Look at what the Yankees are doing the with young players. It's at the very least going to be a stress free year.
The least fun kind of season is 4-7 wins without ever being anywhere near contention and also never being within 5 picks of the #1. So, yes, I think this can be a fun season. We just need to be in shooting distance of the #1 and at least we'll have something to root for as the season nears the end, instead of a hopeless weak season that will put us on the 6 pick again in a 3 QB draft all gone by the 3.
watching McClown play QB is not going to be "fun." the second half of the year if they finally bench him because they are out of contention by Nov 1, will be interesting. Still not fun but I'll take interesting
We'd have said the same thing about Fitzpatrick in 2015 except we were all more petrified of having to deal with Geno under center all year. People actually disliked the Fitzpatrick pickup because it meant we'd have nobody better than that playing QB for us in 2015. Then the punch happened and Fitzpatrick actually played well for much of the year until he broke down at the end in Buffalo.
If he can get the Jets out to 0-4 McCown will have earned his seat on the bench and Hackenberg can take over to do the man's job of losing 10 or 11 more games.
I'm looking forward to watching the kids play, and the bar is really low as far as wins and losses. Just show me effort, competitiveness, and improvement week to week.
The Jets ceiling this season will be set by Christian Hackenberg. Either we've hoodwinked the entire NFL and all it's fans and have a franchise QB silently waiting in the shadows for his turn, or we're in for a long season as we get set to draft a new QB next year. I agree with Jethro. I have zero expectations of this team doing anything. Assuming the young guys are alright and go out there and ball out, it could be pretty fun to watch. Hack is the real X factor, if he can come out swinging i still expect to go 4-12 at best but it'll be fun as hell to watch and provide a stable base to build a future.
I don't understand the obsession with getting the #1 overall pick in the draft. These are the Jets-- they'll only get the #1 overall pick when the best overall player by far is a Center or a Guard. Even then, the won't pick the guy, they'll end up reaching for the next Jeff George or Jamarcus Russell. If the Jets tank, they'll get a very Jets-worthy #1, I guarantee it.
I guess there is a lot of 2 in sports fans and maybe some hardcore support partake in number 1 also lol masochist ˈmasəkɪst/ noun plural noun: masochists 1. a person who derives sexual gratification from their own pain or humiliation. "the roles of masochist and mistress" 2.(in general use) a person who enjoys an activity that appears to be painful or tedious. "what kind of masochist would take part in such an experiment?"
Looking forward to this season more than the last 2. Reason is that at least I know it's not built on false hope. The Jets are finally, FINALLY doing a multi-year rebuild the way it should be done. They have the chance to a be a good team in a couple yrs if they can just hit on a good young QB. I am excited to hear that next year's Draft is supposed to be full of talented QB's. Of course, a lot can change in the next year but the odds of having a really good QB option sitting there when the Jets pick is pretty high.
