BIG guy, strong as an ox, eh? Terrific rookie year but never materialized into the kind of player the Jets thought they were getting. Still to this day the highest drafted player out of Indiana.
He was before my time, but in Googling him, I did note that he and Matt Millen must have had the same mustache guy.
I was young so I dont really have a play or plays that stand out. I remember him being a decent player but not as good as advertised when he was drafted so early . He played on some bad teams .
I remember him. Had a big 4th quarter sack of Griese on a Monday night game in Miami that the jets almost came back and won.
I remember the shear size of the guy. He was huge by 70's standards. But his play never matched his size or people expectations of him.
Barzo! Number 77. A lot of enthusiasm when he got signed, being big and quick for his day. Then, other than an all too occasional big play, he just disappeared into the green of the field. Why do you ask?
I remember this guy at nose tackle being a immovable wall and announcers going crazy as to how quick he was with moves shooting gaps. Charley Jones thought the Jets had a franchise player, unfortunately after the initial hype he just stopped being dominant and then became a liability. Due to the lack of investigative reporting back then I don't remember any news as to why he fell off a cliff.
Another particularly lackluster draft class for the Jets ... https://books.google.ca/books?id=eN...AQgoMAE#v=onepage&q=Carl Barzilauskas&f=false
Another Jet draft blunder. They passed on John Dutton to take him. Dutton went on to have an all-pro career with the colts Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
