I say give Michigan the rematch. Look at the other teams contending for the #2 in the BCS: USC: The PAC 10 doesn't compare to the Big 10, and Oregon State is a pretty weak loss. Notre Dame: Got absolutely wiped out by Michigan, there's no way you can make a case for them to play over the Wolverines in the title game. Arkansas: You can't make a case for Arkansas over USC, so if you can't make a case for USC over Michigan how can you tout the Razorbacks for the National Title? Rutgers: Has a surprisingly good case if they beat WVU, but their schedule doesn't stand up to Michigan's even with wins over Louisville and West Virginia. The only team that I think deserves a chance to play for the National Championship over Michigan is Florida (and Ohio State, obviously.) The Gators have survived in the SEC and have their only loss to a high quality team. Your final record should be what counts, not when you lose your games. If Michigan had lost to Ohio State in the 3rd game of the season instead of the last this wouldn't even be up for debate. Let them play again.
I say give it to Florida or USC, (or only if they really impress, Notre Dame) provided they win out. Michigan got their chance and lost. Next.
College football sucks, with that said if Rutgers wins out they should be playing for the national championship..
Doesn't something deserve to be said for the fact that Michigan's only loss is to the #1 team in the country, while USC lost to unranked Oregon State?
Yeah, but doesn't it say something that Ohio State already beat Michigan, proving that they're the better team?
If Michigan had lost to Ohio St 42-39 week 1 of the season people would be clamoring for them to get another shot at them. The BCS system is awful enough fans don't need to be lobbying for late season losses to spell the end of national title hopes. Please none of the "dur dur this way it's like a playoff system!" argument either. Especially when you have ND vs Army the same week.
They are probably the two best teams in college football so why not. I agree with I believe KH who said it shouldn't be worse to lose at the end of the season than it is to lose in the beginning. I hate college footballs system so the only thing I root for is chaos at the end. It is looking like this year will be another bad one for the BCS with no clear championship game no matter who plays in the so called national championship game..
Party is going great in Columbus. Its been an hour now and the town is still in one piece. Michigan has nothing to be ashamed of. They simply ran out of playing time. This was the best college game I've seen this year so far. Kinda makes the whole BCS championship game anti climatic for Buckeye fans.
I hope California beats Southern California. I don't want to see a Michigan-Ohio State rematch. A rematch would probably net WVU an at-large BCS bid, so I would like it from that standpoint. That said, I don't like the idea of a rematch. I don't see how it is fair to Ohio State. But when is college football ever fair?
A rematch wouldn't be bad if USC doesn't win out. Michigan went into Ohio and lost by 3 to the #1 team in the nation. So they get penalized for losing late? They proved they are the 2 best teams in the country, and if USC doesn't win out, Michigan should get another shot.
I think that even if Southern Cal wins out, Florida is more deserving of a National Title bid. Auburn > Oregon St. SEC > Pac 10
If their should ever be a rematch this should be it if their evr was i didnt see the game had to work but from what i saw from the highlights they need to play again. No game would be as close as this one would be USC and Notre Dame would get blown out be either of these teams.Hopefully USC and Florida dont win out cause they wouldnt stand a chance.
I thought the game was somewhat entertaining but it was not a well played game. Neither team played defense, there were alot of penalties and turnovers. After OSU took a 14-7 lead they were in control the rest of the way w/ a double digit lead most of the game. It wasn't like a back and forth duel and Mich never had the ball w/ a chance to tie or win in the last few mins.
