1. Let Hackenberg go out there and let our OL finish the job they started at Penn State 2. Get First Overall Draft Pick and take Sam Darnold 3. Profit??
I'll give our GM the benefit of the doubt for now, but the O-Line related move that gave me pause during the draft, was when we traded down in the 3rd round with the Vikings and they used our former pick to select Elflein. I really thought he would have been a great potential Mangold replacement.
Weak draft class for Oline and only so many picks. Bottom of the line is the Jets improved the team the past 3 days. Jets are in full rebuild mode and the defense was closer and easier to fix then the offense with not having a proven qb. Maybe next year the free agency and draft class is filled with o lineman. We weren't going to be able to fix the whole team in one offseason. I can also see us goingpass rusher high next season if we don't go qb. We have a very young team that will be fun to watch develop regardless what our record will be. The offensive line is terrible just need Beechum to be a good player at LT and hopefully Shell can continue on his play from the last few games and be our RT. We are set at Guard and Wesley Johnson is decent not great but he gets the job done. We also need to see what we have in Petty and especially Hack before we bring in another project qb. Only so many snaps in training camp and have 4 qbs would only hamper their progression. You don't draft a qb in the 2nd round and not at least give him a chance to succeed.
I am very confident that Maccagnan knows what he's doing. He is hedging his bets with redundant picks. He could have went more with need, but who knows if those picks would have panned out? We are going to be pleasantly surprised with the improvements on defense and special teams this year. We can all out on offense in next year's draft.
Could we stop with the we need to see what we have with petty and hack mularkey? We know they're not any good! Petty stinks why don't we see what we've got with Matt Simms for gods sake
I'd like to think the plan is to address the OLine in 2018 via FA. 2017 pretty much is a rebuilding year and the FO chose to rebuild the defense first. The upside is that no one should expect much from the offense and whomever survives this upcoming trial by ordeal at Qb behind this oline will have certainly earned their spot. Kinda explains the McClown signing now doesn't it.. They had no intention of upgrading the Oline thru the draft and if a Qb is gonna get his ass handed to him all season, might as well be the rental. There was no reason why Petty took the punishment he did last season behind that oline when they had Fitz the Cat stealing his $12m able to play. If they're smart, they'll play McClown and let him get smashed weekly while Hack and Petty kick back on the sidelines and get "mentored" another year.
Hopefully Mangold is brought back into the fold. I'd give him a low price but guaranteed contract. Something like 3 years $10m. He should be a career Jet. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
We took Hack in the second round. He doesn't deserve a shot? For fuck sakes a qb can't grow if you give him one damn season. It's called growing, it's called learning, it's called progression. If you were the gm after Peyton's or elis rookie season you would have got rid of them. Hack hasn't even played an NFL regular season snap yet and you know he sucks? You got a fucking crystal ball? You don't take a qb or any other player in the second round to never let him have a chance to play
Who knows if these picks will pan out? BPA only works when the GM can actually identify the BPA. If he can't, he might as well go with need because any pick he makes is a coin flip.
A shot at what? Throwing 30 interceptions ? It was a wasted pick to take him in the 2nd apparently every gm knew this but ours. He was bad at penn st and now magically he's gonna be Manning? Cmon man
You might want to ask yourself why good teams like pit, GB & the Pats picked OL in the 6th round, den & the Saints in the first round, the Panthers & 3 other teams in the 2nd round, the Pats & sd in the 3rd, the ravens, raiders & colts in the 4th round....you might also want to ask why Petty got crushed last year and why Jets qb's keep turning into jittery crap.... Ron
there was not a single OL in this draft that could help us...lets take another safety and trust Magic Mac
NEver said he was going to be manning. He probably will Ben no good but you don't truly know that till he's given a legit shot. We screwed up Genos development by not sitting him a couple seasons for him to develop on the bench. Project qbs aren't meant to step on the field right away. It's rare for them to work at a position that isn't rare to begin with. What qb in this years draft did you want to take that would have stepped on the field and been good immediately?
Sounds like the Jets liked what they had in house on the offensive line. You may disagree but it's evident by their draft strategy. Meanwhile they grabbed two WR's basically because the WR who got suspended (Jalin?), Brandon Marshall departure, Devin smith ACL tear, and Decker possibly not making this team. So you are left with Enuwma, Decker?, Anderson, Peake...who are considered locks for the team.
We resigned two olineman in free agency and signed a starting left tackle. It's not like we did nothing to the oline. We also got undrafted free agents. Who are just like taking a guy late in the draft.
i believe mel kiper said that on air back in 88 or 89 when the jets drafted jeff lageman. "its obvious the jets do not know what the draft is all about" LOL
we re-signed two JAGS and the starting left tackle we picked up got jettisoned by the awesome Jacksonville Jaguars. I'm sorry but I just don't know how the offense will get more than 7 points a game next year.
