but it's true.
